Greg A. Narkis - March 24, 1962 - April 18, 2024

Departed: 04/18/2024 (Franklin Park)
Obituary Preview: Greg Narkis, born on March 24, 1962, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2024, leaving behind many memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. He was a devoted husband to Grace, a loving father to Amanda (Husband Justin Groff) and Matthew. Greg was also a beloved brother to his siblings Steve, Debbie, Robert, and Scott and Uncle to his nephews Jeffrey, Timothy, Michael, and Ryan. A thoughtful in-law to the Tworkowska family in Poland and Grace's family friends.
Greg was a man of exceptional resilience and determination, traits that defined his approach to both work (Proud employee of Elcon Inc) and life. He faced every challenge with unwavering patience and a steadfast commitment to excellence, leaving a permanent mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
Tragically, Greg's life was cut short by complications related to a recent diagnosis of lung cancer, a battle he faced with courage and uncertainty. Despite the unexpected nature of his passing, Greg's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
One of Greg's greatest passions was tending to his garden, where he found solace and joy amidst the beauty of nature. His green thumb was matched only by his boundless love and care for his plants, creating a vibrant oasis of life and color that reflected his nurturing spirit.
In addition to his love for gardening, Greg found immense joy in the simple pleasures of home life, particularly enjoying his wife's delicious home-cooked meals. Beyond his home, Greg found delight in attending live music events, especially relishing the opportunity to see classic rock bands perform. His love for music brought him joy and provided a soundtrack to the many moments he shared with family and friends.
As Greg joins his parents, William and Mary Jean Narkis, in eternal rest, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will serve as a guiding light for all who follow in his footsteps.
In the midst of our grief, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life that Greg Narkis lived, and the profound impact he had on all who knew him. May his soul find peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to live each day with the same passion, determination, and love that he so beautifully exemplified.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice of a person's death, often accompanied by a brief biography of the deceased. It serves to inform the community of the person's passing and to celebrate and acknowledge their life. It may also include funeral or memorial service information.

Where are obituaries usually published?

Obituaries are commonly published in newspapers, both in print and online, as well as on funeral home websites, memorial websites, and social media platforms.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or sometimes by the funeral home staff. Professional writers or journalists may also be engaged to write an obituary, especially for high-profile individuals.

What details are typically included in an obituary?

Typical details included in an obituary are the full name of the deceased, date and place of birth, date and place of death, a brief overview of their life including career and personal achievements, family members, and information about the funeral or memorial service.

Why is it important to write an obituary?

Writing an obituary is important for several reasons. It serves to announce the death and provide service information to friends and the community. It also acts as a historical record and a way to honor the deceased's life and legacy.

Is there a difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Yes, there is a difference. A death notice is a simpler, shorter notice that typically contains just the basic facts about a person's death and service information, whereas an obituary is more detailed and often includes a biographical sketch.

Can I write my own obituary?

Absolutely. Some individuals choose to write their own obituaries to reflect their life and personality in their own words, leaving instructions for it to be published upon their death.

How long after a death should an obituary be published?

An obituary is typically published within a few days of a person's death, often as soon as arrangements for funeral services have been made. This ensures that the information is timely for those who may wish to attend the services.

What should be done if there are inaccuracies in an obituary?

If there are inaccuracies in an obituary, it is important to contact the publication or website to correct the information as soon as possible, particularly if it pertains to service times or locations.

Is it necessary to include the cause of death in an obituary?

Including the cause of death in an obituary is a personal choice. It is not necessary and depends on the preferences of the deceased's family or the instructions left by the deceased.

How can I ensure respect and sensitivity when writing an obituary?

To ensure respect and sensitivity, use a warm and considerate tone, focus on the positive aspects of the deceased's life, and avoid including overly private or sensitive information unless it was the expressed wish of the deceased.

What if the deceased had no notable achievements or was a very private person?

An obituary can focus on personal characteristics, relationships, hobbies, or anything that was meaningful to the individual. It does not have to list public achievements; it should capture the essence of the person.

Can an obituary be too long?

While there is no strict limit, obituaries should be concise and to the point. Newspapers often charge by length, so it is also practical to keep an obituary to a reasonable length while still honoring the deceased's life.

What should be avoided in writing an obituary?

It is generally advisable to avoid including overly personal or sensitive details, negative aspects of the deceased’s life, or any information that could be used for identity theft or fraud.

Is it appropriate to add humor to an obituary?
