Vic was born on May 17, 1962, in Sun Valley, California, the son of Victor C. and Beverly (Verran) LaLonde. Vic worked as a caretaker and a handyman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with family and friends. Vic was a “Good Guy.”
Vic is survived by his son, Adam LaLonde, his step-daughter, Tabitha Bashlor, his grandchildren, Davin, Kayley, Ellanor and Brianna, his siblings, Debbie Roper, Robert LaLonde, Gary LaLonde, Bernard LaLonde, and Charles LaLonde, many nieces, nephews and very good friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony, his parents and his brother, Clifford LaLonde.

William "Bill" F. Caldwell - June 07, 1951 - April 05, 2022

Bill was born on June 7, 1951, at his grandparent’s home in North Branch, the son of Lloyd and Thelma (Hodges) Caldwell. Bill grew up in North Branch and was a 1970 graduate of North Branch High School. He proudly served his country for 9 years in the United States Army. On September 8, 1984, Bill married Kimberly Sweatland at the family home on Ward Road.  He retired in 2009 from the Lapeer County Road Commission, the North Branch garage as a grader operator. Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards and driving around the country side. Bill loved his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kim, his son Kyle Caldwell of North Branch, his son, Robert Caldwell of Germany and his daughter, Laura Biehn of Germany, his 7 grandchildren, his sister, Donna (Lynn) Gates, his brother-in-law, James Osborne, his brother-in-law, Greg (Barb) Sweatland, his nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Loraine Osborne and his brother, Dan Caldwell.
Visitation for Bill will be on Monday, April 11, 2022, 2:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, visitation will be 10:00 A.M.11:00 A.M. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald Hutchinson will officiate.  Military honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post #457.

Dolores Rose Griffin - August 29, 1937 - March 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: Dolores Rose Griffin, age 84, of Clifford passed away at McLaren Lapeer Region on March 29, 2022,  with her family by her side. Dolores was born on August 29, 1937, in Centerline, MI, the daughter of Henry and Alvera (Grobbel) Ruhlman. The Ruhlman family moved to North Branch in 1939, where Dolores grew up on Cedar Creek Road. She attended North Branch Schools and was a 1956 graduate.
Dolores married the love of her life, John Seth Griffin, on October 11, 1958 at St. Mary’s Burnside Catholic Church. She was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Altar Society, a volunteer at the North Branch Thrift Shop and a Religious Education teacher. She enjoyed her flower beds and bird watching. She loved her family and spending time with them especially with the little ones.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Seth; her children, Cindy  (Dan) Muxlow, John (Lisa) Griffin, Mary (Lyle) Jamison, Anne Marie (Dan) Stasa, Steve (Patricia) Griffin, Robert (Karie) Griffin, Richard (Kim) Griffin, Daniel (Juanette) Griffin, Dennis (Lindsay) Griffin and James (Lynette) Griffin; her 24   grandchildren; her 26 great-grandchildren; her sister, Gertrude Steele; her brother, Joseph (Joanne) Ruhlman; many nieces and nephews; her many friends and neighbors.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, March 31, 2022, 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Friday, April 1, 2022, visitation will be at 1:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. with rosary at 4:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Troy worked for Aristeo Construction, as a commercial union carpenter. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering on cars and traveling. He always was busy working with his hands building or repairing things. Troy was a hard worker and always had to be working on something. He couldn’t sit still.  Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends meant the world to him.
Troy is survived by his sons, Carter Adams and Blake Adams, his grandchildren, Wyatt, Harper and Aubree, his parents, Harold and Mary Jane Adams, his sister, Christine (Jim) Bologna, his brother, Asa (Julie) Adams, his nieces and nephews, his aunts, uncles and many cousins. Betty was born on October 17, 1931, in Lapeer County, the daughter of Glenn Frank and Mildred (Nelsey) Brown. She was a 1949 Lapeer High School graduate. On March 30, 1950, she married John Sutton in Lapeer. Betty worked at the Lapeer County Co-op, Lapeer Regional Hospital and retired from North Branch Area Schools as a cook. Betty was a very active and community minded person. She was a 4-H Leader, member of the Farm Bureau Home Extension, Order of Eastern Stars, Garden Club, Michigan Association of Retired Personal, member of the First United Methodist. Betty was a talented cook and baker. She enjoyed cooking full course meals for her family. Family meant everything to Betty
Betty is survived by her children, Larry (Julia) Sutton, Roger (Elizabeth) Sutton, Linda (Ken) Bader, Carol (Richard) Ellis, Glenn Sutton and Nancy (Randy) Richmond; her 15 grandchildren and  several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, her daughter-in-law, Colleen Sutton and her brother, Norman Brown.

Clayton "Art" Arthur Sutter - August 15, 1944 - March 19, 2022

Obituary Preview: Clayton Arthur Sutter, age 77, a lifelong resident of North Branch passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the  Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Health System.  Art was born on August 15, 1944 in Lapeer, the son of Clayton and Viola (Haslick) Sutter.  Art’s mother passed away when he was a young boy and he was raised by his grandmother. His dad later married Phyllis Brown, who became his step-mother. Art attended North Branch Area Schools and was a 1962 graduate.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors after 35 year. His true love was his farm. Art started his working day on the farm at sun up and worked until sun down.
Art married Judy Klauka at the First United Methodist Church.  He was a lifelong member of the North Branch First United Methodist Church and the North Branch American Legion. Art always enjoyed a good meal. He attended all the Klauka family holidays and events. Art enjoyed socializing with people and carrying on a good conversation.
Art is survived by his sisters-in-law, Joann Mason and Jean Holland, his brother-in-law, Robert (Joyce) Klauka; his cousins, Scott Sutter and Robert Bell; many nieces and nephews; his North Branch neighbors and friends.  Art is preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents, his step-mother, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Klauka and his brother-in-law, Herman Klauka.

Gyrome (Gerry) Lewis Edwards - June 13, 1951 - March 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gyrome “Gerry” Edwards age 70 of Davison, formerly of North Branch died peacefully at his son’s residence on March 10, 2022.   Gerry was born in Greenville, South Carolina on June 13, 1951 to his late parents Everette and Dorothy (Irwin) Edwards. He grew up in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, Michigan and was a graduate of Crestwood High School, Dearborn Heights, Michigan class of 1969.
Gerry is survived by his son Ryan (Trisia) Edwards, step-daughter Sommer (Dave) Dupuis, grandchildren Martina (Paul) Stewart, Merissa (John DiPillo) Edwards, Elizabeth Dupuis and Luke Dupuis, and daughters (in love) Kyrie’ McCormick and Olivia McCormick. Gerry is also survived by his siblings Roberta (Jay) Jerore, Randy Edwards, Rhonda (Craig) Forquer, and Gregory Edwards, along with several nieces and nephews.
For over 40 years Gerry provided a public service commitment to the citizens of the State of Michigan, more specifically the citizens of Lapeer County.  Gerry was a State of Michigan Building Official, Plan Reviewer, Building Inspector, Instructor, Fire Inspector, Fire Safety Plan Reviewer, and International Code- Fire inspector. Gerry Edwards was a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and an Emergency Medical Technician, with Hazardous Material Training. He has served as Thumb Area Municipal Services Vice President and the CEO of Liberty Land & Code Consultants.
A few of the responsibilities Gerry Edwards has undertaken in his Industrious life are: Columbiaville Village, Ordinance Enforcement; Otter Lake Village, Ordinance Enforcement; Dryden Village, Building & Zoning; Metamora Township & Village, Building & Zoning; North Branch Township & Village, Building & Zoning, Housing & Rental, Fire Marshal; City of Imlay City, Zoning; Mayfield Township, Building & Zoning, Fire Marshal; Rich Township, Building & Zoning; City of Davison, Zoning Board of Appeals and City Commissioner; Oregon Township, Zoning Board of Appeals; Deerfield Township, Building & Zoning; Elba Township, Building & Zoning.  In addition, Gerry served for many years with the Construction Code Authority as Building & Zoning Official and Supervisor of Services. The Lapeer County Construction Code Authority was Michigan’s first multi-jurisdictional authority created to provide services to over 29 communities in Lapeer, St. Clair and Genesee Counties, including building, zoning, electrical, plumbing fire prevention, HVAC, housing and regulatory ordinance administration.
Gerry loved people and social interaction.  He was willing to offer assistance wherever he could, especially with regards to his career knowledge.  He was very passionate about his yard work and keeping the grounds ornate and manicured just as his father had.  Gerry loved family, friends, and adventure and also loved his puppies Ryder and Liberty.  Some of his interests were hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, flea markets, antiquing, and motorcycle adventures.  He wasn’t here for a enough time, but was certainly here for a good time. He was also proud to be of the 2% population that did not have voicemail.
Visitation for Gerry will be on Friday, March 18, 2022, 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 4:00 P.M.   Pastor Keith Atwood will be officiating. Melissa was born in Rochester, MI, on October 7, 1971, the daughter of Daniel and Rosemary (Boyle) Murphy.  Melissa grew up in North Branch and was a 1989 graduate of North Branch High School. She was a proud Bronco cheerleader and nobody rocked the 80s big hair look better than she did. Melissa received her Bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan University and then went on to get her Master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University. She spent her career as a social worker and therapist. On September 29, 2018, Melissa married Joe Kozlowski Jr in North Branch, and always said it was the best day of her life. Melissa loved her friends and family deeply, and enjoyed spending time with them.
Melissa is survived by her loving husband, Joe; her stepchildren, Max and Alex Kozlowski; her mother, Rosemary Arnholt; her father, Daniel Murphy; her siblings, Maureen (Brian) Baker, Graham (Annika) Arnholt, Ryan (Devon) Arnholt, and Danielle (Jon) Murphy; her father-in-law, Joseph Kozlowski; the Kozlowski family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a wonderful aunt to Joe, Patrick, Adam, Ally, Brynn, Eliza, Maren, CJ, and Eliana, and a great best friend to Sherry Fricke.  She was preceded in death by her step-father, Michael Arnholt, all of her grandparents, and the best cat in the world, Olive.

Ruth Ann Richard - January 06, 1940 - February 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ruth Ann Richard, age 82, of Sterling Heights formerly of North Branch, passed away on February 25, 2022 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital with her family by her side. Ruth was born in Caro, MI, on January 6, 1940, the daughter of Frank and Jean Frances (McCloy) Nagy.   She graduated from Fairgrove High School in 1958. Ruth graduated from Bay City Junior College in 1960 as a LPN. She paid her own way thru college to earn her degree. She worked four years at Suncrest Hospital in Lapeer. While employed at Suncrest, a coworker mentioned that she had a single son, Frank Richard. She then ran into Frank while she was out with her girlfriends in Lapeer that would eventually become Lake Inn. They started dating and became engaged four months later. They were married on February 8, 1964 at the Fairgrove Methodist Church.
Ruth and Frank raised their family in North Branch, where they maintained the family farm, where her husband was born until 2019. She grew a large asparagus patch and would trade vegetables with neighbors. She enjoyed collecting coins, silver sets and jewelry, playing bingo and casino slots. She was a “vicious” euchre player and enjoyed trivia contests while living at Town Village Independent Living Facility. Ruth was an avid market investor and reader. She traveled and visited 23 countries.
Ruth is survived by her children, Frank J. Richard,  Francine (Robert) Ignasiak,  Frances (Michael) Stites and Rebecca Richard; her grandchildren, David Stites, Rachael Stites and Hannah Stites;  her siblings, Marian Chambers, Robert Nagy and William Nagy; her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2019, her parents, her siblings, Frances Nagy and James Nagy.
Memorials in Ruth’s name may be made to the North Branch Thrift Shop.

He grew in the Metamora area and was a 1991 graduate of Lapeer East High School.  On July 7, 2017, he married Candi Newton in Fostoria. He proudly served his country for 18 years in the Army as a CAV scout.  Paul enjoyed playing video games, rock picking, watching wrestling, but most of all he loved irritating his family. He loved his family and his country with all his heart.
Paul is survived by his wife, Candi; his children, Kaylie, Laura and Aaron; his grandson, Kollin ; his father, Herman Marotz; his siblings, Tina (Dave) Hill, James (Jennifer) Demotte and Tucker (Donna) Marotz; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.  He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.

She is the daughter of Clarence and Cindy (Holder) Sublett.  She grew up in both Arkansas and Michigan. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but most of all she enjoyed picking on her husband, Gary. She was a homemaker. She loved taking care of her family. Her family was the most important people in her life. Family time was very special.

Obituary Preview: Norman Haack, age 82, of North Branch passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at McLaren Flint Hospital with his family by his side.  Norm was born in Ann Arbor, MI, on May, 5, 1939, the son of Howard and Thelma (Reisen) Haack. He grew up most of his life in North Branch. On November, 12, 1960, he married the love of his life, Barbara White in Dearborn, MI.
Norm was a life- long crop and beef farmer. He produced potatoes for 54 years. He enjoyed riding his snowmobile and his side by side. He loved driving around in the 1990 GMC pick-up truck he restored.  Norm loved his family time, he had the best wife, daughter and son-in-law, grandsons and granddaughter in-law, a man could ever ask for.
Norm is survived by his wife, Barb, his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark Walker, his grandsons, Ryan Walker and Mitchell (Kelsey) Walker, his sister, Betty Ann (Dwayne) Schlaud, his brothers, Richard (Marion) Haack and Kenneth Haack, his nieces and nephews and many North  Branch friends. He was preceded in death by his parents,  his infant daughter, Karen Lynn, his infant brother, Paul Roy, his sister-in-law, Delores Haack and Suzie, his faithful lab.

Larry was born in Marlette, on June 26, 1960, the son of Tony and Shirley (Caldwell) Secson.  Larry was a country boy growing up on Cedar Creek Road. He attended North Branch Area Schools and was a 1978 graduate. He retired from the Lapeer County Road Commission, the North Branch Garage in 2015 as a grader operator. On March 12, 2004, he married Denise Schiebel in Las Vegas.
Larry was a member of the Eagles, in Mayville. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and driving the back roads. He was a people person always ready to chat with anybody. He always had a smile on his face. He loved his family time.

Dickie was born in Marlette, MI, on January 9, 1943, the son of Charles and Nellie (Forbes) Boyne. He grew up in the Caro area. On November 26, 1966, he married Sharron Gates in North Branch, MI.  Dickie proudly served many years in the Michigan National Guards. He retired from Buick.  Dickie enjoyed playing cards and anything to do with horses. He loved spending time with his family. He was a very respectful man, always willing to offer a helping hand. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Dickie is survived by his wife, Sharron, his son, Scott Boyne, his 6 grandchildren, his 1 great-grandson, his siblings, Joyce (Don) Moore, Mary Long, Janice Lancaster, Barb Diehl and Warren (Lillian) Boyne, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several other siblings.

Sharon was born in Flint, MI, April 25, 1942,  the daughter of Richard and Mildred (Williams) Harrington. Sharon grew up in Flint, MI and graduated from Kearsley High School in 1961.
Sharon married James Everett Bates on March 13, 1961 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his death, January 17, 2022.  Sharon was a foster parent for over 20 years and enjoyed reading. She loved to be outside working in the garden.  She had a passion for knitting and would knit daily.  Her knitted items were a favorite at local craft sales.  Sharon loved her yearly trips to Mackinaw Island with her family.  She walked or biked everyday (weather permitting),  and she would bike to her daughters every morning to help with homeschooling her granddaughters. She was famous for her family’s favorite No Bake Cookies.
Sharon is survived by her children, Kimberly (Frank) Wheaton of North Branch, Joel Lee Bates of Los Angeles, California and Pamela (Ben) Bates of Mayville as well as 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandkids and her sister, Annie (Tom) Martin of Clio, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bates (Jan.17, 2022) and her son, James Bates Jr. (2018), her 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation for Sharon will be on Sunday, February 6, 2022, 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M., at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. She was a crafty person. Jill could fix and repair anything that was needed to be done, even without a manual. Most of all, she loved being a mother and grandmother.

Obituary Preview: Darlena Rae (Olmstead) Bates,  (75) of North Branch left us unexpectedly of an aneurysm on January 27th, 2022. Ducker Road will never be the same without her.
Darlena (Dodd) was born on March 16th, 1946, the first-born child to Jake (Roy) and Bette (Blackburn) Olmstead in Pontiac, MI. She was big sister to Linda (Bovine), Jeanie (Burke), Becky (Lefler), Tracy (Pollina), and Mark Olmstead.
Dodd attented Kearsley High School in Flint where her love story with Billie Bates began in 8th grade. Dar and Billie married right after graduation in August of 1964 and were together for over 50 years until Bill’s passing in 2015. Together they had two children; Billie Bates II and Jodie (Brent) Miller, both of North Branch.
Dodd was the family matriarch. She was a born caregiver and had a hand in raising and guiding everyone in her family; first her siblings, and then as Bill was driving truck all week she had the kids. She was an incredible mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended all their school sporting events and was known for cheering them on with her megaphone and cowbell.
She adored and spoiled her grandchildren; Katie (Fricke) Richardson, Dalton and Dylan (Emily) Bates, Luke, Logan, and Lawson Rutledge. She found endless joy in spending time with her many nieces and nephews including; Eric Olmstead and his children, Natalie and Hailey, Michelle (Jason) Haight and her son, Brennan and Jennifer Olmstead and her children, Ava and Finn.
She had five great-grandchildren that she loved with all her heart; Raidyn and Ryker Richardson, Tucker, Blakely, and Bella Bates.
Dodd worked for Lapeer Hospital for over 28 years as a nursing aid, unit clerk, spending most of those years in the birth center helping deliver babies, including her youngest grandson.
Dodd enjoyed her retirement by spending time weeding her strawberries and many flower gardens, visiting with her five great-grandchildren, digging through a good sale rack, or chasing down a lost horse, dog, or pig! She loved to attend any type of show or play, and always topped off her fancy outfits with just the perfect hat!!! She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Dodd was known for her potato soup and goulash, helping strangers, bargaining, the best advice, weeding her flowerbeds, and going to plays. She will be deeply missed by all, including her best friend/cousin Jan Sabo, they were each others “person”. Dodd would strike up conversations with total strangers and she would talk your ear off. She was probably late but always worth the wait!
Dodd was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Bill and her nephew Cody Olmstead. "N" SO ANYHOW....I SAYS, you were right, we are going to miss you and WE LOVE YOUR GUTS!

He loved his cats, but especially loved spending time with his girls and grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by us all. He loved everyone and would talk to anyone. Raymond was great at making you laugh, he always had a smile on his face and had a good sense of humor.  Anyone who knew him always had a story or at least said he was a great man.  He was a great father, husband, grandfather, and he thought the world of all of us.  The world lost a great man. Thank you for all you did for the family.  We love you so much and can’t believe you’re gone.

He was a true Michigan fan “Go Blue!” He always looked forward to his and Sheila’s yearly trips to Sault Ste Marie.  He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Autumn and his grandsons. Scott always had a smile on his face and will be missed by his family and friends.

Scott proposed to the love of his life Lori and surprised her with an engagement ring at Christmas and they were happily planning their wedding and life together.

Morse is survived by his wife, Loraine, his children, Carol Arman, David Tackett and Maria (Jon) Brennan, his grandchildren, Hannah (Justin) Giles, Krista Arman and Lily Brennan, his sisters, Virginia, Bonnie and Oma and his brothers, Ray and Bud.
