ELOISE HARRIS - October 21, 1932 - February 21, 2019

Departed: 02/21/2019 (Monessen)
Obituary Preview: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall  run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31, KJV  In the early morning hours of February 21, 2019, before the break of dawn, Eloise Lomax Harris completed her  earthly journey. She peacefully entered into the loving arms of her Savior, going to her eternal home in the same  way that she lived -- in expectant prayer.  Eloise was born on October 21, 1932, to Orel Mernetter Beverly in Weir, Mississippi as the eldest of two siblings.  She was raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, Musetta and George Lomax, in Beloit Wisconsin, where she also  attended school. Blessed with a loving childhood, Eloise thought of George and Musetta as her parents. She was  reared in a strong Christian home and accepted Jesus as her Savior as a youth at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Beloit.  This strong foundation and love for Christ became the cornerstone of Eloise’s entire life. She loved the LORD and  everyone who knew HER knew THAT!  As a teenager, Eloise relocated to Pittsburgh, PA to live with her mother, Mernetter. After a while, she met and  married Paul S. Harris, Sr. in August 1951. This union was blessed with seven children. Her Family was very  important to her. She loved her family! She looked forward to all family gatherings – birthdays, holidays, cookouts  and especially family reunions through the years. She stressed the importance of the family sticking together.  Eloise was a Caregiver at heart. Her primary profession was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the Veteran’s  Administration hospital in Pittsburgh. Born out of her caring spirit, she lovingly cared for patients at the VA  hospital for ten years, until illness caused her employment there to end. With her work not yet done, she became a  Caregiver for the family of Dr. and Mrs. D. Martin in Penn Hills for several years, where she developed a loving  relationship with the children in her care. Her final caregiving assignment was to return to Beloit to live with her  mother, Musetta. Eloise gratefully cared for her mother for several years until the LORD called her home on New  Year’s Eve, 2002 at the blessed age of 100 years old.  Eloise was a true servant of Christ. She was a choir member and usher; she faithfully attended church services, and  loved Bible Study and reading her Bible. Most importantly, she was a well-known Prayer Warrior and evangelist.  In her senior years, she earned the title ‘Mother Harris’ at her church. Family, friends, church members and others  could call on Mother Harris at any time to pray for them. She was a compassionate listener and always had a kind  word and an exhortation to give about trusting God for any situation. When someone would tell her a concern, her  response was often “Let’s pray about that right now.” And she would pray fervently on the spot. As a witness for  Christ, she would often advise people to trust Him and accept Him as Savior. She didn’t want anyone to risk leaving  earth without Christ. She had several favorite scriptures and used them wisely to minister both to herself and to  those in need of a Word from the LORD.  Eloise was preceded in death by Paul S. Harris, Sr., her parents, Mernetter Beverly, and George & Musetta Lomax,  sister Alfreda Thompson, son Cornell Harris and daughter Eloise Teresa Harris.  She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Debra L. Harris, Reverend Paul S. Harris Jr. (Carla), Bruce  Harris (Joyce) of Silver Spring, MD, Rodney Harris, Lisa Harris of Fredericksburg, VA, Philip Knight, and Kara Jackson of  York,PA.  16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, and many other relatives and friends. Eloise has truly mounted up with wings like an eagle and is in His  Presence, rejoicing. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who love her and were touched by her life.

WILMA JEAN KEYS - November 29, 2018 - November 27, 2018

Departed: 11/27/2018 (Monessen)
Obituary Preview: Wilma Jean Bass Keys, 80, of Monessen, PA entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2018 at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Monongahela, PA.  The daughter of the late Bishop J. E. Bass, Sr and the late Mary V. Watts Bass of Monessen, PA,   she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Keys, Sr., a brother, Lloyd Dwight Bass and her beloved son, Ronald Keys, Jr.
As a registered nurse for over 40 years, a natural calling befitting her caring and diligent manner, she trained at West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA and subsequently served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, commissioned by then President John F. Kennedy. Her vast nursing experience has included time at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, DC,  West Penn Hospital, the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and the Mon Valley Health Center in Monessen. She ended her nursing career at Monongahela Valley Hospital, working first on the medical-surgical unit and subsequently retiring from the Behavioral Health unit in 2004. Her reputation as a no nonsense stickler for perfection and excellence, while providing unerringly passionate care, was well known among her many medical colleagues and patients.
It was while she was employed at West Penn Hospital that she met and fell in love with a co-worker, Ronald Keys, Sr., who became her husband. With this man, whom she has described as her best friend and love of her life, she created a home first in Pittsburgh, PA.  Later, they moved to Monessen and raised three children. Wilma wanted everyone to know what a wonderful, caring husband Ron was, and  how he did all he could to make her life easier.  As parents and partners, they consistently modeled values of loving commitment, faithfulness, devotion, a strong work ethic, unity and stability, quietly setting the expectation that their family was limited only by the altitude of their dreams.
“Mother Keys,” as she is affectionately known by her Gate of Heaven Church family, was a devoted and faithful member, serving in various capacities from church mother to her role as Chairperson of the Church Health Ministry.  The latter included establishing a “Body and Soul Program” for the church, as well as working with the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society in developing healthy heart initiatives and reducing risks of cancer. She also participated in the Highmark Learning Collaborative, which consists of 50 churches in the Pittsburgh area promoting health initiatives, including blood pressure screenings and seminars on colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and diabetes, and healthy eating.
Mother Keys loved her church family and her Pastor William C. Bass, Sr. She was very active in the Ministry.   As the oldest member of the church, she was loved and respected by everyone. She served as the Chairperson of the Church Anniversary Committee, and she coordinated the annual Church Christmas Celebration.  She established a “walking prayer” at the church to promote heart health and spiritual growth. Mother Keys was a mentor to the young women of the church and served as a role model. She remained faithful in spite of her failing health.
Wilma possessed an aura of unusual intelligence, humor, grace, kindness, faith, forbearance and courage, beloved by those who came to know her and were touched by her life. She was immensely proud of and doted upon her grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She was also an avid reader, lover of good game of Scrabble and devoted fan of “Jeopardy”.
During the last year of her life, she resided with her sisters, Ruth and Izetta Bass, aided by her youngest sister Doris Bass Wade, all of whom provided outstanding, loving and devoted care for which Wilma frequently expressed gratitude.

The family wishes to extend special gratitude to Drs. Ashok Jain, Sudha Nayar, Barry Tonkonow, Michael Nathanson and Gene Manzetti as well as the Nursing Staff of Mon Valley Hospital for outstanding medical care delivered with such concern, compassion and diligence. For over thirty years, she was a member of the Trustee board and held many positions including President Emeritus.  Although she never officially held the title of church pianist, Beatrice was the "relief" pianist and organist for many years. Along with her husband, Bea was instrumental in the reconstruction of the church after it was destroyed by fire in 1955. The family contributions include two pews, a stained glass window, the lectern, an offertory table, the choir chairs, bibles, the kitchen sink and stove, an ambulatory walkway and inside ramp and innumerous hours of labor.           She successfully completed her education in the public schools of Belle Vernon and Charleroi, PA.  The Monessen Redevelopment Authority formerly employed her as the Assistant Social Director.   She was a charter member of the State of Pennsylvania’s Nutrition Aides.  While working in this capacity, she was the compiler of, ‘Everyday People Cookbook’, which was published in 1973.    She touched the lives of many children of many generations in the capacity of Girl Scout leader and a Teacher’s Aide for the Monessen Public School System.   Also, she worked for many years in the Monessen Elementary School’s Grandparent Program.      Bea was a member of the Meals-On-Wheels Executive Board, past president of United Church Women of Monessen, past president of the Mon Valley Senior Action Council of the Southwestern PA, Area Agency On Aging, Inc., and a former member of the Monongahela Valley Branch of the NAACP.         Fraternally, she was a member of Star of Bethlehem Chapter #34, OES-PHA. GARY CLEMENTS - June 29, 1955 - September 29, 2018

Departed: 09/29/2018 (Monessen)
Obituary Preview: Gary Clements, 63 of Daisytown pa was born to Winston and Edna Catherine Clements on June 29, 1955 at Brownsville hospital, Brownsville Pa…after being diagnosed with lung cancer…he left this world to be with the Lord on Saturday September 29, 2018…
A brother, loving father to Jason Gary Clements.  He was a jack of all trades…from home repairs to fixing just about anything when it came to cars and numerous other things.
Gary is preceded in death by his loving parents, Winston and Edna Clements.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his lifelong companion, Ruth Karasko.
His son Jason Gary Clements of Daisytown Pa, Belinda (Mike) Jones of Campbell Ohio, Darrell Clements of Denbo Pa, Winston (Julie) Clements of Daisytown Pa, Yvonne (David) Driver of Belle Vernon Pa, Derrick Lee Clements of Washington Pa, Bridgette K (Anthony Marcus) Law of Donora Pa, Duanyele Katherine Clements of Daisytown Pa, Vincent (Rapunzel Stephens) Clements of Winter Garden Florida.
NOW I’M GOING TO CUT THE CHASE... THIS IS NOT AN AD FOR A PAWN SHOP, BUT AN OBITUARY FOR A GREAT Man, brother, dad, uncle.  He was world renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it is…he always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. He loved four letter words as much as he loved being a jack of all trades from household repairs…fixing cars and numerous other things and trust me he loved to eat…and if it wasn’t made right…he’d immediately let you know about it…
He had nicknames for all of his siblings…just to mention a few…Kat was referred to as “Reverend”, Yvonne was “Farah”, and Bridgette was “Coochie” and a few other names which  I won’t mention…Winston was “Big Dummy”…Not sure what he called Darrel and Ricky/Derrick…probably something profane…but I won’t go there.
He absolutely adored all of his nieces and nephews especially the babies and they are extremely fond of him…while in his presence he loved picking at them at all the times…but I think Erika experienced the extreme wrath of his picking…and she gave it right back to him. He loved when she would sneak red lipstick and put it on…I can’t mention what he would say when she would emerge from the bathroom all decked out in her makeup…she was very small…three years old to be exact…but knew exactly how to apply it, and that would amaze him at how perfect she did it… Before and during his illness…Gary always requested to see little Iyarra “Izzie”…simply because she reminded him so much of his loving mother… All whom loved him dearly and will never forget his tenacity, wit, charm and abrasiveness and undying love and caring for them…
