Martha Eunice Stovall - June 22, 1939 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Chicago)
Obituary Preview: Martha Eunice Stovall (Mom, Eunice, Mott) was born June 22, 1939 in Williamson, Georgia to Frank and Ruby Jones. She accepted Christ at an early age and praised God for all her blessings, often naming them one by one. Martha lived a full and beautiful life of eighty-four years. God acknowledged that her earthly body had become weary and whispered, “Peace be Thine”. She passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Martha married Eugene Holloway at a young age. This union was blessed with two children: Joyous Denise Jones (children: Jeniah and Shamya) and Dwain Holloway (child: Mercedes). She later entered into a relationship with Earl Norman. This relationship was blessed with five children: Donovan Holloway Sr. (spouse: Mary, children: Donovan Jr., Dominic and Dante); Debra Lee (children: Jonathan and Jasmine); Valerie Wyatt (spouse: Michael, children: Brittney and Bianca); Tascha Williams (spouse: Lewis, children: Trischa, Lewis and Lauren) and Yolanda Higgins (child: Latise Tangherlini).
She married Willie Clarence Stovall, a love that lasted more than fifty years. This union was blessed with daughter: Clarion Eunice Stovall (Children: Keoscha and Derrick). Willie brought four children into the union: Barbara Stovall (deceased), Willie Stovall Jr. (spouse: Michelle, children: Keiyonna, Meshawnna, Thaddeus); Grace Judd (spouse: William, children: Thomas, Jonathan, Tavaris and Jamira) and Franklin David Stovall (spouse: Karen; children: Lillian, Nathaniel and Nicholas). Martha was also blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Willie gave Martha the nickname of Mott, a name of endearment reserved for him. Martha was proud of her blended family. She was most proud of keeping all the children together. The only steps in the family home were the ones that lead up to the bedrooms where all the children slept, and down to the basement where all the children played.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother Ruby Lee Hood Jones, father Franklin Jones, sister Lois Ellis, daughter Barbara Ann Stovall, uncles and aunts, and grandson Chessie Darin Joshua.
Martha was a hard worker. No job was too hard or too menial if it meant she could help feed her family. Having left Du Sable High School after the10th grade, she worked diligently to complete her high school education later in life, demonstrating to her children the payoff of perseverance and empowerment of education. She worked for many employers during her lifetime, including Premium Plastic, Flight Service at O’Hare Airport, St. Killian Catholic School, Academy of Our Lady and Trinity Services.
Martha was a passionate gardener and a great cook. She honed the art of creating meals out of whatever was on hand. Her “trade secret” was using grits to stretch the Malt-O-Meal. During the early years, Martha aniline taught their children to farm the backyard of their Chicago home. The family planted, cared for, and harvested prize crops of greens, beans, carrots, tomatoes, and corn. Nights were spent in the street in the front of the home where Double Dutch; foot racing; Red Light, Green Light; and Simon Says were welcome reprieves from the heat of the day and the hard work in the backyard (fields).
Most recently, Martha was proud of the artificial turf that she purchased piece by piece, just as much as she could load into her vehicle, and installed in the backyard. She and Willie spent early mornings and late afternoons on the back lawn, admiring and enjoying her work.
Martha enjoyed spending time with her husband, sons and daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They attended church, school functions, professional sporting events, and family celebrations. They vacationed in Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, New York, South Carolina, Jerusalem and Greece. Martha looked forward to the annual Branson, Missouri vacation she spent with her sister Lois, and her sister-in-law, Sweet Peach. She loved playing Bingo and board games. Her favorites were Monopoly, Uno, and bid whist.
Martha found spiritual solace at Abundant Blessing Church in Chicago.

Paralee Young - July 08, 1941 - March 29, 2024

Departed: 03/29/2024 (Chicago)
Obituary Preview: PARALEE ‘PAT” YOUNG entered this earthly life on July 8, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mom, Sarah J. Wyatt; father and stepmother, Charles and Kay Henderson, Sr.; one son, Eugene Young, Jr.; one daughter, Charlotte Davidson; one grandson, Laquandus Marion; two sisters, Janie Johnson and Rahna Harris, and one brother, Wilbur Wyatt.
Pat accepted Christ at an early age. Her faith and relationship with God were unwavering. She kept her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lifted in prayer. In addition, she would have monthly Daily Word magazines sent to her family for their personal ongoing prayer, meditation, and inspiration. She reminded family often to ‘Let Go and Let God’.
Pat received her education in the Chicago Public School system. She attended Williard Elementary and DuSable High School.
Pat married Charles Davidson and to this union Janetta, Charlotte, and Cheryl were born. She later met and married Eugene Young, Sr. They had five children: Eugene, Eugenia, Janie, Adrienne, and Sylvia. She was affectionately called Moe by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who enjoyed listening to her stories and candid opinions. Pat loved ‘Moe’s Babies’ dearly and shared life lessons with them.
For most of her children’s childhood, Pat was a stay-at-home mother. She was an active PTA member, Girl Scout leader, and block club member. She later worked as an election poll judge, mail sorter, medical dispatcher, and school bus attendant. Pat was known by family, friends, and acquaintances to be direct and outspoken. She was creative and a lifelong learner. She shared and encouraged others to seek knowledge and understanding. Her interests included hosting family gatherings/parties, reading, listening to music and dancing. Pat adamantly told her family to read and speak up for yourself! Her love for her seven children was unmatched and was even more than her love for her elephant collection with their trunks up facing east… or Howard Hewitt!
Her nieces, nephews and neighborhood children could always be found at her home playing board games, watching movies, or attending parties. She also loved playing games of chance whether it was Tunk with her card club, slots at the casino, or lottery numbers. She would often look up what number to play based on your dreams or name.
Her family have fond memories of Pat’s straight no chaser personality. She was famous for saying “I’m not sugarcoating anything!”. You never had to doubt where you stood with her. She often shared her thoughts with laughter and a side of mother wit. When she wasn’t up for dealing with shenanigans, she would say in her signature deep raspy voice, “Baby Bye!”.
Pat was a loving, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and daughter. She was also a strong and resilient woman who overcame years of health challenges until the Lord called her home on Good Friday, March 29, 2024.
She leaves a legacy to cherish her memory, six daughters, Janetta “Jan” Davidson, Cheryl Davidson (Waterloo, Iowa), Eugenia “Genia” (Tyrone) Johnson, Janie “Dee Dee” Davis, Adrienne “Paddy” (James) Sar (Lakewood, California), and Sylvia “Nikki” (Dwight) McCall (Chesterfield, Virginia); three sisters, Waunetta Murray, Charlotte Henderson (Las Vegas, Nevada), and Latanya Young; three brothers, Walter “Butch” Wyatt, Feltus “Preston” Wyatt, and Charles “Sport” Henderson, Jr. (Las Vegas, Nevada); 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also cherished her over four decades long friendship with Bernice Holmes. She will be truly missed!

Joshua placed his hands and heart in God and accepted Christ at a young age at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C. R. Phillips with his mother. At seven, Joshua’s spiritual growth, love, and service to God continued at Christ Universal Temple under the leadership and guidance of Rev. Johnnie Colemon, Rev. Helen Carry, Rev. Fred Randall and, Ms. Peggy Rhodes-White. He was active in the Sunday school and later became a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Youth Expressing Christ, the media team, April Birth Month, and Healthy Concept groups.
Joshua was educated in public and private school systems and graduated from Harvard School (Class 2001) and Hales Franciscan High School. While at Hales, he was active with the bowling and track teams. He later attended Columbia College Chicago, majoring in audio-visual technical. He was a certified rigger. His love of bowling continued to the very end. This year, he was selected to represent his league in Beat the Champs.
Joshua volunteered and worked at DuSable Museum of African American History, giving educational tours, theater tech, greeter, and museum store clerk. He also interned at the Black Theater Ensemble to further develop his audio-visual and acting skills. Later, he danced and drummed for Muntu, where he had the opportunity to meet and learn from the renowned BaBa Chuck during Dance Africa presentation by the DuSable Museum. He has worked with Central City Productions as a special assistant to Don Jackson for the Bud Billiken Parade and Chicago Football Classic. He was also an assistant track coach at the University of Chicago Lab School. As his GOD-given gifts made room for him, he has had the opportunity to provide his audio-visual technical skills to many cultural and commercial projects throughout Chicago. He had recently lent his knowledge and skills to developing the National Museum of Gospel Music.
Some of Joshua’s proudest moments included serving as a pastoral escort for the Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon, meeting with President Barack Obama in the White House Oval Office during his first term in office, his lifelong association with Rainbow PUSH, taking music classes with AACM, participating with Chicago’s Peer Jury program, and his involvement through advocating in support of the African American museum and cultural industries. Joshua loved to travel and went to places that young people his age could only dream about. He traveled to Africa when he was twelve and brought home his first drum, which he loved to play and most recently shared that love with his son. He loved to cook and mastered various crafts by participating in his family’s business, HerVel’s Unlimited Ceramics Arts and Crafts, founded by his maternal grandparents. Like his mother, no one was a stranger to Joshua, and he welcomed everyone with love.
On Sunday, January 28, 2024, Joshua transitioned to God’s care and continuing love, joining his parents, and loving aunt, Loretta Johnson, and other ancestors. He leaves to cherish his memory loving and supportive family: Son, Joshua C.
