Beverly May Weddle - May 11, 1937 - March 09, 2024

Departed: 03/09/2024 (Carleton)
Obituary Preview: Beverly May (Hildebrand) Weddle, age 86, of Newport, went home to meet Jesus on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Beverly was born at home in Flat Rock, Michigan to Alvin and Elma (Begeman) Hildebrand. She graduated from Huron High School with the class of 1955 and obtained her teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University. She taught school for 35 years, both in the Jefferson and Airport school districts and retired from teaching in 1999.
On August 6, 1960, Beverly married Kenneth Weddle Jr. at Faith Lutheran Church in Flat Rock, Michigan. They began their married life in the same house in Flat Rock where she had been born until they moved out to their farm in Carleton in 1963. There they raised four daughters and built a life and a legacy of love.
Beverly was devoted to her husband and children and was a farm wife in every sense of the word. She would bottle feed calves in the morning before she went to work, then mend fences and grease farm equipment afterwards. She was a fantastic baker and skilled cake decorator and made the world’s best apple pies. She also enjoyed gardening and was happiest with a ripe tomato in hand.
The family cabin near West Branch was Beverly’s “happy place”. She enjoyed relaxing by the fire with a good book and watching the deer and other wildlife along with the changing of the seasons through the picture window. This is where her monarch sanctuary was located, and woe to the person who tried to cut down the milkweeds! She and Kenny spent many happy weeks at the cabin after their retirement, and also enjoyed trips to Alaska, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
Beverly was an avid reader and instilled a love of reading in her children. She enjoyed shopping the clearance racks at Kohl’s and at Ollie’s, where she picked up countless “bargain”books to read. Beverly looked forward to her yearly shopping trips to Frankenmuth and Birch Run with her daughters, sisters, sisters-in-law and niece, Christi. She loved playing Euchre and Yahtzee and was still rolling the dice and adding up her scores in her last few weeks here on earth.
Beverly was a member of the Swan Boat Club, the NRA, and a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waltz, Michigan.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Carrie (Chuck) Ramsey, Caryn (Marshall) Jenkins, Cathy (Mike) Bergmooser and Christa (Chris) Carr. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Aubree (Isaac) Gregory, Madalyn (Josh) Royal, Michael Bergmooser, Carly (Cameron) Foster, Kyle Bergmooser, Lauryn Ramsey, Erica Bergmooser, and great-granddaughter Skylar Gregory. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Garner Leforce and sisters in law, Bobbie Hildebrand and Shirley Gagnon along with many nieces and nephews.
Aside from her family, Beverly leaves behind her dear friend and marathon Yahtzee partner, Bobbi Johnson, and her hairdresser and confidant, Matthew Duris, who made her look so beautiful every Friday afternoon. As the door to our farmhouse was always open, Beverly also leaves behind many “adopted” neighborhood children and dear friends of her daughters who looked at her as their second mom and knew they would always find a warm hug and a snack, or a cup of hot cocoa in the wintertime after a cold walk over for a visit. Beverly also leaves behind Casey, her dog and faithful companion over the past 9 years.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Weddle Jr., her parents, brothers Ronald and Donald (Marge) Hildebrand and sisters Donna Leforce and Alverene Gaynier.
Beverly’s daughters are grateful for the time that was gifted them to care for their mother in her home and would like to thank the staff at Elara Hospice for the compassionate care and support over the past few months, and to all of those who reached out with words of encouragement. Special thanks to Pastors Jeffrey Wade and Kyle Jones for their visits and prayers.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 15th, from 2pm to 8pm at Bobcean Funeral Home, 1142 Monroe Street, Carleton, Michigan 48117. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 28320 Waltz Road, New Boston, Michigan on Saturday, March 16th at 11am with Pastor Jeffrey E. Wade officiating. A luncheon will follow in the adjacent fellowship hall.

It was a fitting end to a life lived in pursuit of excellence, quiet wisdom, fastidiousness, gentleness and kindness in humble service to others and to His Savior. He didn’t “fight” with his pancreatic cancer, but rather lived with it and mitigated it as best as he could, with gratitude for every day he continued to spend with his wife, family and friends joyfully by his side. Those who were with him felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room as he passed through this world to the next, as they read Revelations 7:9-17 and Matthew 5:3-12.
Mark was born on February 17, 1950 in Wyandotte. He was part of his family business, US Storm and Sash from 1967-1989 and a Farm Bureau insurance agent from 1989 until his retirement in 2008. Upon retirement, Mark became an avid cyclist, averaging 20 plus miles a day. He loved to travel with his wife, including fulfilling a lifelong dream of driving the length of Route 66 in a red camaro. He also loved to visit his children and grandchildren, both near and far.
Mark was baptized and confirmed on the same day by the Reverend Daniel Richert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, New Boston in 1969. He was married to Joyce (Cook) on July 11, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waltz, where he faithfully remained a member until the end of his life and served as a trustee, an elder, school board member and youth leader. He was also a founding member of “The Young Adults”, a group that began in the early 1970’s, and although the group continues to be young after 50 years, this group continues to support, laugh, have fellowship together and remain friends to this day. It was there where Mark and Joyce met their friends of fifty plus years, Tom and Pam Schroeder. Mark joins Pam in heaven as Joyce and Tom wait patiently and joyfully for the day when pancreatic cancer, diabetes and all forms of disease, wars, greed and all sins are non-existent.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Troy & Irene Patterson, brother Ronald Patterson, brother David Patterson and brother Troy Daniel Patterson, and by Joyce’s parents Merle & Ella Cook.
He was blessed with and survived by his wife JOYce Patterson, sons Michael Patterson (Sonia), Samuel Patterson (Kristie), daughter Amy Helman (Bryan), grandchildren Seth, Madison, Daniel, Jackson, Joseph and Joshua, sisters Mary Lynn Dulecki (Jerry), Sandy Higgins, brother-in-laws Ronald Cook (Diane) and Dale Cook (Paula).
Mark received pastoral care from his cousin and dear friend, Tommy Patterson, his former pastor Kurt Taylor, current pastors Jeffrey Wade and Kyle Jones as well as his faithful friend Tom Schroeder. Mark believed that all of the people in his life as well as his earthly possessions were gifts from God to be cared for and attended to. Every person deserves love and respect and every possession has a rightful place and now Mark is enjoying the rightful place his Heavenly Father has prepared for HIM in Heaven thanks to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mark’s Heavenly Father has crowned him a saint, not through anything Mark has done, but in the forgiveness he has received from Jesus Christ. As we mourn, those of us who called Mark husband, Dad, Grampy, or friend are grateful for the earthly example of Jesus’ love he gave us and continue to hold on to the joy that can only come from Jesus.
The funeral service will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Waltz, Michigan on Saturday, November 11, 2023, with visitation from 9:30-10:30 am, and the service at 10:30 am.
Memorial Donations can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School.

John Philip Bell, MD - March 10, 1935 - May 30, 2023

Departed: 05/30/2023 (Carleton)
Obituary Preview: John Philip Bell, MD, was born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, on March 10, 1935, to Roland Bell and Margaret Anne Bell (Montgomery), and joined their family as the seventh child behind James, Gaius, Milton, Donald, Beulah, and Roland.
At age 14, he became deeply concerned about his need to be right with God, and accepted Christ as his Saviour while riding his bike back to school after coming home for lunch, while passing near the cross streets of Rumble and Nelson in Burnaby, BC.
After graduating from Burnaby South High School, John (known as Philip to his friends and family) went to university at the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then followed his brother, Milt, and uncles Jack and William, into the medical profession at the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in Los Angeles, California, where he graduated on June 9, 1961, and went into residency for Obstetrics and Gynecology at Los Angeles County Hospital and Kaiser Permanente, graduating in June 1966.
While visiting his dear friends Sam and Arlette Long from San Diego, he met Helen Jean Mick of Boscobel, Wisconsin on April 16, 1963, and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
The young couple moved to Anaheim, California, where Dr. Bell set up his solo OB/Gyn practice in 1968 and where he worked continuously while on staff at Anaheim Memorial Hospital and Martin Luther Hospital, among others, for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 60, in 1995. Throughout his career, Dr. Bell delivered thousands of babies and cared for generations of patients in his local community.
While living in Anaheim, Philip and Helen attended the Long Beach Gospel Hall with their sons, where they were an integral part of that assembly. Philip eagerly contributed to the activities of that assembly in all of its activities, from worship, gospel preaching, teaching the Word, and ministering to the needs of the Christians there.
Sons Stephen Roland and John Philip II were born in 1970 and 1973 and raised and educated in Southern California. After retirement, when it became clear that both boys were rooted in distant parts of the country, in the Seattle and Detroit areas, Philip and Helen moved north to Washington to be close to their son John and family, sister Beulah, and Philip’s aunt, Dr. Mary Winch. While in the Seattle area, Philip and Helen were active in the Clearview Gospel Hall much as they had been in Long Beach and continued their service to their church community.
Philip and Helen moved to Carleton, Michigan, in November, 2021 to be close to their son, Stephen, and his family, where their medical needs could be supervised more closely. Philip passed away after having lived there only for 18 short months.
No commentary on the life of Dr. John Philip Bell would be complete without remarking on some of his most defining values. He was unwavering in his faithfulness to his Lord and for things that were right and good. His consistent commitment to the Lord and His things, and His people leaves a powerful legacy as an example and an encouragement to many.
He was known for his kindness and having a soft heart for others. He was quick to see a need and do what was required to meet that need in a quiet, unassuming way.
He was often quick with a joke or a tease and was known to laugh until the tears flowed.
Philip was renowned for his warmth and was a friend to many wherever he would frequent; his neighbors, church family, hospital staff, the secret shoppers at Costco, and those who gave out samples there. He was beloved by the nurses who attended to him during several short stays at Beaumont Trenton Hospital. His last taste of non-hospital food was the cheeseburger bought for him by the wonderful nurses in the Surgical ICU, where they included him in their food run and had it made just as he liked it- cheeseburger, loaded- hold the onions.
Wherever he went, he was quick to strike up a conversation with any who would come by and consistently shared how important it was to “know the Lord” and to know where one will be in eternity.
He went to be with the Lord he served on May 30, 2023, at age 88. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and is survived by his wife Helen Jean Mick Bell, son Stephen Roland Bell, DO (Michelle), and their children Willem, Alex, Callum, Andrew, Lucy, and Caroline, and son John Philip Bell II (Beth Anne), and their children Kathryn, Philip, and Lauren.
His loss will be felt by many, and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Bobcean Funeral Home, Carleton Chapel on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Bobcean Funeral Home on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 12:00 pm. Dan Shutt will officiate the service. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.
