Obituary Preview: Roger Lee Williams Jr., 47, of Ireland, passed unexpectedly on Monday, March 11, 2024. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend to many. Roger was a committed Christian who lived his faith daily, reminding us of the verse from Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Born in Cleveland, OH, on November 10, 1976, Roger was the son of the late Roger Lee Williams Sr. and Margaret Gae McCray Williams Kelly. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one infant sister, Angel Williams; and two grandmothers: Lucille McCray and Harriet Bennett.

His love for the open road was only surpassed by his love for the great outdoors. Roger was an avid fisherman, hunter, mushroom hunter, and motorcycle enthusiast. His love for nature was evident in his hobbies and he enjoyed sharing these interests with his loved ones.
Forever cherishing their memories of Roger are his wife, Kimberly Williams of Weston; one son, Caleb L. Williams and wife, Alison, of Walkersville; one step-daughter, Jessica McDonald and husband, Andrew, of Weston; one grandchild, Maverick Williams; two step-grandchildren: Christian and Kingston McDonald; one grandson on-the-way; mother of his son, Darla Lockard and husband, Michael, of Walkersville; two aunts: Carol McCray of Ireland and Brenda Helmick and husband, Harold, of Roanoke; two step-sisters: Barbara McCartney and Catherine Rittenhouse and husband, Chaz, both of Walkersville; and several cousins and extended family members. In times like these, we are reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Roger's sudden departure is a reminder of the love and joy he brought into our lives.

Obituaries serve as a way to inform the community of the loss and to celebrate the life of the individual.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or funeral directors. Sometimes, individuals write their own obituaries in advance as part of their end-of-life planning. When written by a professional, the writer usually consults the family for details and anecdotes.

Where are obituaries published?

Obituaries are commonly published in local newspapers, on funeral home websites, and on dedicated obituary platforms online. They may also appear in national newspapers, trade magazines, or community newsletters depending on the deceased's involvement in certain communities or industries.

What information is included in an obituary?

Obituaries typically include the deceased's full name, age at death, date of passing, a summary of their life and accomplishments, family members they're survived by or predeceased by, and details about the funeral or memorial service. Some also include a cause of death if the family wishes to share it.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

An obituary is a more detailed account of the deceased's life, conveying their personality, legacy, and the impact they left on others. A death notice is a shorter, more formal announcement of death that includes basic information such as the name, date of passing, and service details without the extended biography or personal anecdotes.

Is it appropriate to include the cause of death in an obituary?
