William (Kent) M. Dennis Jr. - August 31, 1922 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Humboldt)
Obituary Preview: Reflections of Life
As the hands of the clock continued to move on April 19, 2024, at 4:15 P.M., the Lord looked down and decided it was time for another servant to come home and rest in his arms. William closed his eyes and transitioned from life on earth to his everlasting home with the Lord and left his earthly pains behind.
William McKinley Dennis, Jr. was born on August 31, 1922, in Fruitland, Tennessee. William was known around town and across the United States as "Kent" which is what people called him most of his life. He was the son of the late William McKinley Dennis, Sr. and the late Frankie Ballentine Dennis.
At an early age his family moved to Humboldt. He attended elementary and high school at Stigall. Additional education was gained in the trade area by attending the Hub City Body and Fender Trade School in Jackson, Tennessee. He also attended and graduated from the Jackson Barber's school. William was married to the late Mary Delois Fly Dennis, and they had one daughter, and they named her Phyllis. He had one grandson Christopher and two great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Ethan.
Life for William did not go untouched by Uncle Sam. Service to his country was with the U.S. Army in World War Il. William's tour of duty was spent in the South Pacific. He was stationed in Japan and the Philippine Islands. His decorations and citations were a Bronze Star, World War Il Victory Ribbon, the American AP heater Ribbons, and the Bronze Service Star. After returning from the Army, he started working at the Martin Marietta Company in Milan Tennessee where he was employed for 42 years before retiring.
William's spiritual journey started at the Jones Grove CME Methodist Church off the old Gibson Wells Road. As a young adult he and his wife joined the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. William was a member of the Usher Board for years and served on the Culinary Committee because he had a love for cooking. Even in his mature senior life he continued to support the church wherever and when he could. William had a special gift in life and that was being a jack of all trades: Excellent Cook, Carpenter, Gardner, Mechanic, Plumber, Barber, and an Arts and Craftsman. He specialized in designing and making floral center pieces from driftwood. His work not only touched Tennessee, but you can find it in Michigan, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana and California. His favorite pastime was working in his yard and garden.
Left to cherish his memories: His aughter, Phyllis Jackson Elliott of Humboldt, TN; Grandson Christopher (Lucreshia) Jackson, Great-Grandson Ethan Jackson all of Houston, TX; Great-Granddaughter Chelesa Jackson o! Clarksville, TN; Step Grandchildren Joshua Smith of Memphis, TN and Breeyona Utley of Jonesboro, AR; Nieces, JoAnn (Thomas) Williams of Sacramento, CA, Barbara (John) Borner of Jackson TN; Jackie Lee of Dallas, TX, Linda Clark of Los Angeles, CA, Nephews, Charles and David Clark of Joliet, IL; Special Cousins, Peggy Wise, Peoria, IL; Lewis Harrison, Muskegon, MI; his devoted caregivers, Ella Ruth Carr, Joseph Walker Wilson and Bridgett Carr Hill all of Humboldt, TN, and a host of relatives and friends.
"For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept thefaith; In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing". 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Johnson, Sr (Betty); Minister Larry Johnson (Pat); Rouden Johnson (Esther); Minister Eugene Johnson (Janice); Mattie Montgomery; Mary Bufford, Doris Bufford; Clementine Perry (Tyrus); Priscilla Farmer (Michael) and a host of nieces and nephews.
He also leaves to cherish his memories his loving church family, St. Paul Baptist Church.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Pastor Billy R Johnson, we find solace in the words he lived by, as expressed in 2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Pastor Johnson's journey, marked by unwavering devotion to his family, faith, and community, echoes the profound impact he leaves behind. Today, we celebrate not only a life well-lived but a legacy of love, service, and faith that will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we navigate the void left by his departure, let us find comfort in the assurance that, like a crown of righteousness, Pastor Johnson's enduring spirit will shine bright in the presence of the Lord.

Nathaniel Hurt - May 08, 1939 - January 24, 2024

Departed: 01/24/2024 (Humboldt)
Obituary Preview: Another soldier has gone to get a great reward. He fought the fight; he kept the faith; and now he has gone home to God. His Soul has gone to God who giveth; the earth will claim its own, his body. But he is shouting around the throne while we are left to mourn. But some day we will meet again, all our loved ones who have gone before. Some day we will reach that happy land where parting will be no more.
On the morning of Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the angel of silence came into the nursing home of NHC – Milan, Tennessee, and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of Deacon Nathaniel “Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine” Hurt, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain to a place of eternal rest.
Deacon Nathaniel “Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine” Hurt was born on May 8, 1939, to Ebb Hurt and Johnnie Hurt in Trezevant, Carroll County, Tennessee. He had five siblings: Martha (Billy) Adkisson, W. C. (Dorothy) Joyner, James Hurt, James Newbill, and George (Luallen) Hurt, all of whom preceded him in death. He was united in Holy matrimony to the love of his life, Virginia Roberson, who preceded him in death. They shared a special daughter, Penny, and they spent many years traveling to Chicago to spend time with their beloved daughter and grandchildren.
Deacon Nathaniel attended Clay School of Trezevant, Tennessee. He was employed at Emerson in Paris, Tennessee, and he retired from Eaton (Dana) Corporation of Humboldt, Tennessee.
Deacon Nathaniel joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church of Trezevant, Tennessee, at an early age. He was a very loving, loyal, and faithful member of the church, singing on the Male and Gospel Choirs, becoming a Deacon later in life, and spending over fifty years in the Master’s service. He gave freely of his time, his talents of singing in the church, working on lawnmowers, being a mechanic, an all-around handyman, and helping whoever called upon him. Deacon Nathaniel was so dearly loved, and it seemed that nearly everyone called him “Uncle Nate, Uncle Snake, or Sunshine” regardless of being a relative or not. He was, indeed, very soft spoken, and he was granted the singing voice of a mockingbird and a smile to light up the world.
Deacon Nathaniel “Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine” Hurt leaves to cherish his precious memory, a loving and special daughter, Penny Roberson of Chicago, IL; one grandson – Rafael Roberson of Chicago, IL; two great-grandchildren: Rafael Roberson, Jr., and Aaliyah Roberson, – both of Chicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law: James (Julier) Ivory; one sister-in-law: Darlene (Ricky) Robinson; and a host of very dear and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, his church, and friends.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls to the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also offer assistance in crafting an obituary.

Technology has revolutionized the way we share news of a loved one's passing. Online platforms enable rapid dissemination of information, facilitate global connections, and provide permanent digital archives of tributes and memories.

How can I ensure that my loved one's story is preserved beyond just an obituary?

Beyond the initial announcement of their passing, consider creating a digital archive of stories, photos, and mementos that celebrate your loved one's life. You can also explore oral history projects or biographical writings as ways to preserve their legacy.
