Luis was born in Lisbon, Portugal & came to this country settling in Elizabeth in 1985.He was employed as a Mechanic, welder for Waste Management Industries, Newark for 25 years before going to Vieira Bakery in Newark for 9 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Tavares Esteves. A son Bruno Alexandre Esteves of Portugal. A daughter Bruna Alexandra Esteves of Elizabeth. 3 Brothers, Fernando Esteves, Joao P. Esteves & Mario Esteves, 3 sisters, Dulce Esteves Figueiras, Luzia Araujo Esteves & Irene Duarte all in Portugal.

She built a beautiful & simple life together with her husband, Vito, dedicating her time to care for her family, which was always her priority. She was a homemaker who loved cooking, baking & gardening.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Vito, three brothers, Frank, Gerardo LaVecchia & Aurelio LaVecchia and son in law Anthony Riccobono.
Angela is survived by her devoted children, son Angelo DeMattia and his wife Deborah of North Brunswick, 2 daughters, Rosetta DiGiorgio and her husband Carmine of Denver, NC & Phyllis Riccobono of Toms River. in her hometown of São Vicente de Pereira Juza, Portugal. Ilda was born in Veiros, Estarreja, Portugal, on July 24, 1946, to António Vaz de Oliveira and Maria Emília Henriques Afonso Marques. She immigrated with her husband, Fernando Bastos Santos, to the United States in 1974, first settling in Red Bank, and then moving to Tinton Falls. She was a master seamstress, working primarily at Mustillo’s and then at Garmany, both in Red Bank. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a loving sister and warmhearted colleague that brought life and joy to everything she did,
and will be greatly missed by everyone. She is predeceased by her brother, João Alberto Henriques de Oliveira. She is survived by her husband, Fernando Bastos Santos, her three sons, Rui Oliveira Santos, Daniel Oliveira Santos and his wife Kiersten Susan Lane, and Paulo Oliveira Santos and his wife Rita Regina Fortes Filipe, her three grandchildren, Antonio Ciccarelli Santos, Isabella Ciccarelli Santos, and Zoë Filipe Santos, along with one grandson on the way, and her seven sisters, Maria Emília Marques de Oliveira, Leonilde Marques de Oliveira, Albina Rosa Marques de Oliveira, Maria Candida Henriques de Oliveira Reis, Maria Almerinda Henriques de Oliveira

Marvin was predeceased by his partner Bonnie Hermann, and is survived by his son Gregory (Rachel), daughter Ariane (Mickey), and grand daughters Delilah and Minka. He was brilliant, kind, wise, hilarious, gentle, and dapper as they come. He loved music, old movies, cars, the flea market, tuna salad, and had an unrivaled joie de vivre and ability to make others feel seen and loved. He was never without a joke, always exclaiming 'what would we do without humor'. He had a life changing impact on everyone who crossed paths with him and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.

He was employed as a mason in the Union County area for many years before retiring. Fernando was an active member, usher and communicant of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Elizabeth and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent countless hours at the Portuguese Instructive Social Club barbecuing, playing canastra, and enjoying quality time with friends.
Fernando is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria A. Ferreira, his son Carlos M. Ferreira and his wife Cristianei, his two daughters Maria F. Percivale, and Carla Ferreira and her husband Victor Orena. Fernando was a loving grandfather to Ariana Percivale. He had many siblings and is survived by his brother Belmiro, and two sisters Alice and Florinda Ferreira. He was blessed with numerous brothers and sisters in law, nephews, and nieces whom he treasured and loved very much.

Dennis Rooney Jr. - January 01, 1936 - January 31, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dennis Rooney Jr., 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 31, 2024. Dennis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Olga Rooney and his son Tom Rooney, his brother James Rooney married to Ann Rooney, countless nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Dennis will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
Dennis has been a lifetime member of the Nugent Association and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Being named “Irishman of the Year” by the Nugents Association in 2013, you could always find Dennis listening to Irish music.
Dennis was born in Ossining, New York in 1936, the son of Denis and Bridget (of Leitrim and Offlay, Ireland, respectively). Dennis came to Elizabeth in 1943 and attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955.
After high school, Dennis went to work for General Aniline & Film Corporation (GAF) where he worked until 1969. During that period, Dennis served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma with the 290th Armored Field Artillery. He was then transferred to the Army Security Agency in Japan where he was stationed for one year. Dennis went to night school at Rutgers University and graduated in 1970 with the BS degree in accounting. He left GAF in 1969 and went to work for J.B. Williams Company in Cranford until 1973. In January 1974 he went to work with the Internal Revenue Service as a Field Agent and subsequently retired from the Agency in October 2004.
Dennis met his wife Olga at GAF and they were married on April 28, 1962. When he was not listening to Irish music, or traveling with family, Dennis spent his free time helping family and friends with medical, tax and personal matters.
Please join us to celebrate his life and to share beautiful memories of a man whose legacy will live on forever. Visitation will be held at August F Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home on Monday February 5, 2024 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Maria was born in Moreiras, Chaves, Portugal on September 16, 1933. At the age of 18, Maria left her home and moved to Brasil where she met and married her beloved husband, Manuel Machado on October 18, 1965. In 1970, Maria and Manuel moved to the United States and settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey where they raised their son, Leo.
Maria is survived by her husband of 58 years, Manuel, the light of her life and her only son Leo, daughter in law, Susana, her 3 granddaughters, Amanda, Abigail and Luciana as well as countless siblings, nieces and nephews. Maria will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Steven worked for the United States Postal Service for 41 years where he was awarded the "Million Mile Safe Driving Award". Steven enjoyed fishing, music and a good horse race. He loved to travel the world with his wife and precious daughter, Priscilla. Our dearest Steven, is survived by his loving wife Ivonne, daughter Priscilla, father Frank (deceased 2012), mother Marta, siblings Chris, Michelle, Scott and Lisa, and countless nieces and nephews. Hernando Narvaez - June 12, 1931 - January 15, 2024

Obituary Preview: Hernando Narvaez, 92 of Elizabeth died peacefully on Monday, January 15th at his sister’s home in Edison.
He was born and raised in New York City. He served in the Marine Corps. Enlisted in December1951 and Honorary discharge in December 1953, and then went to work for Western Electric in Kearny. In 1974 he settled in Elizabeth to be closer to his family.
Hernando retired from Western Electric in 1987 to enjoy his love for fishing, skiing, tennis, and reading.
He is survived by his sister Laura, and her son Rudolph, daughters Andrea, Elizabeth and their families.
He always loved reminiscing about his friends from the old neighborhood.
Hernando was a parishioner of St. Catherine’s Church. He saw the good in everyone and lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
He will forever and greatly be missed.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 24 at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church, Hillside, NJ.
Visitation Tuesday January 23 from 4PM to 8PM at the August F Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home.
Burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.

Angelina Bernardo - February 06, 1927 - January 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Angelina Bernardo (nee Da Silva), 96 years old, passed away on January 13, 2024 at the Elmora Hills Rehab and Nursing facility in Elizabeth, NJ and would turn 97 on February 6. Daughter of Manuel Da Silva and Clementina De Jesus, she was born in Mangualde, Portugal and emigrated to the United States in June 1965 accompanied by her four children. She was the widow of Eduardo da Costa Bernardo, who had previously emigrated in August 1960 and passed away in September 22, 2002.
A beloved and devoted mother and wife, Angelina was the last survivor of eight siblings and is survived by three children; Manuel da Costa (Cidalia), Beatriz Horta (Joaquim, passed away in 2022), and Maria Neida Rosenstock (Terry). The youngest son, Antonio Jorge da Costa passed away in 1978 at the age of 19 resulting from a tragic car accident. Angelina is also the grandmother of Paul da Costa (Ingrid), Danielle Scocca (Peter), Leslie Bargo (Jose), David De Oliveira (April), Mark De Oliveira, Brian De Oliveira (Lauren) and 13 great grandchildren. Her spirit will live forever in our hearts.
Angelina was a seamstress, cook and housewife. She was known by many as an excellent cook and while living in Portugal she was sought after by many for dinner parties at special occasions such as baptisms and weddings.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Elizabeth and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #11798 where he was a founding member and a former District Deputy. He was a member of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club, both of Elizabeth. Relatives & Friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, 1/8/24 at 9 AM at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Elizabeth.
Mario is predeceased by his wife Deolinda Jesus Dos Santos who died in 2015. He is survived by a son Antonio Mario Rodrigues & his wife Rosa of Linden. A daughter Ana Paula Dos Santos Rodrigues & her husband Antonio Luis of Portugal. A brother Jose Rodrigues & his wife Maria Fernanda of Flushing, NY. A sister, Maria Arminda Lopes & her husband Jose Antonio of Queens, NY. Grandfather of Jade Nicole Rodrigues, Nicholas Anthony Rodrigues & Ana Carina Rodrigues Dos Santos.

She was an active communicant of St. John Episcopal Church, Elizabeth where she was a member of the Altar Guild & the woman's Guild. She loved sports & loved her long walks & was an avid gardener & loved being in the garden with her birds. She was active in the PTA of her children's public schools in Elizabeth.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph W. Kornicke in 2014, a retired police officer & homicide detective in Elizabeth. She is survived by her two children, Judy L. Kornicke & Kenneth W. Kornicke both of Elizabeth who were her care givers. She also survived by a son, Joseph R. Kornicke & his wife Wanda of Waynesboro, Va. & a daughter Kathleen Malone of Spring Lake Heights. Grandmother of Margaret Jensen, Brian Malone, Karla Kornicke & Katherine. She is also survived by six Great Grandchildren, Paul, Thomas, Owen, Megan, Hannah & Chloe. Predeceased by a brother Arthur Haynes & sister Isabel Kohler.
