Jean was a devoted homemaker, known for her culinary skills and her love for her family. Jean's love for cooking was evident in her famous hot peppers, which she lovingly prepared and canned for her family and friends. Her delicious meals brought joy to those around her and created lasting memories. If you knew her, you likely attended one of her Sunday dinners, where her warm hospitality and delicious cooking made everyone feel like family.
Jean's greatest joy was spending time with her many grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was cooking together in the kitchen, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other's company.
Jean is survived by sons Dallas "Joe" (Kathy), Wendle (Sue), Jerry "Curt" (June), Dennis "Denny", Lyle (Angie), Elliott Jr. (Terry), Shannon, Jeremy (Casandra), daughters Linda (Steve) Carte, Lucille (Slots) Nickell, Angela (Greg) Pierson, and a large and loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including 33 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by brothers C.D., Frank, and Larry McKnight, and sisters Norma Smith and Dorothy McMahon.
Jean is preceded in death by her son James "Mousey" Lesher, grandson Andrew Lesher, ex-husband G. Elliott Lesher Sr., daughter-in-law Betsy Lesher, mother Ruby McKnight, father Walter McKnight, brothers Marshall Carte, and Granville McKnight.
Jean's family extends heartfelt gratitude to her hospice nurses Stephanie, Randi, and Cari for their compassionate care and support during her final days. Their dedication and kindness provided comfort not only to Jean but also to her family during a difficult time. Their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care is deeply appreciated and will always be remembered fondly.
Jean's legacy of love, kindness, and delicious cooking will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Born on February 3, 1951, in Lansing, West Virginia, Earldine devoted her life to spending time with loved ones, her long and distinguished career as a hairdresser, and her countless hours of volunteer work with the local 4-H program and UDC. She was an animal lover, skilled gardener, adventurous traveler, and she danced to the beat of her own drum. Her legacy is one of love, joy, and perseverance. Despite her years of battling illness, her spirit never waned. Her friends and family will miss her dearly but all take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched.
Earldine was preceded in death by her parents, James and Geraldine Workman. Obituary Preview: Mrs. Cheryl Lynn (Pridemore) Sears, age 61, of Dacula, Georgia, passed away from Leukemia on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Emory University Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Sears, a woman of faith and unwavering devotion, was born to the late Wanda Faye (Cole) Pridemore in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 2, 1962. Raised by her late Grandmother, Edith Crosby (Idell) Cole, and her late Aunt, Mary Cole, in Winona, West Virginia, she was a beacon of love and strength. Cheryl graduated from Midland Trail High School in Hico, West Virginia, in 1980 and from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1984. Cheryl was a member of Free Chapel in Braselton, Georgia. She also served in the Women’s Aglow ministry in Lawrenceville and at the Winder Baptist Church in Georgia. Her commitment to her family and faith was evident in her roles as a wife, mother, and “Gramcie.”
A memorial service to honor and remember Cheryl’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Keeney's Creek Baptist Church in Winona, WV, where she attended from a young age through her years living in WV. Mark Secrist, Pastor of Mountain State Baptist Church, Summersville, and childhood friend, will officiate the service. The family will be available to receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Lonnie Sears of Dacula; son & daughter-in-law, Lee & Allison Sears of Jefferson; son, Caleb Sears of Dacula; daughter & son-in-law, Abigail & Joseph O’Donovan of Braselton; grandchildren, Lilly Sears, Lana Sears, Silas Sears, Naomi O’Donovan, Micah O’Donovan, and Lydia Lynn O’Donovan; and brothers, Timothy Pridemore of Red Bluff, CA, and Billy Pridemore of Sacramento, CA, many cousins, aunts and uncles who loved her dearly. Obituary Preview: Isabelle Ruth Skaggs Hess, age 81, of Ansted, WV, went to be with her Savior and Lord on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, following a sudden illness. Born on October 24, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Elvin Skaggs and Ruby Morton Skaggs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David of 54 years; her daughter Kimbra Hess Hobbs; brothers, Elvin “Scooter” Skaggs, Jerry Skaggs, and John Skaggs.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, David Michael and Lesa Hess of Beckley, Mark and Teana Hess of Loudendale, and Bonita Hess of South Charleston. Grandchildren include Jennifer and Adam Hensley: Alicia Conklin and fiance’ Cody Schultz; Jessica and Dan Wallen; Nathan and Lizzy Hess; and Michael Bryson and Shakeria Hess. Great-grandchildren include Isaac, Caleb, and Hannah Hensley, Evelyn Conklin, Hunter Wallen, Beckham Hess, and Xyla James and Oakley Hess. Special family friend, David Lambert. She also loved and cared for her cat, Heidi Mae.
In addition to Ruth being a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she attended Gum Spring Baptist Church in Gauley Bridge where she often played the piano. She thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday Ladies Prayer Group and also attending the Monday Ansted Widows Club. Throughout the years she held many positions at church including church treasurer, youth leader, women’s auxiliary, song leader and choir member, church plays, church camp, Sunday School teacher, and served anywhere she was needed. She was a talented seamstress, making beautiful prom dresses and even a wedding gown for her daughter. She loved gardening and canning for many years. In more recent years, she has enjoyed watching football and basketball games, attending special church services and revivals, planting and caring for flowers, working puzzles, and playing board games. She had been actively involved in community service groups through the Angels, RSVP, and AARP. She especially loved spending time with her family and many friends. She will be dearly missed by so many. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2024, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, WV. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor and Friend Mack Canterbury officiating, along with Revs. Adam Hensley and Isaac Hensley, with eulogy by Rev. Mark and Bonita Hess. She was a breast cancer survivor and was born in Montogomery, W.V. She was the daughter of the late Meredith “Big Chew” Scarbro and Drema Legg Scarbro.
She was a personal care assistant who was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Tammy, to whom she dedicated her life to take care of.
Survivors include her son, Jeremy (Nora) Bennett; grandchildren, Jacob Andrew, Jacob Edward, Briauna, Curtis and Bryson; great grandchild, Kayden; sister, Dianna Scarbro; brother, Meredith “Jr” (Sherrie); nephew, Hunter; great nephew, Chase.
She loved and cherished her son, grandchildren, nephew and great nephew along with her sister and brother.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until time of service. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

She was born on May 14, 1936 at Thayer, WV; she was the daughter of the late Ray Cason Burruss and Florence Richmond Burruss.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Boyd Secrist; a daughter, Gina Mae; a sister, Judy Conley and brothers, Robert “Bob” Burruss and Alan Burruss.
Mickey was a member of Keeneys Creek Baptist Church. She was a devoted Pastor’s wife and a loving Christian mother who always put her children and family first above herself. She worked hard all her life until she became physically unable to do so. She will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, B.B. (Elaine) Secrist of Manning , SC, Moonie (Darrell) Sevy of Winona, Cindy (John) Sears of Fayetteville and Pastor Mark (Cheryl) Secrist of Mt. Obituary Preview: Justin Paul Jones, 34 of Fayetteville passed away March 19, 2024.
Justin was born in Beckley, West Virginia to John Paul Jones and Sherri Faulkiner.
Justin was a graduate of Midland Trail High School in 2008. Shortly after high school he found a passion for line work where he spent 13 years dedicating his service to his community and surrounding states. He was a proud Journeyman Lineman for IBEW Local 71. When Justin was not working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and four children. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, being outdoors, dirt bike racing and going to his favorite Mexican restaurants. Justin had a gift for making people smile. His beautiful heart was his greatest asset.
His maternal grandfather, George Smith of Danese proceeded him in death.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are his wife, Lindsey Jones and his greatest accomplishments, Peyton (11), Ryleigh (8), Jaiden (6), Jett (2); Mother, Sherri (Kelby) Faulkiner of Frankford; John Paul (Robin) Jones of Lookout; Grandparents, Flossie Smith of Danese, John and Connie Jones of Lookout; brother Dakota (Hannah) of Danese; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who have walked by his side throughout his life.
A celebration of Justin's life will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Nuttall Community Center. Family will receive friends Sunday from 1 P.M. until 3 P.M. Service officiant will be Charlie Pritt.
Justin’s final resting place will be at Smith Family Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that the family of Loray Fay Willis announce that she entered into the gates of Heaven on March 10TH at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
She was born on November 26, 1946 on Beauty Mountain, Edmond, WV to the late Aaron and Geraldine Pennington Carver.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Willis; grandson, Nicholas White; one brother and three sisters.
Loray loved the Lord and her family. She was an amazing artist and her art was in many government buildings and in the homes of all who loved her. She loved canning and “prepping” and was the best cookie maker in Fayette County and she knew it.
Those left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Marie (Mike) White of Beckley, Sherry (Dave) Cummins of Fayetteville, Angie (Tony) Hawkins of Ansted, Tiffany (Jason) Wilson of Ansted, Regina (the late J.D.) Pack of Oak Hill. She also leaves behind grandchildren, JT White, Timothy (Brittany) Moore, Carissa (Dezmon) Pierson, Matthew, Christian, Jacob, Noah Cummins, Lindsay, Spencer (Austin) Hawkins, Trevor (Mallory) Hawkins, Gabe and Elijah Hawkins, Ray (Angelique)Pawlus, Cheyanne Pawlus and Raven Harmon; great grandchildren, Braylee and Brady Moore, Zaidyn and Addy Pierson, Athena Hawkins, Hailey, Heidi, Harrison and Hazley Pawlus, Selah Ritter, Reece Emoree Lester; great grandchildren, Chase White, Gabriel White and Olivia White; one sister; extended family and a host of friends.
The family would like to personally thank everyone at the Bower Hospice House for everything they did for their mother. A special thank you to CJ Neff, Amy Stonestreet, Tammy, Ashley, Randi and Cassie and the ordained minister’s that read moms favorite scriptures during her stay.

A graveside service will be at Kesler Memorial Church Cemetery, Sunday Road, on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:00 P.M.

adventures. Carrie enjoyed camping, four wheeler rides and spending time with her family. Her children and grand babies were her pride and joy. She collected wolves, horses,
crystals and rocks that caught her eye. She was a favorite to many. Left behind to carry on her memory are her sons: Josh, Jessey (Brittany); Mitch Holcomb of Sugar Creek; Charlie (Jenny) Holcomb of Ansted; Shane Hendericks of Cabin Creek; daughter: Marria (Ray) Ingalls of Ansted; Mother: Esther Steele. Brothers: Bruce (Rose) Steele, Daniel (Ashley) Steele of Ansted, William (Laura) Steele of Fayetteville, Aaron, Tony,
Brian (Miranda) and John Dabler of Oak Hill. Sister: Zada Burr of Ansted. Best friend, Pam Marks and her family of Ansted. Special nephews: Briston Hanner and Nathan Steele. Eight grandchildren and two on the way, two great grand-daughters

He was the son of Ralph and Nellie Waugh Sevy of Lookout WV. He was a coal miner for twenty-four years. He was a previous employee of Georgia Pacific and owned his own trucking company, Double D Trucking. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his family. He was a member
of Mountain State Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and treasurer. He is survived by his high school sweetheart of fifty years, Moonie Secrist Sevy. His only son, which was his pride and joy, Shain (Charity) Sevy. His four granddaughters, which
were the loves of his life, Mindy Sevy, Molly (Jared) Mitchell, Abby Sevy and Brylie Sevy. Three great grandchildren, Mya, Dalton and Lettie Mitchell. His two brothers Gerald (Elizabeth) and Carl (Renee) Sevy. His two brother in laws B.B. and Mark Secrist who
were more like brothers. Also, a host of family that loved him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel in Ansted, WV. Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Summersville at Mountain State Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Jeanette Cemetery at Lookout, WV. Carol was born and raised in Edmond West Virginia where she resided for the first 30 years of her life. Carol moved to Maryland where she raised her family and worked for JC Penney‘s until she retired in 1994. Carol then return to her home state of West Virginia from 1994 to 2024. Carol was a loving and supportive daughter wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her love for her family and friends ran deep. Carol was a devout Christian, who taught Sunday school loved singing in the choir and happily assisted in the many church events. Carol’s church family was always very important to her as well.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Holliday and Hester Gill Holliday, husband, Bob, Edds Campbell Senior and son Timothy Layne Campbell, son-in-law, Whitney, Dale Grimley sisters, Irene Prater, Ernestine Strunk, Nelda Holliday and Charlotte Holliday.
Survived by brothers and sister-in-law‘s Dale and Fronie Holliday, John and Sherry Holliday ; her children, Diana Lee Grimley, Bob Edds Campbell, Junior, Melissa and Randy Reid; Grandchildren, Wendi, Ben, Deanna, Jennifer, Joe, Staci, Robert and Jesse; Great grandchildren Hailey, Kortini, Ashlei, Emili, Daniel, Javier, Erin,Eva, Anani, David, Caleb, Breanna and Lily-Mae. Born on Shade Creek, to Raymond and Betty (Kessler) Lucas, he moved with the family to Leadville, Colorado in 1963 and returned to reside in West Virginia in 1975.
Mitchell was a 1968 graduate of Lake County High School in Leadville, CO, and earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State College. He was employed in various industries, construction, and law enforcement over the years prior to retirement due to disability.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jonathan; daughter, Laurie; step granddaughter, Codi; and beloved wife, Bonita (Bonnie) Benger Lucas. Surviving to cherish his memory are siblings: Cheryl (Bill) Sidders, Alfred (Linda) Lucas, Tim (Vicki) Lucas, Susan (Charles) Grubbs, Rebecca (David) Parsons, and Terri Lucas; granddaughters: Kim, Katie, and Kayla; daughter Christie; and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was loved by his family and friends and will be missed, but GOD has welcomed him into heaven where he can forget all the pain he endured over his lifetime.
Mitchell’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes placed alongside those of his wife. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lenny was born July 6, 1999 in Logan County, WV. Lenny moved to Craigsville in 2013 to live with his foster family where he spent the next 11 years being a special part of their family and loved as if he were their own. Lenny loved his family very much. Although he was nonverbal, he still was able to communicate. He was very smart and had an amazing sense of humor and he would burst out laughing out of nowhere. He loved his toys, animals, and listening to music. He was an amazing soul to know. Lenny was preceded in death by his birth mother Darlena Garbowsky, his foster dad Lee Evans, his brother Shane Evans, and his grandpa Edgar Brunty.
Lenny is survived by his biological father Roy Dunn, his foster mom Carolyn Evans, sisters Tracy Tincher and Jessica (Ernest) Malcomb, and brothers, Kenny Dunn, and Bryan (Tabitha) Evans.
Services will be on Friday January 12, 2024 at West Virginia Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Calvin, WV at 1:00 pm. Burial services will follow. Services will be officiated by Brian Evans.

She is survived by daughter, Dottie (William) Dean; grandchildren, Chuck (Kayla) Hendricks, Candy (Johnny) Sheaves, Amy (Troy) Propst; great-grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Isaacs, Charleigh Hendricks, Ashleigh (Troy) Knott, Bailey Sheaves and fiancé Drew Colona, Dalton Sandridge, Kailey Sandridge, Trent Propst and fiancee’ Zack Sheldon; great-great-grandchildren, Liam Knott, Abel Isaacs, Abby Isaacs; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Raymond, Sam, James, and Gus McVey and her sisters, Elsie Smith and Irene Campbell.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum, Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor with Pastor Randy Spurgeon officiating. Family and friends may call at the mausoleum chapel one hour prior to the service.

He was a skilled and well-known carpenter; he ran and operated his own construction company and even contributed to the building of the New River Gorge Bridge. He retired from Raleigh County with over 20 years of service as the building superintendent. He loved the outdoors and would be most likely found on the riverbank or in the woods. He was known as the man who could fix anything, especially through the eyes of his grandchildren. He had many titles in life, but his favorite was, “papaw.”
He is survived by his siblings, Teddy Hatcher (Joan), Joyce Boles, Darrell Hatcher (Connie), Gary Hatcher (Kim) Lennis Sizemore (Dennis) Children; Wayne Hickey (Darlene), Debbie Seelinger (Kenny), Michael Hatcher (Shirley) and Malinda Bragg (Fred) and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; David and Belva Hatcher, siblings; Charles “Chuck” Hatcher, Rose Cameron, Linda Halstead, David Hatcher, and Eddie Hatcher.
Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating.
