Lucia N. Natale - October 15, 1972 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Raritan)
Obituary Preview: On October 15th 1972, Salvatore and Lidia Natale were blessed with their third child and second perfect little baby girl, Lucia Nunziata Natale. Her first name represents a dream Lidia had with St. Lucy when she was pregnant and Nunziata, the namesake of Lucia’s Nonna, her maternal grandmother.
Lucia became the baby of the bunch and the apple of many; she immediately brought so much joy to Salvatore, Lidia, big sister, Filomena, big brother, Joseph and eventually baby sister, Leeann. She truly was a little light, as her first name represents.
As life moved forward, Lucia became a best friend to many. She exuded qualities of strength, humor, respect, joy, focus, fun, empathy, and understanding. She was gentle, yet strong and fierce, pensive, yet outwardly smart. Lucia truly was the epitome of selflessness, beauty, thoughtfulness, generosity, unconditional support, and loyalty. To know Lucia was to love her and her stunning smile that lit up the dimmest room. Lucia managed to become a dedicated mother who knew no boundaries for her 3 babies, Steven Michael, Brianna Marie, and Lilianna Elle. Lucia was a devoted partner to her Anthony, who she loved without condition. She will always be a cherished sister to Filomena, Jimmy, Joe, Debbie, Leeann and David; a sister that completed every move her siblings made. Lucia’s in-laws, although they did not live close, loved her deeply and dearly as she did them. Lucia is a friend and cousin that led joyfully, loyally and generously. She was always willing to give an ear or shoulder to anyone enduring a hardship; she led with hope, guidance, and her heart fully invested. Lucia is a daughter who was touched deeply by the love of her parents, she reciprocated that love back, wholly. She was a conscientious, dedicated and well-respected employee of Merck & Co., Inc. for over 23 years. Her longevity with Merck led to her success and many promotional roles with her final stop in Finance and IT. Lastly, she was an incredible aunt that touched the lives of her nieces and nephews, including James and Colleen, Ryan, Salvatore, Benjamin, Alexander, Alyssa and Alex, Ashley and many of her best friends children that called her “Aunt Lucy.”
It is clear to see that Lucia had a deep love for her family and friends. She loved being a class mom, reading, the beach, vacationing with all her children, nieces, nephews and siblings. She was always willing to help those in need, shelter animals included. She took her health and physical fitness very seriously; her beautifully fit physique was a true testament to her commitment to the things that mattered most in life. She had a love for all genres of music, fashion trends and self-education. Lucia had a zest for life, yet a sharp sense of responsibility for those she held close to her heart.
The loss of Lucia in the physical sense is massive and felt by hundreds.
No words or gesture feels good enough for Lucia. She had a way, a way that has left so many broken because her presence and love so impactful. Crushing in one hand and a gift in another hand. God seemed to have a plan for Lucia and her health, one that is hard to accept, but her love and legacy will be carried on by all those who love her.
Rest well, beautiful Lucia. Donations can be made in Lucias honor to foundations close to her heart, in which her and her family donated to most annually -Somerset County Animal Shelter -Somerset County Food Bank -SHIP Foundation of Somerville -The Trevor Project -St. Jude -CHI: https://congenitalhi.org

Elsie Clara Blacher - August 20, 1932 - February 23, 2024

Departed: 02/23/2024 (Raritan)
Obituary Preview: On Friday, February 23, 2024 Elsie Clara Rudolph Blacher passed away at age 91. Born in Mount Green, Saskatchewan Canada on August 20, 1932, to German immigrants Ida Hilse and Richard Rudolph, she grew up on a farm where she worked picking fruit and hops, in addition to babysitting and waitressing to afford to follow her dream of traveling to the United States. In June of 1953 she achieved her goal taking a Greyhound bus from British Columbia, Canada, into Washington state. Elsie traveled across the United States all the way to the east coast to reside in Irvington, New Jersey with relatives. She took a job as a factory worker and met her future husband, Philip Blacher whom she married in 1954. They moved to Dunellen, NJ and started a family. Elsie proudly became a US citizen in June of 1959.
As a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, who always put her family first, she raised four children teaching and leading them by example to develop the character traits that made her so spectacular; independence, accountability, honesty, kindness, compassion and gratitude.
Her love for travel and adventure took her and the family across the United States - with a special love for the National Parks - and around the world to six continents, always embracing, enjoying and appreciating the cultures and cuisines of all the different lands she visited. With a love for music and the arts, she learned to play the violin, the guitar and the organ and made sure the family was exposed to both music and dance as part of their education.
She had a fabulous sense of style and was always a beautiful “Lady”, (who could rock a choker or a scarf and some leggings and boots like no other), enjoyed a good cup of coffee and the beauty of God’s hand in sunrise and sunset.
Her childhood roots gave her a love of the outdoors, nature, gardening, and animals. She was an advocate for the welfare of abandoned domestic animals, nursing and adopting a few strays along the way, including two beautiful and loving alley cats – Bull and Babe.
With stunning blue eyes, a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh and a keen sense of wit and humor she shared her life passions with all of us including her love for her freedom which she was always thankful for and never took for granted.
After raising her family, she worked as Vice-President of a very successful, woman-owned and -operated, family business, E-Z Roller Inc located in Gilbert PA for 22 years. Upon retiring from this business, she enjoyed keeping busy working as a greeter for services with Bongiovi Funeral Home in Raritan NJ.
Elsie is preceded in death by her mother Ida, father Richard, sister Louise and husband Philip. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Brigden, her four children Maurice Blacher, Katherine Young, Philip Blacher Jr. and Elizabeth Rifino, and their spouses; Bea Blacher, Jack Young, Kim Blacher and Jerome Rifino. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Jack, Curt, David and Katie and five great-grandchildren; Kiana, Hunter, Austin, Clark and Sloane. She was our angel on earth, and now she is our angel in heaven.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who knew them. They help to notify others of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a chance for loved ones to pay tribute to the person who has passed away.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with writing the obituary. The writer should be someone who knew the deceased well and can provide accurate and meaningful information about their life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations in lieu of flowers, and any other relevant information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for the publication fee.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered. This can be a unique opportunity for self-reflection and creative expression.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help celebrate the person's personality and spirit.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites. Local libraries or historical societies may also have archives of old newspapers that you can access.

Can I republish an obituary on social media or my personal website?

Check with the original publisher or copyright holder for permission before republishing an obituary. You may need to obtain permission or provide proper attribution.

What is an online obituary platform?

An online obituary platform is a website that allows users to create, publish, and share obituaries digitally. These platforms often offer additional features such as guest books, condolence messages, and photo sharing.

Are online obituaries free?

Some online obituary platforms offer free services, while others may charge a fee for publishing or additional features. Be sure to review the terms and conditions before using a platform.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

This varies depending on the platform. Some online obituaries may remain available indefinitely, while others may be archived after a certain period.

Can I make corrections to an already published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was originally published to request corrections. They will guide you through their correction process.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

Dont worry! Many funeral homes offer assistance with writing obituaries as part of their services. You can also consider hiring a professional obituary writer or asking a trusted friend or family member for help.

How soon after a person's passing should an obituary be published?

The timing varies depending on cultural and personal preferences. Typically, an obituary is published within a few days to a week after the person's passing.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes! Including information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers is a thoughtful way to honor the deceased and support a good cause.

What if I want to keep the funeral private but still want to publish an obituary?

You can indicate in the obituary that the funeral is private or by invitation only. This way, you can still share information about the person's passing while respecting your desire for privacy.

Can I publish multiple versions of an obituary?

Yes! You may want to publish different versions of an obituary in different newspapers or online platforms to reach various audiences.

How do I handle sensitive or confidential information in an obituary?

Omit any sensitive or confidential information that could cause harm or discomfort to surviving family members or others affected by the person's passing.

What if I'm unsure about what to include in an obituary?

Talk to your funeral director, a trusted friend or family member, or consider consulting with a professional writer for guidance on what to include in the obituary.

Can I update an existing online obituary with new information?

This depends on the platform's policies. Check with the online platform where the obituary was originally published to see if updates are allowed.
