Stanley Burton Hendrickson - August 18, 1935 - March 15, 2024

Departed: 03/15/2024 (Chisholm)
Obituary Preview: Stanley Burton Hendrickson, 88, of Chisholm, died Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born on August 18, 1935, in Becker County, MN to Eino Arvid and Mabel Ailie (Haanpaa) Hendrickson.
Stan graduated from Chisholm High School in 1953. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering.
After college, Stan worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, followed by assignments installing and activating Atlas Missile sites in Nebraska. After activation of the sites and turnover to the Air Force, he accepted a job with Chance Vought as Engineering Supervisor for activation of 3 Blue Scout missile sites in Nebraska. His experience in this area led him to accept a job as Propulsion Engineer at Grumman Aircraft for checkout and loading of the spacecraft for flight to the moon as part of the Apollo program. During his time there, he acted as Night Shift Engineer loading cryogenics and fuel aboard the Lunar Lander.
He eventually moved his family back to the Iron Range and worked for Blandin Paper Company until his retirement. He remained on the Range for the rest of his life.
After his retirement, Stan auditioned for a part as an extra in the movie North Country, during which he was able to meet and spend time with many of the stars of the film. He often talked of how much he enjoyed the experience of being in a movie.
Near the top of the list of his favorite things to do was spending hours in the woods cutting the wood that he would use to heat his home.
Stan’s greatest joy was his two granddaughters, Alexis and Isabel. He loved to pick them up after school or “rescue” them from daycare and take them to the park, the library, swimming at local beaches, or McDonald’s for ice cream or a snack. He spent countless hours entertaining them, playing cards, and impressing them with magic tricks. He never missed one of their home basketball, volleyball, or softball games, and he always coached from the sidelines. The girls loved to run errands, help with chores, and just spend time with Grandpa.
Stan is survived by his daughter Stacey (Mike) MacMillan of Chisholm, MN; four grandchildren: Blake (Breanne), Brittany (Steve), Alexis, and Isabel; four great-grandchildren: Anna, Sophie, Blake, and Everett.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eino and Mabel, brother Ernest, sister-in-law Jeanette, sister Elvi, brother-in-law Ted, and son Mark.
