Dale E Bauman - November 17, 1929 - April 01, 2022

Departed: 04/01/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: The town of Power lost one of its strongest ambassadors on April 1, 2022, when Dale E. Bauman passed away at his home from myelodysplastic syndrome at the age of 92. He was born on November 17, 1929, to Joseph and Olive Bauman. Dale was always proud to say he was the “oldest resident who had lived in Power his entire life” moving a total of 300 yards throughout his 92 years.
Dale graduated from Power High School in 1947 and attended Northern Montana College in Havre for a short time. He married Gwendolyn “Joyce” Oleson in Sun River, Montana, on February 1, 1948. The Bauman family homesteaded east of Power beginning in 1910 and Dad farmed the home place along with acquired acreage from 1949 until his retirement in 1992.
To supplement his farming operation, Dad had many jobs including a school bus driver and civil worker for the Air Force plowing snow and providing security for Boeing. He had a water delivery business that helped motivate him to be instrumental in getting a water system for the town of Power in the 1960s.
Dale served the local fire department for 38 years, was a two-term school board trustee, and was an 18-year member of the Power Farmers’ Elevator Company board. He enjoyed coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. As one of the originators forming the Power Senior Center, Dale helped with the moving and remodeling of the former railroad depot which is the current building of this organization. He held various offices for the Senior Center as well as the United Church of Christ. Dale was an outstanding athlete at Power High School participating in football, basketball, and track. After high school, he was part of independent town basketball and baseball teams. In later years, his energy was transferred to cheering on the Pirates while logging endless hours in the stands. No one will be a more ardent Power Pirate fan than Dale Bauman! No matter the players, no matter the age, no matter the weather conditions he supported “his” team. He was very involved and proud of the Sports Complex which was built by local volunteers for the football, track, and baseball teams. There were not many functions and causes Dale did not support when it came to the local schools. The Power school system lost a diamond with Dale’s passing. He bled “Purple!”
Three accolades that touched Dale deeply were being Grand Marshall along with his wife, Joyce, for Harvest Fest, being honored as the Class “C” Northern Fan of the Year in 2007, and being chosen for the Montana Farmers Union “100 Years of Operation Award” for the family farm in 2010.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Joyce; his son, Dean; his parents, Joe and Olive; his brothers, Duke, Boyd, and Bob; and his sister, Wanda. He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Jim) Alderson of La Quinta, CA; his son, Brad (Suzanne) of Fairfield, MT; his grandchildren and their families, Jennifer (Buck), Max, and Ellison Page of San Clemente, CA, Justin (Kristen), Zachary, and Makenzie Alderson of Zionsville, IN; Dan (Laura) Bauman of Apple Valley, MN; Gary (LeAnn), Madison, Macey, and Mason Bauman of Townsend, MT; Kori (Katrina) and Chandler Bauman of Spokane, WA, Da’Lyn Bauman of Culver City, CA, and Jordan (Cara), Payton and Paislee Bauman of Lolo, MT; He welcomed the addition of special extended family members Jared (Jana), Mia, Charlie, and Ellie Swartz of Lolo, MT; Kattie (Kirk), Marias, Marshall, and Kristoffer Meyer of Great Falls, MT; Joslin (Nathan), Natalee, Addi Sue, and Jonathan Hubbard of Butte, MT; and Kody (Nicole), Claire and Thomas Swartz of Lolo, MT. He was also an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials honoring Dale may be given to the Power Sports Complex, the Power Senior Center, or the Power Water Department.
A public viewing will be Saturday, April 9, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home followed by burial at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be Sunday, April 10, 2022, in the Power High School gym at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Power Community Hall.

Robert Russell McMillan - July 27, 1932 - April 01, 2022

Departed: 04/01/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: Robert Russell McMillan, known as "Mac" or "Bob", passed away in the early hours of April 1, 2022, at the age of 89. All who really knew him will miss his humor, storytelling, letters, and poems.
Bob was born July 27, 1932, in Marshfield Missouri to Harold Wilbur McMillan and Flora Mae Ricketts McMillan, the second son of five siblings. In his formative years, the family loaded their earthly belongings in a small truck and left Missouri in 1937, fleeing the dust bowl. They made their way to Wright, Minnesota, where Bob was raised.
In his youth, he developed an early interest in tractors and agriculture and took great pride in his FFA membership. He heard young men's stories of working harvest crews on the vast expanse of the West. This began a boy's dream to make his way to the prairies of Montana.
In1950, Bob graduated from Cromwell High School, joined the Minnesota National Guard, and went to work at the Northwest Paper Company in Cloquet. Shortly after, in 1954, he began active duty in the Army and was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Carson, Colorado.
Texas and Colorado gave him a taste of the West and increased his desire to see Montana and Wyoming, the "true west" to him. Following NCO training in Fort Carson, Bob returned to Minnesota, got a new car, and picked up his younger brother, Steve. They traveled for 21 days through the mountain states all the way to Old Mexico.
In 1956, Bob went to work full time with the Minnesota National Guard serving 11 years in all between the guard and army, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant E7. The same year he returned to the Northwest Paper Company where he met a tall, lovely girl, and future wife, Marion Nynas. They married on July 28th. August 10th, 1959, marked the beginning of his life as "Mac" with the IBM Corporation and they moved for a short time to Kingston, NY. 1960 brought an opportunity to transfer to Great Falls, Montana working the SAGE data center project at Malmstrom Airforce Base. He jumped at the chance and in January, he made it to Montana with Marion and their two small daughters. After the project, Mac remained with IBM in Great Falls as an Account Engineer for northern and central Montana until full retirement in 1998. Mac made lifetime friends in the IBM family, and he often commented on how well he was treated by "Big Blue."
Mac was a long-time member of the International Toastmasters, serving as Area 3 governor of the Montana District.
He was an avid outdoorsman, gun enthusiast, and collector. His attention to detail and research made him an avid shooter and an ammo reloading master who mentored many. He enjoyed years of hunting the river breaks near Highwood and the coulees of Grass Range.
In 1976, Mac and Marion and their four daughters moved to the Eden area south of Great Falls. Here he built a barn, garage, and custom family home that Marion designed.
During 1982, the couple took a chance to broaden their horizons and accepted a brief assignment in Guam for IBM. They enjoyed sharing the island culture and deep history together.
Following retirement, they moved from the Eden area to Hamilton, Montana for six years to live near Marion's sister, Joyce (Carter) Reynolds.
They returned to Great Falls and lived for a time in the Belview Palisades area until Marion's death in 2019. Mac lived his remaining years with his daughter, Laureen, on the Ferda Farm north of Highwood and on the prairie he loved.
Mac is survived by three daughters, Laureen Carol Ferda of Highwood, MT, Teresa Marie (Bret) Bledsoe of Philipsburg, MT, and Annette Lee (David) Young of Tracy, MT; sister, Flora Ilene (Daniel) Lohman of Coos Bay, OR; granddaughters, Vicki Ann Ferda of Billings, MT, Leanna Renee Miller of South Thomaston, ME, and Marie Michelle Trowbridge of Spokane, WA; great-grandson Samuel Trever Ferda of Billings, MT; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Wendy Kae McMillan; wife, Marion Pauline Nynas McMillan; brothers, Kenneth Wilbur McMillan and Steven Edward McMillan; sister, Esther May McMillan; son-in-law, Phillip Andrew Ferda, and great-grandson Cadence Ryan Daugherty.
The family is grateful to the staff at the BeeHive Clover Cottage for their compassionate care.
A private gathering will be held by the family at Wendy’s gravesite for a later date.

Earlene Dorothy Nelson West - April 07, 1942 - March 23, 2022

Departed: 03/23/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: Earlene Dorothy Nelson West was born on April 7, 1942, and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 23, 2022, at Peace Hospice of Great Falls. Earlene was born in Great Falls, MT to her parents Dorothy and Raynold Nelson. She grew up with her older brother Dwayne Nelson of Augusta, MT. She lived her whole life in Great Falls, where she attended Little Russell Elementary, West Junior High, and graduated from Great Falls High School. She raised four children on the Northwest side of Great Falls; Brian West of Great Falls, Terry (Vickie) West of White Sulphur Springs, Marci (Brent) Speyer of Henderson, NV, and Suzann (Brian) Bartz of Great Falls. She was blessed with five granddaughters; Britney (Friis) Gebhart, Kasey (Kris) Kulbeck, Kristina West (Jared Bryant), Ashlyn (Marcus) Adamson, Cailey Froehle (Jeff Ruegsegger); three great-grandchildren, Max Adamson, Sage Earlene Gebhart, and Adalee Adamson; and granddog, Eddie
Earlene had a passion for helping others despite living with her own disability. She started work as a CNA at Cascade County Nursing Home, where she cared for the elderly. When she became a mother, Earlene stayed home to raise and care for her children. She later served food to students in the kitchen at North Middle School where her kids attended. After her children left home, she spent her time doing work for Easterseals-Goodwill, providing in-home care to many clients she considered family.
Earlene had many joys in life and met most circumstances with an “Oh, hell” and a great sense of humor. If there was good food around, you can bet she would be there, stacking her plate until it was gone. She loved to eat and always seemed to have room for more, although no one is sure where she put it all! Music was another passion for Earlene. She played the piano and slide trombone and absolutely loved anything with a good beat she could wiggle to. She knew every song by her favorite heartthrob, Elvis, and loved to sing along to Judy Garland. She always talked about how Britney and Sage had the best piano playing fingers.
Earlene had many different pets whom she loved very much, her favorite being her cats. Her life revolved around her family. Every holiday was spent together sharing a big meal and many laughs. She called her loved ones every day to say hello, good night, and I love you. Earlene enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards in her pinochle group, having lunch with the Westside Ladies, playing bingo, or catching up in a handwritten letter. You could almost always find her playing solitaire, working on a crossword puzzle, eating a sweet treat, or best of all, smoking a cigarette with a cup of black coffee.
Although she faced more challenges than any person should, she never let her disability or adversities keep her from laughing, loving, and living her life to the fullest. She will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed by many. Following Earlene’s wishes, no services will be held. However, we will be having a celebration of life in honor of her, and what would have been her 80th birthday, on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Countryside Village Clubhouse. Please wear pink, her favorite color, and celebrate our wonderful lady with us!
Condolences for the family may be shared online at www.SchniderFuneralHome.com.

Ronald Marvin Reichelt - November 08, 1950 - March 16, 2022

Departed: 03/16/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: Ronald Marvin Reichelt, 71, of Great Falls, MT passed away on March 16, 2022. Ron was born on November 8, 1950, to Maurice and Mary Reichelt. Being the youngest, he looked up to his brother Cliff, which led to 35 years of sharing a 100 sq. ft office. Ron attended St. Gerards in 1956 and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1969. During high school, Ron developed into an elite baseball player for the Great Falls Electrics. He went on to play college baseball at Montana State University in 1969-1970. During his time in Bozeman, he contributed to his fair share of shenanigans. He even attempted to raise a coyote pup. Over summer break, he was employed at the Anaconda Company. During his college years Ron learned how to play hard and work hard. He went on to graduate with an accounting degree.
Upon graduation in 1973, Ron began his professional career and became a successful businessman. He believed that “nothin’ in life is free” and applied this to his career. Ron built his dream home in 1978. Although Ron was a wild spirit, nothing tamed him like his only son, Nicholas John. Ron was instantly a devoted father. He continued to play competitive slow pitch softball. As Nick grew up, Ron realized he had a partner in athletics. He coached baseball and martial arts throughout Nick’s childhood and adolescence. Ron loved coaching baseball just as much as he loved playing it. He always rooted for an underdog and mentored many young athletes along the way. He established the Black Sox baseball organization in 2003 and created an additional high school competitive baseball option in Great Falls. In 1998 Ron met his partner, Alanna Hiett. They shared fur babies and companionship until his passing. Their favorite times together were the parties they threw for the “gym rats.”
Ron was passionate about hunting. He worked out diligently at the gym to remain in softball and hunting shape. After 36 years of putting in the lottery to hunt a bighorn sheep, his dream came true in 2015. He won the lottery and had the opportunity to hunt a ram. With the support of friends and professionals he shot a record 185 ram. He published an article in Wild Sheep Magazine. Two years later another dream was realized when he shot a 273 elk in Canada.
When not thinking about hunting, Ron prepared for the Huntsman World Series Senior softball games. He enjoyed traveling with baseball friends from not only Great Falls but around the country. He competed in these games from 1998 to 2018.
Ron is survived in death by his son, Nick (Annie) and their children Mason, Gavin, and Regan; Alanna Hiett and her son Paul; brother, Cliff (Elizabeth); and nieces and nephews, Maurice Reichelt, Marti (Luke) Olson, Mandi (Aaron) Mercier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Maurice Reichelt.

Cheri Lynn Nelson Calsetta - July 14, 1960 - March 15, 2022

Departed: 03/15/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: Our beautiful mother and loyal wife of 40 years, Cheri Lynn Nelson Calsetta, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on March 15, 2022.
Cheri was born in Missoula, MT on July 14, 1960. At just a few days old, she met her parents James “Jim” and Jean (Xenovia) Kostura Nelson. The happy family lived in Great Falls, Montana. Cheri lost her father at a young age, but she and her mother had their Ukrainian Family in Canada for continued support. She had a very fond love for the family farm in Alberta and the traditions that were deeply rooted there. Cheri loved traditional Ukrainian food, tapestry, and culture, but mostly she loved the land and the people.
At a young age, Cheri took part in Masonic Job’s Daughters, learning how to be a confident woman. During her time with Job’s Daughters, she held various titles, enjoying the camaraderie of young women her age.
Cheri attended college in North Dakota, earning a degree in science and horticulture. Her independent time away, schooling, and earning her degree were all life events that she was very proud of. She loved her work in the medical field, having the sweetest disposition and caring nature. She was cherished by all of her patients. From respiratory therapy to medical transcription, she cared most about helping people and it showed in the work that she did.
At 22 years old, Cheri gave birth to her first daughter, Amy; less than two years later, she had Alyssa. Amy and Alyssa were involved in many activities as kids that she loved to participate in. One of her favorites was her title as “room mom” at the girls’ elementary school. She always went above and beyond to make their class parties and events a huge hit. She volunteered at the school whenever she was able. Cheri’s daughters will fondly remember cooking and baking with her at home and learning tips and tricks in the kitchen.
Cheri’s pride and joy were her four beautiful grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely and deeply. She was always sending “a little gift” or having them over for grandma time. Their school and athletic events, hobbies, individual personalities, and unending love, hugs, and kisses brought her so much joy. Cheri took the phrase, “what happens at grandma’s, stays at grandma’s” very seriously, sneaking them treats and making whatever food they asked for. She was always cracking jokes, singing weird songs, and acting silly with them. Her favorite time with her daughters and grandkids was always the holidays, especially Easter. Cheri would always put on a big spread, plan fun activities, create gift bags, and shower everyone with love.
Second only to her daughters and grandkids, was her love for God and the nature he created. Cheri was an avid gardener, horticulturist, and bird watcher. She grew the healthiest, most beautiful African violets with ease and her rose garden was her pride and joy. Cheri especially loved crafting and card making which was something she enjoyed sharing with her granddaughters and many friends, young and old. She loved to bake, often submitting many of her baked creations and canned goods to the MT State Fair competitions; earning many ribbons and bragging rights for her delicious treats made with love.
Right alongside her strong spirit was her ability to form the longest lasting and most pure friendships with the people who loved her. Cheri connected with people everywhere she went, blessing others with her kindness and natural joy, despite any health ailments or pain. She loved doing for others and always put others above herself.
Cheri had the biggest heart, sweetest smile, and most wonderful nature. She was kind, caring, loving, thoughtful, supportive, tenacious, and precious to those that knew her. She was a fighter and never knew or uttered the words “I can’t.” Cheri would never want to be remembered for her health issues and ailments. Our dearest mom would want to be remembered for all of the wonderful adventures she had in her life and for the outstanding human being that she was to the many people that knew and loved her.
She will be missed by so many people, especially her daughters, Amy (Mark) O’Connell and Alyssa (Howard) Cliver; and her grandchildren, Ethan, Elly, Adalyn, and Cora.
Cheri was preceded in death by her mother, Jean; her father, James; Baba and Gido; aunt; and her uncles.
Though our hearts are broken, and we will miss her terribly, we are at peace knowing that she is free from pain. She has parked her scooter here on Earth and is running with the angels in Heaven.
Cheri’s happiest moments in life were when she was surrounded by friends and family. Please join us for a special memorial service and reception at Faith Lutheran Church (1300 Ferguson Drive - Great Falls, MT) on March 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

Ronald James "Ron" Salesky - February 23, 1946 - March 12, 2022

Departed: 03/12/2022 (Great Falls)
Obituary Preview: Ronald James “Ron” Salesky, 76, a resident of Missoula, MT died at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, MT of cancer, the emperor of all maladies.
Ron was born in Wilkinsburg, PA (a tad east of Pittsburgh) to William and Agnes (Oravecz) Salesky on February 23, 1946.
In his high school class of ’64 Ron was an honor student and a basketball star. Playing basketball was a lifelong love and obsession, but being an engineering major at Penn State required his full attention. Ron graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1968 and accepted a position in Miami with Florida Power and Light. Before beginning his career, however, he attended Army basic training. He then moved home to let his hair grow back before making his permanent move to Miami, where he became the armorer for his National Guard unit and an engineer-in-training with Florida Power and Light. During his 33-year career with FPL Ron rose in management, working in nearly all regions of burgeoning Miami-Dade County and retiring in 2001 as the Central Dade Area Manager with responsibility for the City of Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and Coconut Grove.
In addition to his engineering degree, Ron earned an MBA and MPA at “his UM,” the University of Miami. Ron had season tickets for the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes while remaining a diehard Steelers fan and a Nittany Lions fan. His two college teams faced off for the national championship in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, AZ. When people asked who he was rooting for, Ron always answered, “I can’t lose!” He and his wife flew to the game on a UM chartered flight. Needless to say, the bus back to the hotel was dead quiet, but next to his wife, Ron was hiding behind his program whispering, “We’re Number One, We’re Number One!” He was sorry they hadn’t driven their rental car, so they could join the celebration in the streets for the Nittany Lions' 14-10 victory over #1 ranked Hurricanes.
Ron married Great Falls, MT native Phyllis Surface on January 13, 1973, in Miami, thus celebrating their 49th anniversary a month before his death. They actually spent 52 years together since they met during Phyllis’s first year teaching in Miami just after her spring break. They spent their lives working hard, loving their careers, traveling the US and the world, hiking avidly, and visiting friends and family. Favorite hikes in Italy were Tuscany one summer and the Dolomites the next. In Scotland they hiked so high they could see the top of jets flying through the glens below. Hiking throughout the US and Canada, touring Egypt, Kenya, England, Ireland, Switzerland, Greece, and Mexico led to friendships and great memories.
After retiring in ’01 Ron and Phyllis moved to a big house in the woods on the outskirts of Missoula where they hosted countless guests. Ron christened their home “Loving S’s Lodge” and had a sign made saying just that. Ron said he watched his 9 nieces and nephews grow up only on visits, but he wanted to be a “present” uncle for the 17 great-nieces and great-nephews in Montana as well as the 3 in Pennsylvania. He had a blast with the youngsters on birthday outings, bicycle rides, and family gatherings of all kinds. He had a huge loving heart and had so many friends. Many of Ron’s new Montana friends included college students who became part of the family. Ron was honored last summer to officiate at the wedding of one such young man.
Ron played basketball throughout his younger years and eventually took up handball as well. Sports were always an essential part of Ron’s life and his quest for fitness. Even during his cancer fight Ron amazed everyone with his exercise routine which included morning and evening weights, pushups, and stretches as well as a walk of 2-4 miles every day. Golf became Ron’s retirement passion, and last summer he was a familiar sight as he rode his Finn cycle to the golf course several times a week to play 18 holes. He might have been limping from the metastasized cancer in his bones, but he was determined to golf 18 holes.
Ron was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, sharing his vast business experience in service of the church, serving at various times as the business manager and as the head of the resource committee. His faith was a very important part of his life.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Salesky; and his in-laws, Don and Ruth Surface. Ron and Don, with only 19 years age difference, were good friends and adventure buddies biking around Miami, snorkeling in the Bahamas, and hiking in Glacier National Park.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Ron is survived by his brother, Bill (Laraine) Salesky of Pittsburgh; sister, Janice (Ken) Radford of Gambrills, MD; nephews, Bill Salesky of Alexandria, VA, Eric (Beth) Salesky of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters-in-law, Marcia (Russell) of Belt, MT and Gail (Mike) Weitz of White Sulphur Springs, MT; nieces Kyla (Stuart) Anderson of Great Falls, Kori (Kurt) Depner of Great Falls, Kelly (Rich) Anderson and Erica (Robert) Desens both of White Sulphur Springs, MT, and Alicia Weitz of Denver, CO; nephews Ryan (Brandy) Bowman of Belt, MT and Daryl Weitz of Salt Lake City, UT; and 20 great-nieces and nephews.
Ron was grateful for the incomparable kindness and compassion shown by his oncologist Dr. Sarah Scott, as well as the nursing and support staff at the Cancer Center at Providence St. Pat’s. During his last 10 days, Ron had round-the-clock, devoted care from the staff at Peace Hospice, a residential hospice.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a later date. Because of Ron’s devotion to youngsters, please make donations in his name to any nonprofit that benefits children — medical, food, books, experiences or adventures, etc. Ron’s favorite lyrics were from Louis Armstrong: “What a wonderful world. Oh, yeah!"
