Lee Alex Breeland Jr. - August 26, 1931 - April 26, 2024

Departed: 04/26/2024 (Canton)
Obituary Preview: Lee Alex Breeland, Jr. departed this earthly life to meet his Savior on the morning of April 26, 2024.
Lee was born on August 26, 1931, in Arcola, MS, the youngest of the six children of Lee and Kate Russell Breeland.
Lee contracted rheumatic fever while in high school in Isola, MS. He was unable to participate in sports, but ever the hard worker, he had many after school jobs. He chopped and handpicked cotton and was an excellent fisherman, often selling his catch to help provide for his family.
He also perfected peach brandy which he sold secretly to friends and neighbors. He attended the University of Mississippi, but his education was interrupted by the Korean War draft. He was stationed in England where he helped build an airport, and while there he witnessed the coronation of Queen Elizabeth.
Upon his return, he went to work at Gregory Funeral Home in Yazoo City. Realizing a call to assist those in their time of greatest need, he enrolled in the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Upon graduation, at the age of 27, he purchased the Canton Undertaking Company, which he remodeled and opened as Breeland Funeral Home on January 22, 1959. In October of that same year, he met the love of his life at the Lion's Club chicken noodle dinner. Not one to waste any time, he married Patricia Carwile on December 27, 1959. They recently celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary.
Over the next six years, Lee and Patricia welcomed three children, Donna, Alex, and Kathryn. In 1967, Lee opened a second business in Jackson and moved his family next door to the establishment where they lived for the next 30 years. Lee and Patricia then moved back to Madison County where he continued to work at the funeral home in Canton until his retirement in 2020.
Lee was very involved in his church, serving as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton, and then as an elder at Central Presbyterian Church in Jackson until its closure in 1993. Lee and Patricia were then welcomed into the fellowship of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. He was also involved with Belhaven College, serving for many years on the Belhaven Board of Trustees. He was also an active member of the Board of the American Funeral Association.
One of his favorite activities was managing his stock accounts. He gave sage advice to his children and grandchildren about the market. He continued to enjoy fishing until late in life, and was also an avid gardener, maintaining his large yard himself until the age of 90. One could often find him motoring about his yard on his favorite lawn mower. He loved big toys and for several years operated his own Caterpillar Bulldozer at his farm.
We are all very grateful for the many acts of kindness and prayers from our friends and also from the Briarwood Church community. The family would like to thank his many caregivers who assisted us in allowing him to remain home through this very difficult past 16 months.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Breeland; his three children, Dr. Donna Breeland Trussell (Hugh), Lee Alex Breeland, III (Sheila), Kathryn Grace Breeland; six grandchildren, Ashley Breeland Ward (Drew), Lee Alex Breeland, IV (Eden), Laurel Breeland Callahan (Ethan), David, Daniel, and Cameron Lee Trussell; and two precious great-grandchildren, Finley Breeland and Sutton Ward. Lee Breeland personified hard work and was a big believer in "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." We rejoice that he is now finally at rest.
Visitation will be at Breeland Funeral Home on Monday April 29, 2024 from 5 until 7 P.M. Visitation will also be at Briarwood Presbyterian Church Tuesday April 30, 2024 from 10 A.M. until the 11 A.M. funeral service. Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 620 Briarwood Drive, Jackson, MS 39211 or to Belhaven University, 1500 PeachtreeStreet, Jackson, MS 39202.

Sandra Kay Everett Norman - February 22, 1950 - March 13, 2024

Departed: 03/13/2024 (Canton)
Obituary Preview: Sandra Kay Everett Norman was the daughter of Mary and Sammy Everett of Greenwood, MS and sister to Rhonda and Steve Everett. She married Jerry Van Norman of Canton, MS and was blessed to be the mother of two children, Ashlea Norman Hamblin and John Patrick Norman. She was grandmother to seven. Ashlea and her husband Timothy have three children: Seth, Caleb and Lily Jayne. Patrick and his wife Elise have four children: David, Hannah, Elijah, and Noah.
Sandra and Jerry were happily married for 51 years. They lived, worked, worshipped, and raised their family in Greenwood and Jackson, MS before settling in Birmingham, AL in 1997. While in Jackson at Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church, Jerry and Sandra formed many long lasting relationships that remain special to this day, and her love of theology and God’s Word grew exponentially, until she was no longer satisfied by mere personal study but attended classes at Reformed Theological Seminary.
After moving to Birmingham, Sandra continued her work as an appeals officer for the Internal Revenue until her retirement in 2014 when she found the delight and joy of painting, weaving, and pottery. Her pottery work became a passion as she began selling her pieces for church benefits at St. Stephens Episcopal church as well as teaching. Teaching pottery was a new found and unexpected source of happiness as she made many dear friends in the process. A few years later, in God’s providence, her heart was turned to her grandchild, Lily Jayne, and teaching pottery turned to teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. She found an unexpected passion in teaching her granddaughter to love the things of the Lord and His creation, from the bees and flowers to the order of mathematics.
Sandra loved to cook for her family and make beautiful meals, especially for her husband. She couldn’t wait for spring when there were flowers to be planted and beach trips to plan. Her family rejoices that as of March 13 she walks through the garden with her Savior, but they can’t wait to see her again.
A memorial service was held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL on Wednesday, March 2024.  Sandra's mortal remains will be laid to rest in a graveside service in the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery, 759 Highway 51, Madison, MS at 12:30 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024.  The service is to be led by the Rev. Elbert McGowan, senior pastor of Redeemer Church PCA - Jackson.  Family and friends are invited afterward for light refreshments at the home of Patrick and Elsie Norman, 4771 East Massena Drive, Jackson, MS 39211.

Departed: 02/23/2024 (Canton)
Obituary Preview: On February 23rd, 2024, our beloved matriarch Lisa Williams Davis passed peacefully at Saint Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi. Though she may have left this world, her spirit lives on through her legacy of love and kindness. She was the living embodiment of grace, intellect, and empathy, leaving an indelible impression on virtually anyone who had the good fortune of knowing her. She was born on October 5th, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama to Robert and Sarah Williams. Her family then relocated to Jackson, Mississippi where she lived in Fondren. She excelled at school from a young age both academically and socially. She graduated from Murrah High School in 1957 then married at the age of 17. She then moved to Starkville, Mississippi with her husband, so he could complete his education at Mississippi State University. It was there that she developed her life-long love for the MSU Bulldogs and became True Maroon!
In 1960 she welcomed her first child and spent the decades to come as a devoted mother and wife. Typical to her personality she was fully engaged in her role as mother of three boys, and the wife of a rising business executive. She was involved in the PTA, Cub Scouts, and became a member of Briarwood Presbyterian church. She remained devoted to Briarwood her entire life eventually becoming an ordained Elder.
In 1980, at the age of 41, Lisa enrolled in Hinds Community College and began her dream of achieving a college education. She graduated in 1984 from Mississippi College with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting. She graduated with honors and received the Delta Sigma Pi award for the highest average in the School of Business. In 1998 Mississippi College School of Business awarded her Alumna of the Year.
Her excellence did not end in the classroom as she went on to achieve a highly distinguished career. She worked as a CPA, a Certified Financial Planner, and a stockbroker. In 1994 she was appointed to the Mississippi State Tax Commission as Associate Commissioner where she served for seven years.
Despite all her outstanding academic and professional accomplishments, nothing meant more to her than family. In 1998 she married Albert E. Davis where they filled their new home with love and laughter. They spent much of their retirement traveling the world and enjoying their love of history and culture. When they weren’t jet setting to a foreign country they were enjoying their home with the newly blended family. Lisa was a magnificent hostess, and it was a privilege to have a seat at her table. She leaves behind a vast and loving family, comprised of both blood relatives and cherished individuals whom she embraced as her own, each one a testament to the depth of her love and the richness of her legacy.
