Deb was a committed public service servant with 35+ years of experience, passion, and dedication in human services. She worked with various non-profits and for-profits, focusing on building independence and self-sufficiency in the clientele that she served. Deb was the consummate caregiver… always there to support, encourage, advocate and follow up with her clients.
Deb was truly merciful and compassionate with anyone she came in contact with that was hurting. Her unconditional love left an indelible imprint on every life she touched. She attended Nothing But the Word Deliverance Church in Florence, New Jersey, under Apostle Patricia A. Phillips. When she moved to Delaware, she attended Through the Word Bible Church under Pastor David & Bernadette Mills for ten years until the Holy Spirit directed her to return to Nothing But The Word in Florence, New Jersey.
One of Deb’s biggest and most impactful accomplishments was Kingdom Connectors, Inc., a non-profit she birthed to provide resources and advocacy to those underserved populations in need, especially issues surrounding Mental Health and its impact on Youth.
Deborah leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, a sister, Phyllis Matthews; a half-sister, Linda Gibbs (Eugene); a brother, Phillip Matthews, Jr.; four nieces, Francine, Chasity, Selena and Taylor; four nephews, Michael, James, Nation, and Stanley; an aunt and uncle, Mary White and James Matthews; a devoted cousin, Charlene Ray; Vanessa Webster’s children, (whom she was a second mother to), Tamika, Timothy, Tina, Terhan, Travis, and David; and a host of other cousins, friends and relatives.

Shawn work various jobs throughout the years. She loved helping people and giving legal advice. She enjoyed going to the casino, shopping, traveling, attending family events, and drinking Mountain Dews. Shawn’s absolute favorite thing to do was spoiling her goddaughters, Donteshia Lewis, Allayah Chambers, Markeya Chambers and Nevaeh Pointer.
Shawn was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel Watson, II; grandparents, Nathaniel Watson, Henry Pollard, Sr., and Peggy Pollard; and her brother, Michael Kressman.

Donald lived life his way; keeping it simple. Nothing pleased him more than to spend an afternoon surf fishing at Fowlers Beach or playing a few rounds of golf with his best friends Bobby and John Kemper . He loved fishing, his family, and, being an ace mechanic. He loved working on cars and equipment of any kind.
Donald was a generous soul who would give anyone the shirt off his back if necessary. Donald had a wonderful sense of humor and could brighten a dark day with his off the wall jokes and pranks. Although he will be sorely missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. To quote him; you either like me or you don't.
Donald leaves behind his sons, Charles (Jessica); granddaughter, Syli, Donald Rogers, Jr.; Christopher Pechin and children Ashleigh and Olivia; his daughters, Shannon Rogers, Alyson Capiga (Jen), his brothers David (Louann), Johnny; sisters, Carol (Don), Mary (Razz), Cassie and Debbie; and his dear friends, Reggie and Viki Brown.. rest in peace now.....

Gerald O. Hawkins - April 23, 1940 - April 01, 2023

Obituary Preview: Born on April 23, 1940, Gerald Oswald Hawkins was the first-born child of Catherine L. Hawkins.  Affectionately known as “Tony”, Gerald held a unique bond with his mother.  Often the pair seemed more like best buddies than mother and son, sharing similar interests in music and sports.  Gerald was an avid sports fan and staunch supporter of Washington, DC football, baseball and basketball teams.
Gerald enlisted in United States Air Force before completing high school and later was honorably discharged.   With a desire to complete his high school studies, he enrolled and graduated from the Spingarn Stay Program in 1966, and shortly thereafter began his 31-year career with the US Postal Service (USPS). During his USPS career, Gerald held various positions – clerk, acting supervisor, special delivery messenger, 5-ton truck driver, bus driver and mail handler.  He received USPS safe driving awards for multiple years.
Gerald enjoyed the night shift with USPS which allowed him more flexibility for daytime hours.  He obtained his CDL, class B and class P license which allowed him to work as a limousine driver and drive a school bus for Montgomery County Schools, while working fulltime for USPS.
As a young adult, Gerald played a major role in the lives of his younger siblings, assisting with their care given their mother’s disability.  His interest in advising and supporting others was not limited to his siblings.  Gerald loved mentoring and advising the young people around him.  He freely shared his advice and guidance.
In retirement he enjoyed one of his favorite past times – horse races.  He moved to locations to be near a racetrack -- residing in Laurel Maryland, near Laurel Park, West Virginia (near Charlestown Races) before settling down in Newark, Delaware (near Delaware Park Casino and Racing).
Gerald was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dalan Plummer.
Gerald leaves behind a son, Derek Lee Plummer; daughters, Michelle Plummer and Monica Plummer; three grandchildren, Tashea Plummer, Madison Plummer and Latoya Plummer; one great-grandson, Jaxon Plummer; his brother, Edward Freeman Hawkins (Anita); sister, Janice Mae Hawkins; nephews MIkhel E. Hawkins (Kamali) and Mikhia E Hawkins (Shakeya); nieces, Dominique Hawkins and Tanya Lee-Carrico; life-long special friend, Catherine M. Hawkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Royce was born to Royce and Fannie Brown in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 10, 1967. He grew up in the Southbridge neighborhood of Wilmington and obtained his education through the Christina School District.
Royce loved his family and community.   After years of being absent, he returned with the focus of reconnecting and building strong relationships with them. This focus resulted in him adopting the belief of the Five-Percent Nation and the associated identity of “Anwar”.  Royce also became a brother of the Masonic fraternity.
Family and community were primary passions of Royce.  He also developed a passion for Avionics and began feverishly pursuing it as a career.  He earned a certification in Avionics and licensure as an airplane mechanic.  Royce additionally enjoyed hobbies of woodworking and working on cars.
In addition to being passionate and firm with his beliefs, Royce was a caring, warm, and compassionate husband.  The positivity he would offer, his unique phrases, antics and hearty laugh will be remembered by all that knew him.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents Royce and Fannie Brown, paternal and maternal grandparents; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Royce leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memory, his wife, Latisha Brown; children, Royce Brown, Jr.; stepdaughter, Natisha Hairston; sisters, Tawuana Brown, Keisha Brown and Kayla Oliver; brother, Ira Brown; nephew, D’Andre Brown; devoted cousin, Rodney Sykes; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Wright; bonus brother, Darryl Handy; a host of additional extended family and friends; and last but not least, his “Fur”ever faithful companion, Chance Brown.
Royce will be missed more than words can say. Royce always said, “I am a man with many faults, yet I am on a constant path to become a better man and heal the tears that I had placed in the universe”.

Curtis N. Lloyd  was affectionately called “Curt” or “Buck” by his family and friends, whom he loved spending time with.  He was very intelligent and knowledgeable. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about childhood, family and the good ole times and days. His memory was impeccable.
Curtis received his early education from New Castle County Public Schools and graduated from Brandywine High School. In his spare time, Curtis enjoyed playing spades, dominos, and listening to all types of music. Two of his favorite groups were “New Edition” and “N.W.A”. Curtis was an avid sports fan of the Eagles and Golden State Warriors. He loved the game of basketball, “Curt had a crazy left-hand layup!”
In addition to his parent, Curtis was preceded in death by one brother, Nathan Waters.

Obituary Preview: Sergeant SP5 Perry A. Henry 76 years completed, transitioned peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Christiana Hospital, Newark Campus. He was born on August 27, 1946, the youngest child of Mary E. Henry, and Frank D. Henry, Sr.
Perry graduated from Louis L. Redding High School, known as a Maverick and one who excelled in French. He loved his electronics and gadgets.
Perry was a Vietnam War Veteran who served our Country with honor, bravery, and respect. He received numerous medals and commendations for a job performed above and beyond.
After serving in Vietnam, Perry was employed with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Maryland where he received several outstanding employee certifications for a job well-done.
He loved landscaping, farming, fishing, playing chess, and watching football until he discovered who the owner of his favorite team supported. He also loved to talk and voice his opinions daily regarding current events and especially politics; to say he was well versed would be an understatement.
Perry leaves to honor his memory, a host of dedicated nieces, nephews; a caring sister-in-law, and a half-brother.
In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Jr., George, John, James, and sisters, Florence Marie Robertson, Mary Kathleen Brady, and Cora Elizabeth Cherry.

Gwen received her early education at Highlands Elementary School. She graduated from Wilmington High in 1976. Gwen continued to further her education at Dawn Career Institute, graduating, at the top of her class with honors in medical billing. She became employed at MBNA, before realizing her passion was early childhood development. Gwen then spent her time and love watching her great nieces and nephews. During this time, Gwen developed memories and bonds only a loving Aunt could give, spoiling each one of them.
Gwen loved spending time with her church family at Faith City Family Church.  She enjoyed attending Bible study and singing in the choir. She also had a passion for reading a good book.
Gwen was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Anderson, and brother, Gregory Anderson.
Gwen is survived by her mother, Shirley Anderson; two sisters, Lenora Webb, and Monica Anderson; nephews, Sherman Shelton, Jr, and Marc Anderson; two nieces, Shana Shelton and Katie Nichols (Gerald); great-nephew, Austin; nieces, Nailah Shelton, M’kayla Nichols, Genesis Shelton, Kaleigh Nichols, and Genova Nichols; close family, Tammy, Ron, Takira, and Brianna Green; along with a host of other extended family and friends.
