Jan graduated from Guilford High School in Rockford, IL, where she was the only freshman cheerleader who could do a roundoff into the splits. She worked at The Sleep Inn Hotel of Rockford, IL where she was adored by the owners and guests. Jan enjoyed reading, thrift shopping, decorating, and spending time with her family. She attended Sunday church with her mom, brother, and sister-in-law, had bi-weekly brunches with her mom and daughters, and often had to get off the phone with one daughter to answer the other one’s call. Jan was the type of “flana,” “amah,” and “grandmie” that couldn’t say no, and her grandchildren knew it. She cherished her friendships so deeply that most of them lasted a lifetime. Jan is loved and will be deeply missed by her mother, Norma Gundersen; daughters, Cassandra, Megan, Hannah, and Dana; eight grandchildren; sister, Faith (Sam) Clay; brothers, Dave (Beth) Hugdahl, Doug (Connie) Hugdahl. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack; step-father, Tom; son, Matthew. Jake grew up in Belvidere, IL attending Immanuel Lutheran and graduating from Belvidere North High School in 2011. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Allen and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during his senior year of high school. He served on the USS Eisenhower from 2011 to 2015. He completed two deployments in the Persian Gulf as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Jake was currently employed by the Chrysler Jeep plant in Toledo, OH. Jake will be missed for his witty comments and his unwavering support of everyone in his circle. He was very generous with his time and resources to encourage and be there for his family and friends. He was just as comfortable talking to an elderly lady at his church as he was drinking a beer with his buddy at a bar. He loved snowboarding, cooking, traveling, music, and movies. Our comfort is knowing that he will be spending eternity in heaven. During the Lenten season of 2021, Jacob renewed his relationship with Jesus and served at Pilgrim Church of Toledo, OH. Obituary Preview: Gerald R. “Skip” Peterson, M.D., 85, of Belvidere, IL passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.  He was born on April 6, 1936, on the family farm in Wyanet, IL to the late Roger and Elizabeth Peterson. He married the love of his life, Mary Floyd, on September 19, 1959, in Bourbonnais, IL. Skip attended University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana and graduated from University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1961. He moved to Belvidere in 1962 to join Dr. Gordon Kaske in general practice. Skip proudly served his country in The United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he completed a cardiology fellowship at Rush Presbyterian St Lukes in Chicago. In 1972 he co-founded Rockford Cardiology with Dr. Robert Harner. During his medical career, he served as OSF St. Anthony’s Chief of Medical Staff. Skip was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Sister Cities of Belvidere (past president) and Belvidere Noon Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow). He enjoyed fishing, family trips to Canada each summer, deer hunting on the Turner farm and pheasant hunting with his sons, as well as harvesting antelope and elk for the Elks Club game dinner. Above all, Skip’s biggest joy was his family. He is loved and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Mary; children, Julie Grace (Mark) Hepworth of Rockford, IL, Susan (Rick) Burrow of Fargo, ND, Dr. Joe (Annick) Peterson of Elroy, WI, Dr. John (Ashley) Peterson of Spokane, WA, Jim Peterson of Bloomington, IL, and Dr. Jane (Dr. Dan) Kattenbraker of Elroy, WI.  Skip was adored by his eighteen grandchildren, Elizabeth (Luke) Barnet, Maureen (Mike) Hamachek, Noel Burrow, Mary (Joe) Drumm, Molly Burrow, RJ Burrow, John Paul Burrow, Sophie (Trey) Ruefle, Emilie (Cliff) Frazee, Daphnee (Nick) Hope, Chloe (Scott) Dieste, Maggie Peterson, Katie Peterson, Jordan Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Abigail (Christian) Moring, Owen Kattenbraker, Luke Kattenbraker; twelve great-grandchildren.
