George Samuel Houston - November 29, 1935 - November 11, 2023

Departed: 11/11/2023 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: Littleton/LKG-
George Samuel Houston passed, suddenly and peacefully, on November 11, 2023 at VCU in Richmond, Va.
George was born on November 29, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the eldest of four children Vi, Jack and Peggy. Their parents, George and Minnie, were both from Northern Ireland. George graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn and proudly served in the US Army.
He worked as a delivery driver for most of his working life, both in Brooklyn and later in upstate New York. He retired from UPS after putting in over 25 years and 90,000+ steps!! After a well-deserved retirement George relocated to Lake Gaston, as did his sister Peggy and husband Dan Donochod and his late brother Jack and his wife Jean Houston. He has two sons; Richie of Lake Gaston and Daniel of South Carolina; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
George loved the lake and he really put down roots. He was a person who “never knew a stranger, just a friend he hadn’t met yet”, and he would make a point of meeting that friend! Throughout his life he was all about helping others and he always had a smile and a hug for all. His greatest accomplishment was serving 50 years as a volunteer fireman, both in the Wappinger Falls, New York and in the Roanoke Wildwood Volunteer Fire Departments. That wasn’t enough, he then joined the firehouse Auxiliary! Over the years he volunteered almost everywhere: on a First Aid Squad; at the Lakeland Cultural Arts Center; John 3:16, fundraising for the RWFD quarterly yard sales, he was also the weekly BINGO caller and much more. George cared deeply for the Littleton United Methodist Church of which he was a loyal member for many years. You could count on the fact that……….if there was an event or a need………. there was George!
Friends are invited to join the family as we honor George’s life on Friday, November 17th at the Littleton United Methodist Church, 105 E South Main St, Littleton, NC 27850. Visitation begins at 11 am followed by the Church Service at Noon.
