He was educated in the Catholic and Baltimore City Schools where he played baseball and football. Butch graduated from Baltimore City College HS. He was always a hard worker. At 16 years old, he purchased a 61 Ford Falcon, the first of many cars. Butch was always working on, building, or racing cars. As a result, he developed an expansive knowledge of cars. It was a during a layoff at GE that Butch turned his talent into a lifelong career as a mechanic. Other mechanics often turned to him with repair issues they were unable to solve. His customers were like family. His passion for cars went beyond making money. Butch went out of his way to help and care for others. As a result, he touched many lives and forged a multitude of friendships. Butch will always be unforgettable. Now brother, go in peace to freer air and a gentler climate. It is time to rest a while from work gladly done. Butch is survived by sons Courtney and Terrell Smith, sister Donna Washington, brother Ronald Smith, six grandchildren Jaren, Kenley, Kendrick, Ivan, Dillion, Kaia, niece Rhonda Wright, great niece Ava Wright, great nephew Malakai Wright, aunt Gwen Smith of Ocala Fl, uncles Norman Brodnax of Chesapeake VA and Donald Smith, a host of cousins, and a multitude of friends.

Always stylish Charmain lived an extraordinary life everywhere she called home from Alabama to New York.  A self-proclaimed photographer, Charmain always volunteered to commemorate the RPA Family Reunion and felt at ease in front and behind the camera.  She loved her family and enjoyed singing karaoke, dancing and traveling.  She was loved and enjoyed attending shows and oldies evens at the local VFW and Post Social Clubs.

She leaves to mourn: her Sister: Edie Rhodes; Brothers: Timothy (Aretha), Vince, Alex, and Brian; Aunts: Athrida, Gloria, and Sarah; Uncle: Robert T.; Niece: Erica; Nephews: Celso and Darious; Great Nephew: Izayah; Extended family member: Colleen, and a host of family and friends.  Preceding her in death was her sister, Tanga.

Obituary Preview: CHARLIE WESLEY BOYD was the third son born to the late John Wesley Boyd and Nora Lee Houston Boyd in Randolph County, Alabama on July 14, 1938. He entered into eternal rest on October 31, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Preceding him in death is his beautiful wife, Montray, a beloved son and grandson, Shawn Wesley and Shawn Phillip Moody, Jr., two (2) brothers Christopher C. Boyd and George E. Boyd, along with his parents are rejoicing in their reunion.

Charlie Wesley Boyd attended schools in Alabama. He played sports such as basketball and football. He went to night school in the 1980’s for air conditioning and refrigeration and received a certificate.

He joined Shiloh Baptist Church at the age of 13 in Alabama. After joining church, be became secretary of the Sunday School. Upon moving to Maryland, he joined Sweet Hope Freewill Baptist Church and became a lifetime member in March 1958.

Soon after moving to Baltimore and joining Sweet Hope Free Will Baptist Church, he met the love of his life, the late Montray Aldrich; he’d say, “Woman With The Pretty Legs.” They were married on April 28, 1962. From this union three children were born, Tamara, Shawn and Nicole. They were together fifty-one and a half (51 ½) years.

While a member of Sweet Hope Free Will Baptist Church, he was a member of the Usher Board, #2 Choir (1973-1974), he was asked to be a Deacon (ordained in 1975). Later years, he taught Junior Sunday School Class, Adult Sunday School Class and was Treasurer for many years.

Charlie “Charles” has had so many jobs, to name all of them, he drove cabs, worked at American Standard, Crown Cork and Seal and the Maryland Cup Company, until he created the Boyd Transportation, which he ran for twenty (20) years. He retired in 2006.

He loved to converse with anyone about the Bible and what God has done for him. He would talk anywhere about God. He was a very funny, giving and humble man who loved teaching God’s word. He definitely was a prayer warrior. He could and would pray for anyone at a drop of a dime. He also liked to talk about his business and his story of everything that has helped him to get to the top to become very successful.

Those who will forever cherish his fond memories are: Two (2) loving daughters, Tamara J. Boyd Moody and Nicole Boyd; two (2) grandchildren Jeanenne N. Moody, and Shawn P. Moody, Sr. (Donna); one (1) great granddaughter, Sha’Miya M. Moody; two (2) brothers, Jessie L. Boyd (Lois) and Matthew Boyd (Gloria;) sisters-in-law, Ann Boyd, Marsha Booker and Syree Anderson; Nieces, Betty Jean Green, Azalee Johnson (Perry), Yolanda Johnson, Stacey and Jenelle Anderson; nephews, Chris and Rodney Wilson, George E. Boyd, Jr., William Booker and James Booker (Monica); a host of other family and special friends.

Obituary Preview: Darlean Frances Williams Herbert was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina on September 11, 1947. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late Simon Williams and Lola Walker Hartwell (Williams). She fought her battle courageously, with dignity and grace, until July 3, 2021 when the Lord sent his angels down and called her home to her Heavenly rest. In 1950, Darlean moved to Baltimore with her parents and other siblings. She was baptized at an early age at Charity Baptist Church in Baltimore, where she served on the Usher Board. She continued her spiritual journey at First Apostolic Faith Church, under the tutelage of the late Bishop Winfield A. Showell; where in 1980, she was saved and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Darlean continued her spiritual walk with the Lord, under the guidance of Apostle Cornelius F. Showell. Darlean attended Dunbar Junior and Senior High Schools. Later, as a young woman, she met and fell in love with the late Joseph Bernard Herbert Sr. (his parents - Brother Charlie and Mother Carol Herbert). Darlean and Joseph were joined in holy matrimony on December 25, 1964. From this holy union, three children were born: Evangeline May, Joseph Bernard, Jr. and Chantelle’ Renee. Darlean was a homemaker until her youngest child, Chantelle’ reached school age. Darlean then entered the workforce and became employed with The Rouse Company at theCross Keys Inn, retiring after 28 years of dedicated service in 2004. Darlean loved to garden. It was not uncommon for her to give gardening tips and share her secrets with anyone who wanted to know how. She kept her flower beds at her daughters’ homes, always lush and pretty. She loved two sports specifically, the games of golf and tennis; teaching herself the rules and nuances of both golf and tennis. She was intrigued by the current political climate and would routinely engage in thought-provoking conversations on the subject. Darlean would provide her family and others with the latest political news and tidbits daily. She loved to entertain and the rules of etiquette and proper presentation were essential to her. Most importantly and above all else, Darlean loved the Lord, always keeping her family grounded by giving guidance and counsel with the Word in her soft and unassuming disposition. Granny, as she was affectionately called by her Grandsons, was a caregiver to each of them and insisted on being a caregiver for each of her Great-grandchildren. As her illness progressed, her Grandsons and Great grandchildrens’ constant presence, love and devotion strengthened her resolve to fight her battle with grace, dignity, courage and faith. Darlean enjoyed game nights with her sisters: Ardelcia (deceased), Mary (deceased), Kay and Penny. When her sister, Selethia, would visit Baltimore from North Carolina, a family feast was inevitable with each sister preparing their specialty dish. Her nieces and nephews fondly remember dinners where the refrigerator storage drawer would be filled with her scrumptious potato salad. Darlean’s delightful delicious sweet potato pies were always a big hit with her family during the holiday season. It would not be uncommon for Aunt Darlean to bake 20-25 sweet potato pies; just to be certain each of her nieces and nephews could have their own pie to take home after a family gathering. In addition, her union with Joseph truly brought to her heart additional sisters and brothers. Joseph’s sister, Christine, and Darlean, affectionately called “Di”, forged a very special bond out of their love

for the Lord. Their sisterhood was filled with shared confidences and prayerful support of one another. Sister Darlean Frances Herbert, answered the call of those she loved, and who preceded her in death: Husband: Joseph Bernard, Sr., Son: Joseph Bernard, Jr., Sisters: Ardelcia May, Mary Ercel and Marilyn Donnie. Brothers: Simon Lenon and Aaron Winfield. Darlean leaves to cherish her legacy of love, daughters: Evangeline May and Chantelle’ Renee Wilson; Grandsons: Devin Michael (Jessica), Jordan Christian and Joshua Emmanuel. Great-grandsons: Devin Matthew, Desmond Michael, Demi Lynn and Serenity Christlee. Sisters: Selethia Gregory, Kay Fields, Darnell Hartwell and Regina Harris (Charles). Sisters-in-law: Christine Barnes and Carolyn Herbert-Butler. Brothers-in-law: Charles (Ernestine) and Benjamin. Throughout his life, Spencer demonstrated the importance of family, regardless of blood relation, and is well regarded for his intention to include everyone at his table. He was extremely close to his mother and was her rock. Spencer also had a tight relationship with his cousin Terrance “Terry” Venable, with whom he shares a birthday. Countless people have benefitted from Spencer’s dedication to change lives. Never one to shy away from mistakes of his past, Spencer excelled at sharing hard-fought wisdom from lessons learned through his experience—positive & negative. As a younger man, Spencer was intellectually curious and an avid reader. His interests ranged from history and English to math & finance. Spencer gained entrance to Howard University with a full-ride scholarship based on academic merit because of his SAT scores. Spencer played football throughout his youth and enjoyed many other sports. He loved spending time playing games of all kinds, especially Spades, Tonk, and Bones. Family meant everything to Spencer, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones. Spencer gave the best advice, both solicited and unsolicited.  He often gave advice you needed to hear but did not necessarily want to hear. Spencer understood the difficulties of life and strove to ensure the people within his care avoided repeating his mistakes. In this way, perhaps without intending to, Spencer found his own form of redemption.

To know Spencer was to love him. He left his handprint on your heart even though he was a man of few words. Once you were in his circle, you instantly became a part of the family. Opinions, advice, counsel, wisdom, and shade (where appropriate) are all the hallmarks of his smooth personality. Spencer left a profound impact on those around him.

Today and always, we remember Spencer—our father, our son, our uncle, our cousin, and our friend and though our hearts are heavy, and our eyes are teary, we take solace in the knowledge that he loved us. Because we are the beneficiaries of his example, we can honor him by living our best, full lives.

Spencer is preceded in death by his father, Zollie Pointer, and his sister Loranda Shaw-Manney. Spencer is survived by daughters Sydnee Furlong of Salt Lake City, UT, and Morgan Stevenson of Abingdon, MD, mother Florence Stevenson of Windsor Mill, MD, and sister Teressa Stevenson of Baltimore, MD. Additionally, Spencer loved & was loved by his extended family including Craig Stevenson of Baltimore, MD, Nicole Stevenson of Stillwater, OK, Jody Averette, and Sade Schofield, Shannon Schofield, John Locks, and Christian Suggs all of Baltimore, MD as well as grandchildren and great-nephews and great-nieces.
