Adam John "AJ" Nowoj - May 25, 1938 - April 11, 2024

Departed: 04/11/2024 (Plainfield)
Obituary Preview: Adam John "AJ" Nowoj, of Plainfield, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning on April 11, 2024, at the age of eighty-five at Edward Hospital with his nurse Maria and his only son by his side. AJ suffered a stroke on March 19th and after testing, discovered that he had stage 4 lung cancer. AJ humbly and with strength and dignity, fought hard until his kidneys, liver, and other vital organs shut down. He is survived by his child Adam, (Wife Michele), grandchildren Carly, Christian, and Jack, and sister Joann Reagan.
AJ was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Chicago, IL to Mildred Czerniak and Adam Nowoj. AJ grew up in Chicago, but after his mother died when he was six years old, he moved to Walla Walla, WA to live with various family members. As a first-year student in high school, AJ attended St. Patrick’s High School. After graduation, he took classes at a college in Cheney, WA, but soon found that it was not his calling and he decided to work for his Uncle John’s company “John Nowoj and Sons Masonry” as a hod carrier. After some time, AJ decided to move back to Chicago and attended DeVry Technical Institute, worked a parttime job to pay for his tuition, and upon graduation he worked for Zenith repairing hearing aids. After a year, AJ followed his dream and joined the USAF (United States Air Force), which would take him to Okinawa, Japan, in which he would earn his third stripe as an Airman 1st Class. After his honorable service in the USAF, AJ found a job repairing and testing bank data processing machines, in which he would meet the love of his life, Sharon Lynn Bear, who was a teller at the Northwest Bank and Trust, located in Davenport, IA. After nine months of courtship, they were wed on December 26, 1964. Sharon and AJ then moved to Illinois and nine years later, their son Adam was born. AJ and Sharon lived for many years in Morton Grove, IL, moved to Wonder Lake, IL, then finally moved to Plainfield, IL. Sharon passed away on November 25, 2021, and AJ would visit her grave site at a minimum of once a week for the remainder of his life.
AJ will always be remembered for his love of God and family. AJ was a true patriot, nationalist, and believer in Jesus Christ. As a legal concealed carry gun holder, he once said, “These two things will protect me,” as he pulled up his shirt showing his 9mm pistol and then in his pocket, a rosary. AJ would ALWAYS stand and salute when the National Anthem of the United States was sung, and most times, seen with tears streaming from his face. AJ and Sharon saved all their money, as their focus was on their only son, Adam, in which they proudly paid for his Catholic grade school, Catholic high school and college. AJ would go on to attend many of his grandchildren’s games, dances, and events. After the death of his love, Sharon, AJ would spend his time starting a rosary group, teaching six others how to make rosary’s. To date over eight hundred rosaries have been created and distributed around the country and abroad. AJ would attend Catholic mass every day, attend weekly bible study, and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member in the Catholic church. AJ was a quiet man, hard to anger, devoted, and had strong convictions. AJ touched many lives throughout the years, including several ICU nurses during his last days. AJ always remembered to give thanks for his many blessings in life, died peacefully, without little pain, full mind, with his son and nurse by his side, and one of the things to protect him, a rosary in his hand.

Marianne Higgins - April 05, 1943 - April 10, 2024

Departed: 04/10/2024 (Plainfield)
Obituary Preview: Marianne Higgins, age 81, of Romeoville, Il passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on April 10, 2024.
She was the daughter of Stanley and Mary Zaworski.
Originally from Berwyn, IL, Marianne was a long time resident of Romeoville. Marianne put family first, above all else. She met the love of her life, Chuck in 1978, and they were happily married in 1988. She was the loving mother of six, beloved grandmother to eleven, and great-grandmother of twelve.
She was Marianne to most, “Mare” to one, Grandma to some, and Nana to many. Marianne was known for her sense of fashion and making all things beautiful. She could be seen about town fashionably dressed from head to toe, and, not surprisingly, her house and yard were chosen as Home of the Month several times and Home of the Year recently in her town. Marianne loved the holidays, and, on top of spoiling her family with thoughtfully selected gifts, her house was one of the most beautifully decorated homes in town during all holidays.
If you were a Walmart shopper in Romeoville, you likely came across Marianne’s path or had the pleasure of having her as your cashier. She was the one with the brightest nails, the bluest eyes, and a contagious smile or smirk that you most likely took home with you.
Our hearts are broken to say goodbye to our wife, our Mom, our Grandma, Nana, sister and friend. We will miss her, but we find some comfort knowing that our separation is not eternal. Marianne is at peace, living in a perfect body with our God, her parents, siblings and beloved sons. She loved us all with all that she had. We will miss her spunk, her sass, her phone calls, texts, and her stubborn but loving spirit. She will always be with us, and she certainly took a piece of our hearts with her.
Marianne was preceded in death by her sons Donald (Donnie) and James (Jimmy), her brother Buddy, and her sisters Dolly and Patsy.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charles (Chuck), her son Patrick Peterka, daughter Wendy Job, daughter Valerie Ballard (Mike), daughter Dawn Peterka (Brian O’Donnell), daughter in law Sandy Peterka (Donnie), her grandchildren Melissa Andrews (Steven), Cody Peterka (Tiffany), Kendall Peterka (Brett Shakespeare) Paige Peterka, Courtney Aldridge (Charlie), Ashley Job, Brittany Hanacek (Marcus), Emilee Medeisis (Cody), Mackenzie O’Neill (Sean), Brian O’Donnell (Sidney), Mikey O’Donell, and great-grandchildren Alexis (Jeremy), Dylan, Valerie, Brayden, Sierra, Carson, Logan, Palmer, Elle, Levi, Adeline, Emmet, her brother Stanley Zaworski (Joan), sister Karen Gonsior (John), and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, from 3p-8p at Anderson Memorial Home; located at 21131 W Renwick, Rd. Plainfield, IL 60544. Service will take place Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL.

He was a Mighty Man of Dunbar High School and a born leader where he excelled athletically on the football field as a team captain, playing defensive end and linebacker. With his athletic prowess, he later went on to have a successful football career at both Kennedy King Junior College and the HBCU, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. After college, he would go on to pledge the graduate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Incorporated.
As a young man, Larry worked at FedEx, where he would meet the love of his life, his wife, Sheila (Townsend) Lawrence. Anyone who knew Larry for even a moment understood he was a proud, devoted “Girl Dad” and family man who cared for many nieces, nephews, and other family members throughout his life.
A hard-worker all his life, Larry retired from Jewel Osco in 2019 after 23 years, but no job was more important to him than being a Dad. An involved parent for many years in the Naperville school system, Larry volunteered his time for field trips, coaching (from the stands), and was an active mentor to many. A man of faith, he was a dedicated member of his church’s Marriage Ministry at New Covenant Worship Center with his wife, Sheila.
Larry transitioned on March 3, 2024, surrounded by family and friends on a warm, sunny day and is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Connie Lawrence and his brothers Willie “Gene” Etters, and Marion “Bud” Lawrence. Nancy M. Gentile - March 05, 1942 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Plainfield)
Obituary Preview: Nancy Mary Gentile passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14 2024 surrounded by her beloved family.
Nancy worked as a Commercial Lines Manager in Insurance for several years, spending a majority of her career with USF&G.
A number of years ago, Nancy was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She never let that slow her down and her drive and strength got us to August of 2011. On that date and with a miracle from up above and the unselfishness of a 21 year old woman by the name of Amber Daun Beck, she received a lung transplant and we had the privilege of having her in our lives for 12 additional years.
She was the most selfless individual and always put her family and loved ones first. She would drop everything for anyone at anytime and was always willing to help in any way she could. She had a way to make everyone she met immediately feel comfortable and you could sit and talk to her for hours. To know her was truly to love her. She had a million dollar smile. Everywhere she went she was always talking to someone whether she knew them before or not.
She had a devoted dog named Louie, wherever she went, he followed and vice versa. Nancy was an avid Chicago Cubs fan but with an overall sports fanatic and would watch any game on TV (and more than likely had a sports bet going with either Quinn or Annie). She always rooted for the underdog.
She was a life long golfer and when she moved to Carillon she lived on the 1st hole of the golf course. She was very involved with her community in Carillon and participated in Golf, Boccee, Cards, and the Civic Committee.
Nancy is survived by her chosen sister and best friend Linda Moody; loving niece Kristen (Michael) Corrigan; precious grandchildren Quinn and Jack Corrigan; lifelong best friend Annie Walker; adored dog Louie; dear sister Anne Pietzmeier and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Joseph and Catherine Gentile and siblings Lorraine (Nicholas) Pietrantoni, Edith (Mars) Marchese, Frank Gentile, Anthony Gentile and Sandra Gentile.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 12pm to 3pm, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Anderson Memorial Home, located at 21131 W Renwick Rd. Plainfield, IL 60544. Memorial Service will begin at 2:30 pm.

Ivory Shipley - November 09, 1948 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Plainfield)
Obituary Preview: Celebration of Life for Ivory Ealey Shipley 11/9/48 - 2/14/24 Ivory Mae Ealey Shipley was born on November 9, 1948 in Scott, Mississippi to the late Jack and Lorean Ealey. She was the fifth of ten children,
Ivory accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was baptized at Mozart Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. She was very strong in her faith and took her walk with God very seriously. Reading her Bible and hearing the music from hymnals gave her peace. She embodied Psalms 31 and was truly a virtuous woman.
Ivory graduated from John Marshall High School in 1967. On February 21, 1968, Ivory married Theodore Shipley who was serving in the United States Army. She was his loving wife for 54 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Ivory’s love language was food. She enjoyed cooking and baking from scratch. She enjoyed finding and sharing new recipes with her family as well as watching and learning from Food Network. She was a collector of cookbooks and recipes. Even though the kitchen was truly her happy place, she also enjoyed dining out and enjoying fine cuisine prepared by others. She loved working in her garden and growing her own herbs and vegetables that she used in her cooking. Although some find cooking to be tedious, she made cooking into a beautiful and enjoyable art form.
Ivory also enjoyed spending time with the “little ones” in the family. Her warmth and patience with her great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews enriched their lives tremendously.
Ivory was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Sr and Lorean Ealey and her siblings, Ruby, Bobbie, Jack Jr, Linda, Delois, and John. Her living siblings Bertha, Michael, and Michelle will miss her presence dearly.
Ivory leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Theodore; daughter Erica (Michael); sons Brandon and David; grandchildren Lauren, Christian, Jordan, Aaron, Cameron, Francesca, Dominique, and Elvira ; great grandchildren Miles, Kennedy, and Rylee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Ivory entered into eternity on February 14, 2024. It is no coincidence that she returned to God who loves her on Valentine’s Day, a day of love.
