Karen Ann Macha - December 20, 1948 - January 02, 2023

Departed: 01/02/2023 (MOSINEE)
Obituary Preview: Karen A. Macha, 74, passed on 1/2/2023 surrounded by her loved ones, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Karen was a hard-working farm girl. She grew up on her family’s farm, helping her father Floyd, baling hay, milking cows, and cleaning stalls. Her mother Romana was a homemaker, who cooked, cleaned, and fed her family with meals made with love.
If you were lucky enough to know Karen, then you knew she loved her family unwaveringly. She often said her family was her greatest accomplishment.
Her second pride and joy was her kitty Imala, her companion and buddy. Karen loved her so.
When she had her health, she spent as much time as possible making memories with her children and grandchildren. Great memories included camping and fishing with her oldest grandson, setting up lemonade stands with all of them, tea parties, and sleep overs. She loved music, nature, trees, and summer nights. Fireflies and singing frogs were music to her ears.
She left us all with beautiful and meaningful memories. She was quick with her wit and smiles came easy to her. To know her was to know hearty laughter and love.
Karen is survived by her children, Troy Greeley, Colorado Springs, Todd (Jamie) Greeley, Fox Crossing, Angela (Erik) Schroeder, Wausau, and Monica (Chris) Smith, Mosinee; grandchildren, Ethan, Kobe, Kiran, Satori, Phoenix, Savannah and Madison; and a great-granddaughter Elleri.

Henry, most commonly known as Hank, was born in Wausau and his family moved to Chicago shortly after. He and his brother Richard started working at the young age of eight to help save money to move back to Wisconsin. Hank worked until he was in his late 70’s as a logger, which was a lifelong passion. He enjoyed going to work in the woods, and recently even dreamt about it, mentioning that he wished he could go out to work in the woods again.

When he was in his 50’s he learned to golf, which became a new hobby that he enjoyed with Lorna, and they often invited others to join them.
Hank enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He always made sure they had fun, doing things like playing with minnows, learning to ride bikes, taking walks, having cookouts, and catching up on what they were doing in their lives.
He was an avid reader and spent a lot of time doing crossword puzzles and reading the newspaper. Hank cared deeply about others. He would help anyone, anyway he could, when he was able.
Survivors include; his wife Lorna Mae, children; Lynne Allen, Jeff (Lorraine) Mulder, Gina (Greg) Volkman, and Hank (Kelly) Mulder, grandchildren; Jessi (Lance) Coppadge, Josh (Lisa) Mulder, Jake Mulder, Bonnie (Mike) Voelker, Bob (Rachael) Allen, Brandon (Lindsay) Allen, Melissa (Mike) Wheaton, Matthew (Beth) Mulder, Sabrina Mulder (Cameron Eller), Lauren (Riggs) Repking, and Nick Mulder; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, sisters; Carol Dziak, Charlene (Thomas) Dulak, and Sharon Chapman.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a way for loved ones to pay tribute and express condolences.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member, close friend, or funeral home staff member. In some cases, a professional obituary writer may be hired to craft the notice.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, burial location, and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 100-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some newspapers allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the notice and help readers remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may have online forms or email addresses for submitting obituaries.

Can I write my own obituary?

Absolutely! Many people choose to write their own obituary as a way to ensure their life story is told accurately and in their own voice. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life accomplishments and experiences.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed notice that provides additional biographical information and often includes a photo.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Yes! An obituary can be a great opportunity to share funny stories or memorable moments from the person's life. This can help make the notice more engaging and celebratory.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, yes. If you notice errors or omissions in the published obituary, contact the newspaper or online platform directly to request corrections. However, this may not always be possible.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may charge by the word or line, while others may offer package deals or flat fees.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes! Many online platforms specialize in hosting and sharing obituaries. These websites often offer features such as guest books, condolence messages, and photo galleries.

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be searched in person.

Can I reuse an existing obituary for another purpose?

If you're planning a memorial service or celebration of life at a later date, you may want to reuse the original obituary as part of the program or display. Be sure to obtain permission from the original author or publisher first.

What if I need help writing an obituary?

If you're struggling to write an obituary or need guidance on what to include, consider consulting with a funeral home staff member or professional obituary writer. They can provide valuable assistance and support during this difficult time.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

How do I share an online obituary with others?

Most online platforms provide easy sharing options via social media, email, or messaging apps. You can also copy and paste the link into a message or post.

What if I want to keep the funeral private?

If you prefer to keep the funeral or memorial service private, you can still publish an obituary without including details about the service. This allows friends and acquaintances to learn of the person's passing while respecting your wishes for privacy.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to honor their loved one's memory and support a worthy cause.

How do I handle mistakes or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary?

Contact the newspaper or online platform directly to report any errors. They will work with you to correct the mistake as soon as possible.

What if I'm not comfortable writing about my loved one's cause of death?

You're not obligated to disclose sensitive information about your loved one's passing. Focus on celebrating their life and accomplishments instead.
