Meredith Lynn Heintzelman - October 29, 1944 - April 06, 2022

Obituary Preview: No services are planned for Meredith Lynn Frazier Heintzelman who passed away peacefully at her home near Salado on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
She was born to Broadaway and Bettina Frazier in Washington, D.C. on October 29, 1944, just weeks before her father's participation in the Battle of the Bulge and later service as a prosecutor at the Nuremburg trials. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia and attended the Women's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She married Brian S. Heintzelman in McLean, Virginia in June, 1972.
During a 30 year government career she worked at several federal agencies while following the whims of her husband's career. These included: the  Agricultural Marketing Service in Washington, D.C.; the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Department of Agriculture, Kansas City, Missouri; the Department of Justice, Washington, during which time she met and married Brian. She also worked for the flight surgeon of the FAA at the Denver Airport; the EPA in New York City where she met a lady whose head was wrapped in aluminum foil to ward off gamma rays; the Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia; the U.S. Forest Service in San Francisco; the Veteran's Administration in Temple, Texas, and finally retired from the Agricultural Research Service in Temple as their Administrative Officer. She was a great problem solver, a mathematician, and a lover of animals.
She and Brian retired to a home they built in Salado where she lived for the next 26 years. During her retirement she did some traveling and became an avid quilter, making many cherished quilter friends along the way. Her life was filled with love for people and was loved by many in return.
She is survived by her husband and a brother, Charles Scott Frazier (Julie) of Richmond, Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by wonderful friends Dorothy and Jeff Thomas of Temple, and in the end times of her life she acquired a love for Jessica Duncan, her caring and compassionate Hospice nurse.

Obituary Preview: David was born on September 17, 1931 to William Cleveland and Ella V. Haynes Crews in Jarrell, Texas.
He grew up farming and working the fields in the Salado area with one sister and four brothers.
He graduated from Salado High School and enjoyed playing baseball, especially in the Temple Minor League.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilda Dennis Crews; son Dwayne Crews and wife, Kathy; son Randy Crews and wife, Libby; grandchildren Derrick Crews, Jason Crews, Larissa Crews Ross, J.D. VanSlyke, Lindi Jacks; as well as 14 great grandchildren.
David served in the Army 240th DMZ Police in Korea 1955-1956.  He enjoyed meeting people as he served as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years.  Outside of work, he enjoyed playing horse-shoes, softball, golf, and bowling.  He also enjoyed worship and fellowship with the fellow believers at First Baptist Church, Lancaster, Texas.  He lived life with a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye. Obituary Preview: Services for Mrs. Jessie Lorene Powitzky will be Thursday, April, 7, 2022 at 2:30 PM at the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, in New Braunfels, Texas.
Mrs. Powitzky died March 27, 2022 at her son’s home in Salado, Texas.
Mrs. Powitzky was born April 27, 1930 in Rule, Texas. Her family moved several times because they were farmers and eventually ended up in the Rio Grande Valley, near Raymondville.
Jessie became a bank teller where she met and married Charles B. Powitzky. Charles, who worked for Exxon, was transferred several times. Jessie continued her banking career while raising one son, Lance.
Jessie enjoyed taking care of family and home but she would travel many weekends to other Texas cities.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and 1st Baptist Church of Kingsville, Tx: then finally a member of 1st Baptist Church of New Braunfels, Tx.
She is preceded by her parents, Roy and Bessie Fletcher, and her husband, Charles B. Powitzky.
She is survived by her son, S. Lance Powitzky and his wife Stephanie: 3 grandchildren: Christopher L. Powitzky, Charles S. Powitzky and wife Taryn, Courtney J. Patsy Ann Davis - December 06, 1933 - March 23, 2022

Patsy Ann Lewis Mayfield Davis, surrounded by four generations of her family, met her Savior on March 23, 2022. Patsy was born in Plainview, Texas on December 6, 1933 to John Clarence and Claudia Shropshire Lewis. She grew up in Winters and Brownfield, graduating from Brownfield High School in 1951. She graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1955. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Tech University in 1959.
In June 1957, Patsy married Charles Edmond Mayfield at First Baptist Church Plainview. Patsy and Charles made their home in Lubbock with their five children. Patsy devoted her life to education, both as an elementary teacher in public schools and at Oakwood Baptist Church where she and Charles took great pride in being charter members.
In July 1998, Patsy married Dr. Wallace Edmond Davis. They lived in Plainview for four years while he served as President and Chancellor of Wayland Baptist University before retiring to Salado. She took great joy in serving as first lady of her beloved alma mater.  Patsy and Wallace were very active at the First Baptist Church of Belton and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where they faithfully served for over twenty years.
Patsy co-authorized three books with Wallace: God’s Christmas Gift, Santa’s Closet, and It Came to Pass. Patsy also authored The Quilt Book and Big Mama’s Little Stories.
Patsy was preceded in death by Charles Mayfield in 1989. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Wallace Davis of Salado; five children, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; Todd Mayfield and wife Mitzi of Hunt, and their three children, Claudia Thomas, husband Matthew and great grandson McIsiac of Jacksonville, NC, Ellen Esslinger, husband Aaron and great grandson James of North Richland Hills, and Rollins of Amarillo; Melissa Neal and husband Gene, and their two children, Eliza and Stewart of Phoenix, AZ; Dial Mayfield and wife Paige and their two sons, Harper and Boone of Allen; Rachel Wilcox and husband Jason and their two daughters, Anna and Sophia of Coppell; and Scot Mayfield and wife Marla of Lubbock and their three sons, Barron of Dallas, Milam, and Preston of Lubbock.
Although Patsy was small in stature, her life was vast in her love of God, love of family, and love of those she taught.
She was known to her grandkids and great-grandkids and all who asked as Big Mama. “…indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.” Psalm 16:6

Obituary Preview: George Nick Hoellen IV was born May 6, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois and died Monday, March 21, 2022 in Salado, Texas after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George III and Helen Hoellen, parents-in-law Otis and Edna Budlong, brother Doug Hoellen, sister-in-law Sue Budlong, and brothers-in-law Jim Budlong and Del Budlong.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kathy Hoellen (Budlong); sons Jay (Jill) Hoellen of Yutan, NE and David (Paige) Hoellen of Salado, TX; Grandchildren Kate & Kyle Hoellen of Yutan, NE and Mckenna & Hank Hoellen of Salado, TX; Sister Marcia (Joseph) Rodriquez of Springtown, TX; sister Kathy (Randy) Taylor of Davenport, IA; Brother-in-law Irving Budlong, of Newport Beach, CA; Sister-in-law Madeline Hoellen, of Annawan, IL; and Sister-in-law Marsha Budlong of Breinigsville, PA; Numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Martha Jane C. Morehead - September 20, 1940 - March 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Martha Jane Carver (Finlayson) Morehead, 81 made her journey to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday March 18, 2022. She loved Jesus all her life since she was raised in a Christian believers home.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She knew no enemy but only love for everyone. She was a lady inside and out; she treated everyone she met with a lady like attitude. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Martha Jane was born in Tampa, Florida on September 20, 1940. Older of two daughters of Ulysses Grant Finlayson and Caroline Olive(Suarez) Finlayson. She was very proud of her heritage; since her father was hundred percent Scottish and her mother was hundred percent Spanish.
Her greatest joys were being married, birth of her son, birth of her two grandchildren. Another thing she enjoyed was teaching school for Forty Three (43) years; teaching kindergarten , 1st grade and 3rd grade both in Florida and Texas. It was always a special treat to he when a former student came up to her in public and hugged her and thanked her for being their teacher. Because Martha Jane truly enjoyed teaching and showing her students the wonders of learning and reaching their goals in education.
Martha Jane took great pleasure in music. She played flute in her high school band. When she began teaching she purchased a Baldwin concert organ , which she played up until she became ill. She loved to play and sing the old hymns especially. She would always play Howard’s favorite hymn “That Old Rugged Cross” when playing the organ.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Howard Stephen Morehead; one son Stephen Howard Morehead and his wife Anya Morehead of Killeen, Texas; two grandchildren Alexander Crispin Morehead and Sophia Rose Morehead . A sister, Judith Gail (Finlayson) Landrum and her husband John Harold Landrum Jr. of North Carolina. Two nephews, John Harold Landrum III of Virginia and Michael Grant Landrum of Virginia. A sister-in-law, D. Elaine Morehead of Temple, Texas, and many cousins.
The memory of Martha Jane will be cherished by so many who knew her during her lifetime and will look forward to meeting her in the future.
Martha Jane was a member of First Baptist Church of Belton, Texas. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made in her name to the building fund of the First Baptist Church, 506 North Main St. Belton, Texas 76513. Mrs. Hill was born on May 6, 1938 to Odell and Dorothy Ivey in the Armstrong community.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crosswords, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, RC Hill, Sr., and brother John Guthrie. She is survived by siblings, Phillip Ray Ivey, Jimmy Dale Ivey, GW Ivey, and Maybell Frey as well as her children Brenda Haverland, RC Hill Jr. and wife Priscilla, and Danny Hill and wife Linda. She was and will always be Nana to her grandchildren Robert Haverland, Jr., Anthony Haverland, RC Hill III (Trey) and wife Lindsey, Tyler Brooke Naegele and husband Mat, JaCee Byrd and husband Matt, Jackie Davis and husband Jeff, and Mitchell Hill and wife Haley as well as 12 great and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Doris Estelle Chapman Dement, 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at a local hospital in Temple, TX. Doris was born on September 1, 1922, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Ranald L B Chapman and Mamie Bates Chapman. She graduated from Hume Fog High School, Nashville, TN, in 1942 and attended the Advertising Art School in Nashville in 1944.  Doris married Grover C. Dement, Jr, on December 25, 1946, in Birmingham, AL, and together they raised a son and daughter. After living in Birmingham, they moved in 1993 to Belton, TX, then lived five years in Columbia, TN, before moving to Temple, then Belton, TX. Doris received wonderful care in her final years at Park Place Manor in Belton. She overcame many obstacles in her life, including polio at age four with ensuing multiple operations, poverty through the Great Depression, World War II, teenagers and macular degeneration. She even survived having COVID but always kept a positive attitude and never complained. She loved teaching art to friends and grandchildren, loved Eugenia Price stories, and playing games. She was a member of Salado Church of Christ and enjoyed attending Belton church services at Park Place. Doris is survived by her son, John Dement and his wife, Susan; daughter, Connie Cryar and her husband, Keith; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mary died on February 28 at 6:17 am at her residence.  She was born January 21, 1922, in Laurel, Mississippi to James and Jessie Miller.  She graduated from Ole’ Miss and later attended Columbia University.
She married Dr. Gene Robertson on May 9, 1958.  They resided in Dallas for two years, McGregor for 38 years, and Salado for the last 25 years.  She was a member of the Salado United Methodist Church. Mary enjoyed reading, gardening, and shopping.
Survivors include her husband, L. E. Gene Robertson MD; her son, L.E. Bud Robertson Jr., MD and wife, Deirdre Buchanan Robertson of Savannah, GA; grandchildren: Christian Robertson of Savannah, GA, Anna Robertson of Charleston, SC, and Miles Robertson of Savannah, GA; brother, John Miller of Granbury, TX, May Bingham of Flower Mound, TX, and brother Gay White of Birmingham, AL.
She is preceded in death by her brother, James Miller.

Bill passed away on Thursday, February 24th 2022 at 6:30pm with wife Kay and son Jason by his side at their son’s home in  Salado, Texas.
He was born on May 14, 1941 to Walter F. Hofer & Gladys L. Cavin Hofer at Quintard (Mercy) Hospital in San Diego, California.
He graduated from Lincoln high school in 1959.
He married (10yrs)and had two daughters with first wife Gail and went to work in the industrial linen supply business for 40 yrs with Gates Admiral/ Aramark.
He married Kay Moline on August 22, 1975 in the Imperial  Valley where he was involved with the Lyons Club & was chapter President in Brawley, Ca.  before  returning to San Diego in 1978.
He and Kay were married for 47 years and together raised their son Jason and were all very active in the Bass fishing community. Belonging to The Strokers Bass Club since the inception, 1970-71 until present, he assumed many roles in the club and was recently awarded President for life. He was very proud to be part of such a rewarding sport that he shared with everyone any chance he had. He may have forgotten your name, but he’d never forget a fishing spot, lure used, line, or what the weather was that day and kept meticulous records of every trip out! His garage looked like a tackle store any man would be thrilled to own!!
He is survived by his wife Kay, son Jason Hofer&Gretchen, of Salado, Tx, daughter Teri Dizaye, of Winchester Ca., four Grandchildren, William(&Wife Phoebe) and Sarah Hofer, Shaydia and Aliya Dizaye, 10 nephews, and 2 nieces, and several greats.
He was predeceased by his parents and half sister Shirley Carney.

Joseph Giau M. Quan - January 15, 1925 - February 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Col. (ret.) Joseph Giau M. Quan
Mr. Quan was born on January 15, 1925 in Ha Noi, Vietnam. He was the second of eight children. He had an older brother, two youger brothers and four younger sisters. He received an education from the Christian Brothers. He also received from them the Catholic faith, and thought about a vocation to the priesthood. After graduating from highschool, he began formation with the Canadian Redemptorist Fathers (CSsR) in the city of Hue in central Viet Nam. After a few years, he left due to a chronic health condition, and took up a teaching position.After teaching school for a few years, he was accepted to attend the Joint Military Academy in Da Lat, Viet Nam in 1950. After graduating as a lieutenant in 1951, he was sent to North Viet Nam to fight against the Vietnamese Communists. At this time, the Army was still under French command. He was eventually given the command of a light battalion operating in North Vietnam until the Geneva Accord was signed in 1954, dividing Viet Nam at the 17th Parallel. As North Vietnam came under the Communist rule, Mr. Quan moved to South Vietnam and continued to serve in the armed forces, which by now had transitioned to be under Vietnamese command.
Not long after moving to South Vietnam, Mr. Quan was introduced to Ms. Hong Chang Le, who was an army nurse. Following a traditional courtship, they married on October 26, 1955, the same date as the founding of the 1st Republic of South Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Quan raised five children, four sons and a daughter in the Catholic faith, and provided them with an excellent education in Catholic school. Later, they also adopted a niece. Mr. Quan held a number of positions in the Army of the Republic of South Vietnam, eventually attaining the rank of full colonel.
In 1975, when the North Vietnamese Communists overtook South Vietnam, Mr. Quan and his family arrived in the US as refugees. They settled at first in Oklahoma, then moved to Austin, Texas in 1980. He took on different careers, first as a store clerk, then an HVAC technician, and also an industrial draftsman. Mr. Quan and his wife worked hard to provide for the children, helping them to complete their college education. He paid close attention to his spiritual life and sought to help friends and acquaintances to grow in their Christian faith throughout his long life. After his wife died in 2006, Mr. Quan moved to Arizona to live with this children and grandchildren who had settled there. He had thirteen grandchildren.
Following sixteen years of living happily with family, he passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 in Willcox, AZ in the presence of his family. He took his last breath as his eldest son, a priest, concluded a prayer to commend him to the Heavenly Father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, a brother, and two sisters. Vài giòng Tiểu Sử Cố Đại Tá Giuse Quan Minh Giầu
Ông sinh vào ngày 15 tháng Giêng năm 1925 tại Hà Nội trong một gia đình trung lưu.  Ông có một người anh trai, hai người em trai và bốn em gái.  Lúc còn niên thiếu Ông nhận được sự giáo dục từ các Sư Huynh dòng Lasan.  Ngoài sự học vấn Ông cũng tiếp nhận được đức tin Công Giáo từ các Sư Huynh, và bắt đầu có ý định đi tu làm linh mục.  Sau khi lấy bằng Diplome, Ông xin vào nhà tập của các Cha dòng Chúa Cứu Thế ở Huế.  Sau vài năm tu tập, vì lý do sức khoẻ Ông rời nhà tập và bắt đầu đi dạy học.
Sau vài năm trong nghề giáo, Ông xin nhập ngũ, vào Khoá 3 Trần Hưng Đạo Trường Võ Bị Liên Quân Đà Lạt năm 1950.  Sau khi mãn khoá năm 1951 với cấp bậc thiếu uý, Ông được phái ra miền Bắc để hành quân chống Việt Minh.  Lúc này quân đội vẫn còn trong tay sĩ quan Pháp chỉ huy.  Một thời gian sau, Ông được bổ làm chỉ huy trưởng một tiểu đoàn khinh quân hoạt động trong khu vực Bùi Chu, Phát Diệm cho đến ký kết Hiệp Định Geneve năm 1954, chia đôi đất nước.  Ông cùng tiểu đoàn đi vào Nam và tiếp tục phục vụ trong quân ngũ.
Sau khi vào Nam một khoảng thời gian không lâu,  Ông được giới thiệu với Cô Lê Thị Hồng Chang, lúc đó đang là một nữ y tá trong Quân Y.  Sau một thời gian tìm hiểu, hai người quyết định đi đến hôn nhân.  Đám cưới được cử hành ngày 26 tháng 10 năm 1955, trùng ngày thành lập Đệ Nhất Cộng Hoà.
Ông Bà sinh được 5 người con, bốn trai và một gái.  Ông Bà nuôi nấng và giáo dục các con trong đức tin Công Giáo.  Sau này Ông Bà có nhận một người cháu làm dưỡng nữ.  Ông nắm giữ một số chức vụ trong QLVNCH và Chính Phủ Việt Nam Cộng Hoà, phục vụ tại Trường Võ Bị Liên Quân Đà Lạt, Phòng 3 TTM, Bộ Xây Dựng Nông Thôn, và Trung Tâm Huấn Luyện Quang Trung.
Ngày 29 tháng 4 năm 1975 Ông cùng gia đình di tản sang Hoa Kỳ, lúc đầu định cư tại Tiểu Bang Oklahoma.  Bắt đầu từ năm 1980 Ông cùng gia đình ngụ cư tại thành phố Austin, thuộc Tiểu Bang Texas.  Sau khi rời binh nghiệp lúc di tản,  Ông chuyên cần kiếm kế sinh nhai để nuôi dưỡng các con đến khôn lớn.  Ông chú tâm đào luyện đời sống tâm linh, và tìm cách giúp thân bằng quyến thuộc tăng trưởng trong đức tin.  Sau khi Bà Giầu mất năm 2006, Ông dọn qua Tiểu Bang Arizona để chung sống với các con thứ.  Ông có được 13 người cháu nội ngoại.
Sau 16 năm sống vui vẻ gần các con các cháu, Ông được Chúa gọi về vào lúc 3:40 chiều ngày 14 tháng 2 năm 2022 tại thành phố Willcox, thuộc Tiểu Bang Arizona.  Ông trút hơi thở cuối cùng trong khi người con trưởng là linh mục dâng lời cầu nguyện tiễn Ông về cùng Cha trên Trời, người Cha đầy lòng nhân hậu và hay xót thương.

Obituary Preview: Masonic graveside services for Lindsay Cleveland will be on Saturday, February 12, 10:00 am at Cedar Knob Cemetery. George “Lindsay” Cleveland Jr., 82 of Salado, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Arline and George Cleveland, and his sister, Charlotte Arneach. Lindsay was born on January 26, 1940, in Lynchburg, VA. He attended Kentucky Military Academy, Rose Polytechnic Institute, Clemson College and UNC. He worked at Nasa as a Guidance and Control Engineer on the Saturn B1 rocket. After receiving a Master's Degree in Computer Science, he worked at Bell Labs in Research Triangle and in Chicago. He then transferred to AT&T in Atlanta and worked as a contractor at several Atlanta companies. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Salado, TX and volunteered for several local charities. During his time in Atlanta, he spent 15 years singing in the choral groups: Gwinnett Festival Singers and DeKalb Choral Guild. He and his wife joined two tours to England, Ireland and Wales in 1988 and 2000. He was a 40 year Mason and was very involved in his local Lodges. In Atlanta, he was active member of the Shrine and was involved in communications for parades. In Salado, he was Treasurer for Zerne Lodge in Holland and visited Lodges in Temple, Belton, Salado and Florence, regurlarly. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, York Rite and Scottish Rite. Lindsay is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Carolyn. Also, brother-in-law, Lloyd Arneach; nephew, Lloyd K. Arneach; niece, Dawn Arneach, and serveral great nieces and nephews, all of Cherokee, NC. Visitation will be Friday, February 11 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Broecker Funeral Home in Salado. Kenneth Evans - September 04, 1936 - February 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: Kenneth Evans passed away on February 2, 2022 at the age of 85 in Fort Worth, Texas. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years illustrated his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite these challenges, Kenneth came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
He was born in Gatesville, Texas on September 4, 1936 to Edith and Thomas Evans. The family later moved to Salado when Kenneth was in the 3rd grade where he went on to graduate from Salado High School in 1955.
Kenneth married the love of his life, Vadena Frazier Evans, in May of 1957. They began their life together in College Station, Texas where he became a member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1959 earning a degree in Civil Engineering. He later obtained his license as a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. Kenneth’s career began at the Texas Highway Department now known as the Texas Department of Transportation. He then served as Hill County Surveyor for many years before returning to TXDOT where he retired in 2001.
Family, Bluebell ice cream, a good cup of coffee in the early morning, baseball, and being outdoors fishing and hunting were Kenneth’s idea of a perfect life. He was a member of the Hunting and Fishing Club of Hillsboro as well as a life-longmember of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vadena Frazier Evans; his son Ken Evans and wife Kristi; his son Joel Evans and wife Melissa; two granddaughters – Amy Watts (Dane) and Ashley Tinsley (Phillip); and four great grandchildren – Evan and Ava Watts, Bingham and Jameson Tinsley.
Kenneth’s quiet and strong spirit will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known this great man.

Helen Ann Pajestka - November 30, 1930 - January 31, 2022

Obituary Preview: Helen was born in rural Bell County to Charles Jirasek and Frances Zbranek on November 30, 1930. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Will O Bell Nursing Center on Monday, January 31, 2022. She was lovingly known as Granny to most of her family. She married the love of her life, FrankPajestka, Sr., in 1948. They were priviledged to celebrate 70 years of marriage in 2018 prior to his death. Helen had two children: Frank, Jr., and Monica Cecila. Helen was called on many times when her children were in school to serve in concession stands, PTA events, and other community activities. After her children were grown, she continued to serve the community in many ways whether to offer baking advice, gardening help, or wisdom that comes with experience. Helen worked on the farm and in the community for different families and organizations in her lifetime. She maintained her Czech heritage by continuing to speak Czech occiasionally and she enjoyed listening to the Polka Show on the radio, as it brought back many a happy memory. She was a devoted homemaker and an excellent cook and baker. She helped many people with baking hints drawn from her extensive culinary experiences. Helen took pleasure in her enormous collection of cookbooks and recipes from many different places and sources, especially, the Dallas State Fair Cookbooks. Her greatest joys were taking care of her grandchildren and playing bingo. Helen served the American Legion Post #525 of Holland and Holland SPJST with bingo for over 35 years. She was a member of: Granger KJZT, Holland SPJST Lodge #80, Holland American Legion Auxiliary ,and St. Stephen Catholic Church, Salado. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Pajestka, Sr., four sisters; three brothers and one great grandchild. She is survived by her son: Frank Jr., and wife Risa of Holland; daughter, Monica McDougall and Husband Jim of Temple; grandchildren: Monica Ann Weir (Kenny), Michele Taylor (Scott), Kenneth Drake II, Victoria Zajicek (Brad) and Cyril Pajestka (Angela); great grandchildren: Faith Clay, Kole Weir, Hayden Taylor, Bethany Zajicek and Thomas Zajicek. The family would like to express our deep appreciation to Scott and White Hospital and ER staff, Scott and White Hospice Care, and, especially, the staff at Will O Bell Nursing for their care of Mother. Visitation will be Saturday, February 5, 12:00 PM at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Salado. A rosary will be recited prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Granger, TX., with Father Tom Chamberlain, officiating.

Nadine married Jimmie Lee Gidley II who went off to fulfill his military service.  Upon his return, the couple decided to settle in Salado where they proudly owned and operated Salado Electrical Service Company.
Nadine was a woman of faith and throughout her life she served the community as a dedicated caregiver for many friends and family.
She is survived by her son: Jimmie Lee Gidley III and wife, Jodi of Santa Fe, TX; daughter: Rebecca Michelle Gidley of Salado; niece: Doris Dlouhy and nephew: Ski Dlouhy. Addition, she has six grandchildren: Jimmie Gidley IV, Jace Gidley, Camron Gidley, Jaxson Gidley, Eli Gidley and Levi Gidley.

Jefferson Dunnam McKinney - December 30, 1930 - December 23, 2021

Obituary Preview: Jefferson (Jeff) Dunnam McKinney was born December 30, 1930 in Waco, Texas and died peacefully at home in Salado, Texas on December 23, 2021. Jeff spent his early years in Waco with his parents, William H. McKinney and Mayme Dunnam McKinney, and his siblings, Ruth, W.H. Jr., Douglas, Mayme, Robert, Myrtle, Juanita and Dorothy. Later he moved to Holland, Texas where his family owned and operated a dairy for several years.  It was while attending high school and earning letters in three sports that he met the love of his life, Joyce Steglich. After high school graduation, duty called him to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on Midway Island where he worked as an aviation electronics technician. In December of 1952, he was granted a short leave during which he and Joyce Steglich were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bartlett, Texas.  Soon after, he was assigned to Naval Air Station Hutchinson in Kansas, and it was there that their first child was born, son Michael.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he moved his young family to Austin, Texas where he attended the University of Texas and received a BBA degree in Accounting.  During this time, he and Joyce added two daughters to the family, Debra and Kathleen. After completion of his education, Jeff took a job in Dallas,Texas as a computer programmer with Mobil Oil. After several years there, he had an opportunity to move back to central Texas and took a position as an accountant for the Steck Vaughn Paper Company.  Later, he worked as the Comptroller at the Texas Insurance Advisory Association and was there until he retired in 1995. He was a faithful Texas Longhorn fan and enjoyed following football, baseball, and basketball. During his time in Austin, he was an active member and deacon at Woodlawn Baptist Church and later at Bannockburn Baptist Church, serving as the church treasurer as well as chairman of the finance committee.
After retirement, Jeff and Joyce relocated to Salado, Texas where they built their forever home. Jeff became active in the community serving as treasurer for the Salado Lions Club for many years and later for the Thursday Club Alzheimer Respite in Temple, Texas, a mission of First Baptist Church Belton where he was a faithful member and deacon. Jeff took great pride and pleasure in his family, especially his grandchildren, attending numerous school and sporting events in support of them from elementary school through college. In the years that followed,  he saw his family grow and multiply with the marriages of his grandchildren and the additions of two great grandchildren.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, William Hester and Mayme McKinney, his siblings, Ruth Smith, W.H. McKinney, Jr., Douglas McKinney, Mayme Lee Parker, Robert McKinney, Myrtle Grace McEver, Juanita Raborn, Dorothy Halloran and his daughters, Debra Lynn McKinney and Kathleen McKinney Vitek. He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Joyce Jean (Steglich) McKinney, his son, Michael McKinney (and wife Susan), grandson Scott McKinney (and wife Erin), granddaughter, Elizabeth McKinney Sauppe (and husband Jakob), great grandaughter, Mattie McKinney, great grandson, Grayson McKinney and son-in-law, Ron Vitek. Jeff's was a life well-lived as he valued his faith and family above all else. We were blessed to call him husband, Dad and Poppi. He will forever be in our hearts as we all look forward to being together again.

Thomas H. Westerberg - March 20, 1931 - December 06, 2021

Obituary Preview: Air Force Senior Master Sargent (Ret) Thomas H. Westerberg of Salado, TX passed away on December 6, 2021.  Tom was 90 years old. Services will be Saturday, December 18, 11:00 am at Salado Cemetery Pavilion with military honors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean and daughter MaryAnn Westerberg.  He is survived by his children: Deborah Huff and husband Lou of Georgetown, Dianne Ferguson and husband Greg of Austin, Carolyn Thompson and husband Kevin of Victoria, and son, Tom Westerberg and wife Sandra of Kyle and Salado.  His 14 grandchildren: Travis Mroski, Derek Mroski (Kristy), Megan Mroski, Thomas England (Lacey), Jordan England, Doug England, Kayleigh Ferguson, Scott Ferguson, Christi Ferguson, Kristen Miller (Jackson), Ryan Thompson, Kyle Westerberg (Lindsay), Lance Westerberg and Corri Westerberg, and 10 great grandchildren: Lainee Mroski, Lenzi Tomlin, Wesley Tomlin, Michael England, Emma Miller, Max Miller, Lillian Miller, Quinn Miller, Parker Westerberg and Peyton Westerberg.
Tom was born in Minneapolis, MN.  He graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis in 1949.  He and his buddies drove a 1941 Plymouth panel truck to Alaska to work in Fairbanks.  When he returned to Minneapolis he attended the University of Minnesota until joining the Air Force.  Tom married the love of his life, Jean MacKaracher in Springfield Massachusetts on March 6, 1954.  They were married for 66 years.  He served in the Air Force for 22 years, and then moved the family to Round Rock, TX.  They moved to Salado in 1979. Tom worked for Texas Instruments in Austin, then Temple.  He also worked for the Temple Daily Telegram until he retired.
Tom had a life-long love of sports, his favorites being football and golf.  He took up golf as a teenager and enjoyed the sport his entire life.  He scored 3 holes-in-one and had his last putting session about 2 months before he passed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Wesleyan Assisted Living and Wesleyan Hospice for the loving care that they provided to Tom.

Obituary Preview: William (Billy) David Hughes, 43 of Salado passed away at his residence on December 3, 2021.
He was born in Pasadena, Texas, November 15, 1978 to Donald Gail Hughes and Sherry Louise Vernon.
Billy graduated from Salado High School in 1997 and has lived in and around Salado for 25 years.
He served in the United States Army for 4 years and was stationed in El Paso, Texas.  He was deployed to Iraq during the Iraq Freedom War.
Billy was an amazing father.  He coached his boys’ baseball and supported all his children in everything they did.  He was dearly loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.  He was a building contractor, played guitar, loved his Cowboys and was an accomplished griller.
Billy is preceded in death by his father; grandfather, W. R. Vernon; grandmother, Jimmie Vernon and sister, Jaquelin Sue Hughes.
He is survived by his children: Hamilton, Raylan, Tennesse and Anthony.  He is also survived by his mother and step-father Robert Garwood of Belton; sister, Ronnie Gail and brother-in-law Wesley Tucker of Belton; brother, Robert Hughes of Arizona; step-sister, Sabina Maigatter of Arizona and step-sister, Samantha Garwood of Georgia and step-sister, Kim Reymundo; with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Billy will be: Visitation from 5 – 8:00 pm, Monday, December 13, 2021 at Broecker Funeral Chapel, Salado; a Celebration of Life, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 10:00 am at Heritage Country Church, 9929 Lark Trail, Salado with Ricky Lindsey, officiating and burial, Wednesday, December 15, 2021, 11:00 am at Central Texas Veteran Cemetery, Killeen with military honors.

Rev. Robert L. Kincl - September 16, 1942 - November 19, 2021

Obituary Preview: Reverend Robert L. Kincl,, a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Austin for 56 years, and a military chaplain for more than two decades, died in Georgetown, Texas on November 19, 2021, at the age of 79.  The son of the late Louis and Leona Naivar Kincl, he was born in Taylor, Texas on September 16, 1942.
He was ordained a Catholic priest at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy, on December 21, 1967, and earned a degree in sacred theology in 1968 from the Pontifical Gregorian University; a master in spirituality at Duquesne University in 1984; and a degree in canon law at the Catholic University of America in 1997.  Rev. Kincl was a chaplain in the U. S. Navy from 1974 to 1995, serving in the Persian Gulf, two tours in Okinawa, Japan, was with the Naval District in Washington D.C., ending his naval career with the rank of Commander at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He then served three years as chaplain with the U. S. Army from 2003 to 2006 at Fort Hood, Texas, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Rev. Kincl served as an Associate Pastor at St. Mary Parish, and later at St. Louis Parish, both in Waco, Texas.  He also served at St. Mary in Temple, St. Joseph in Rockdale, and Saints Cyril & Methodius in Granger, Texas. For several years, he was Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Laredo and Adjutant Judicial Vicar and Tribunal Judge for the Diocese of Austin.
Rev. Kincl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Kincl Dobias.
The Divine Liturgy for the faithful departed will be celebrated at Our Lady’s Maronite Catholic Church, 1320 E. 51st Street, Austin, Texas, on Wednesday December 1, 2021, at 11:00 AM with viewing in the narthex beginning at 10:00 AM, Chorbishop Don Sawyer officiating. Burial will be at Fort Hood Cemetery, Killeen, Texas, December 2, 2021, 11:00 AM with full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, November 30, 5:30 PM at Broecker Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM. Captain Terry Crowell - December 19, 1935 - November 11, 2021

Obituary Preview: Captain H. Terry Crowell of Salado, Texas went West on his final flight, November 11th, 2021, at his residence with his wife, Patricia by his side.  Terry was born in Montezuma, Georgia on December 19, 1935 to Terry Crowell and Willodean Davis Crowell.  He went to grade schools in Montezuma and attended the University of Georgia.
After attending the university he moved to Tampa, Florida where he went on with Delta Air Lines ground service and then moved to San Francisco to work the reservations and worked as a Red Coat agent in the San Francisco terminal with Delta.  During his time in San Francisco, he learned to fly privately and in 1965, the big hiring speer started with the airlines for pilots.  He went to Miami, Florida to apply with National Airlines and was hired September 29, 1965.  His career started with flying Lockheed Electra, 4 engine aircraft, then moved on to the Boeing 727's, McDonnell Douglas DC-8's and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10's.  Then, on January 07, 1980, Pan American Airways acquisition of National was completed, with Pan American World Airways taking over the National Airlines fleet and route network.  He and fellow pilots went to Toulouse, France to train and bring home the first four AirBus 300's adding to Pan Am’s fleet. Pan Am went on to acquire the AirBus 310 which Terry flew.  In 1991 Pan American went bankrupt and ceased operations in December 1991.  At that time Pan American transferred much of their assets to Delta Air Lines and Terry moved on to Delta Air Lines.  He flew the Boeing 757 and 767/767 ER, up to his time of retirement in February 01, 2001.
During his flying, he met the love of his life, Patricia Fowler, a flight attendant on a flight they were working together going to San Francisco. Two weeks later, he asked her to marry him and six months later they were married April 29, 1972 in Miami Springs, Florida.  They have flown all over the world and had the opportunities to live in Osaka, Japan, Bangkok, Thailand and Toulouse, France. They saw and enjoyed the world together.  They lived in Miami, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina, Kalispell, Montana and retired in Salado, Texas.
Terry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Crowell of Salado, Texas.  He is preceded in death by his father, Terry Crowell of Panama, his mother Willodean Crowell Babineau of Newnan, Georgia and grandmother, Lillie Davis of Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services for Captain Crowell will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
