Stephen Joseph Szabo - December 31, 1941 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (McMurray)
Obituary Preview: Age 82, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 31, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, to Margaret and Stephen Szabo.
Stephen’s early life was humble and austere. He lost his father in a coal mining accident when he was 3 years old. As a young boy, he worked odd jobs to help support the family. His mother later remarried James Hazy, who became a loving father to Stephen and his sister.
Stephen’s boyhood dream was to become a pilot. However, at age 16, he was badly wounded in a near fatal airplane crash causing him to be hospitalized for almost a year.
Shortly after his recovery, he redirected his goals attending cosmetology school to become a hairdresser. In 1960, he opened his first hair salon in Mt. Lebanon. He possessed a strong sense of service, engaged in lifelong learning, and genuinely cared for each of his clients. He had the ability to make each person feel like that they were the most important. With this passion, that small salon led to a network of connections throughout the global hairdressing community. Professionally, Stephen’s mission was developing and educating hairdressers. Even after a 60-year career, Stephen still loved talking about hairdressing techniques and attending classes.
Stephen was an eternally positive thinker, always looking forward and believed in delaying gratification to be better. He taught his children and grandchildren the same motto that he lived by “be thy labor big or small, do it well or not at all”.
Stephen had a full and active life enjoying boating, skiing, traveling, entertaining and learning. When not working, he was solely devoted to his family. Stephen and Bernadette’s lifelong partnership was the cornerstone of all aspects of their lives. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and loved his German shepherd Flora. He will be remembered for his smile, joy of life, style, generosity, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived his wife of 61 years, Bernadette, by his children Suzanne (Diana), SJ (Brenda) and Josh (Katherine), grandchildren Eli, Linsey and Emily, as well as his sister Barbara Bilohlavek and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Sunday April 28, 2024, at Beinhauer Funeral Home in Peters Township from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A blessing service will be held there Monday at 10:30 am.

He received his Board Certification in both Oncology and Hematology in 1980 while in Florida.
He moved back to Pittsburgh and joined the Oncology/Hematology group of Meta/Hilberg. Dr. Brunskill’s compassion, expertise, and tremendous sense of humor contributed and added dimension to those who knew him. His clinical skills made him an outstanding physician and teacher but it was his caring heart that set him apart. Wherever he was, he had a positive impact, and the world is better for him having been with us. May his wisdom, strength, kindness, and caring be continued within all who knew him. We will miss him dearly.

Jack Bibb Elliott - July 13, 1925 - March 28, 2024

Departed: 03/28/2024 (McMurray)
Obituary Preview: Jack Bibb Elliott, long-time resident of Upper St. Clair, died peacefully on March 28, 2024, at the age of 98. He was surrounded by his family and loving wife of 73 years, Susan (Royston) Elliott.
Jack was born July 13, 1925, in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of William M. Elliott and Irene (Bibb) Elliott.
Jack graduated from Hannibal High School in the spring of 1943. Following high school, Jack enlisted in the US Army Air Corps (the predecessor of the US Air Force) and served his World War II duty stateside working on commissioning various planes (including the B25 and B17 bomber planes) to support the war effort. This was the start of Jack’s lifelong love of military aircraft and everyone knew if you asked him about it you had to be prepared to listen! Following the War, Jack took advantage of the GI Bill and enrolled at the University of Missouri School of Engineering where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his time in college, Jack met Susan Ann Royston and they were married on August 12, 1951. Following their wedding, they moved to New York City where Jack took a job with U.S Steel’s Universal Atlas Cement division. This was the start of a successful career that included a series of promotions, transfers and relocations to Leeds, AL, New York City, Hudson NY, and a final relocation to Pittsburgh, PA in 1968. Jack worked a total of 33 years with U.S. Steel related companies and spent more than 35 years in “retirement.”
Jack was devoted to his wife Susan and loved his three children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (and counting). One of his proudest claims is that each of his grandchildren lettered in a high school sport. For years, “Grammy and Gramps” attended numerous games and matches in multiple states and later enjoyed following the “action” online. In fact, he embraced his Apple computer and the internet at an age when most people found new technology too complex.
Jack had a love for sports in general, but specifically golf, baseball and football. Jack had accomplished “Shooting his Age” a “certified” 4 times and played golf well into his 90’s. Jack’s long-time devotion to rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates was unwavering. He was a long-term Steeler fan and attended the famous “Immaculate Reception” playoff game.
Jack and Susan were dedicated parishioners of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 55 years. They volunteered and served in various ministries.
An accomplished woodworker, Jack never saw a piece of wood that was worthy of being thrown out. “Gramps” handcrafted wooden toys for all grandchildren (school buses, trains, doll houses and airplanes…of course!). Each had intricate detail and is a forever keepsake. Jack loved his friends and cherished his time with them on his back deck enjoying grilling and entertaining conversation. No one was immune from a good-natured ribbing!
Jack made a lasting impression on everyone he met and the strength of his values and character live on through his family. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed by all who loved him. Susan and family take comfort in knowing that good memories with family and friends are his lasting legacy.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his brother James A. Elliott. Jack’s family includes: Wife Susan, daughter Janet Elliott Balent (David), son Jack W. Elliott (Mary Jo) and son James R. Elliott (Michelle). Nine grandchildren and their spouses: Jenna Balent Hoover (Richard), David Balent (Valerie), Ryan Balent (Tina), Laura Elliott Foster (Craig), Eric Elliott (Katie), Emily Elliott Dickman (CJ), Jackson Elliott (Hannah), Delaney Elliott Fellabaum (Henry), and Davis Elliott (fiancée Alexis Smith). Six great-grandchildren: Blake Hoover, Camden Hoover, Wyatt Balent, Annie Foster, Will Foster, and Charlee Elliott, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Angela Lynn Slagle - July 07, 1969 - March 26, 2024

Departed: 03/26/2024 (McMurray)
Obituary Preview: Angela Lynn “Angie” Slagle, age 54, of Canonsburg, formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
Angie was born in Bristol, TN, on July 7, 1969, a daughter of Harmon C. Peters, Jr. and the late Lana (Gilley) Peters.
Angie was a 1987 graduate of Tennessee High in Bristol, TN, and attended college.
On January 31, 1998, she eloped and married her husband, Christopher L. Slagle.
Angie had a long and successful career in retail management. She started her career at apparel retailer, Maurice’s. Career advancement brought her to Structure (where she and Chris met), Bloomingdale’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Despite leaving the management ranks to focus more on Sabrina and Tori, she still dabbled in part-time retail, with Apple and J. Crew.
Angie has always had a love of music. Attending concerts with family and friends was a huge source of joy for her. Somewhere along the way, Angie and Chris took a liking to Nascar, which quickly became an obsession. Her favorite driver is Martin Truex Jr. and on September 25, 2022, while in attendance at Texas Motor Speedway, Angie was honored to have her name on Martin’s Car, as a Cancer Hero! Angie enjoyed attending many live sporting events (Pirates, Penguins and Steelers), but there was no live sporting event that was more important to her, than watching Sabrina play tennis, and Tori play golf.
Angie was a kind and loving soul, who frequently put others’ needs ahead of hers. She never wanted people to know how hard she was battling cancer. She did not want people to treat her differently than anyone else, so she was quick to divert attention from that, and focus her attentions on others. She was the best mother and wife that anyone could ask for. Sabrina and Tori are her pride and joy. Even when she was not feeling well, she was more focused on them, than herself. Angie loved hard, battled cancer hard and lived life to its fullest!
Angie is survived by her beloved husband, Christopher L. Slagle; two amazing daughters, Victoria “Tori” Slagle and Sabrina (Nick) Slagle; her father, Harmon C. Peters, Jr.; her sister, Tommie (Eddie) Loudy; two nephews, Hayden (Whitney) Loudy and Zachary (Leah) Slagle; two nieces, Loren (Devon) Franklin and Sarah Slagle; her mother-in-law, Sharon Slagle; a brother-in-law, Scott (Kelly) Slagle; a sister-in-law, Jennifer Slagle; a sister, Terrie Morrow; and an aunt, Toni Peters.
Angie is preceded in death by her mother, Lana (Gilley) Peters, and her father-in-law, Robert Slagle.
A Celebration of Angie’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at The Club at Nevillewood from 2-4 p.m. Dress will be business casual, without a focus on the color black.
