James Oscar Gant, III - January 31, 1952 - February 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: James Oscar Gant III passed away peacefully at Frye Memorial in Hickory North Carolina on February 20, 2024. He was the first born son of late James Oscar Gant, Jr. and Sara Day Pender Gant originally of Davidson, North Carolina. Born, January 31, 1952, in Charlotte , NC, he was always referred to by friends and family growing up as Jimmy, and after his college years, Jim.
Growing up, Jim was athletic and played football and was proud alumnus of North Mecklenburg High School. He later attended UNC Charlotte where he acquired his 2 year degree in business. While at UNCC, he was a member Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. He also met his future wife, the late Beth Anthony Gant McDaniel while attending there. They married on the first day of spring in 1977. Together, they raised three children, Laura Gant Eslick (Donald) of Shelby, NC, Hope Gant Craig(Chris) of Landis, NC, James Oscar Gant IV (Laura) of Hickory, NC.
Jim's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for fishing and hunting. On a regular basis, he introduced his children to an array of cuisine from his hunting endeavors, there in teaching bravery and trust. He taught his kids the importance of knowing where you are, and where you are going (figuratively and literally), and that hard-work is never a question, but an expectation.
One of the highlights of his life was owning the Hickory Antiques Mall for 30 years. He enjoyed meeting the thousands of people that would come through the mall every year from near and far. He was extremely proud of the mall and all he created there.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses +5 grandchildren, Isaiah, Lilliah, Jonah, Elijah, Eliza Kate, and Elisabeth; his sister, Linda Gant Gibson and her husband, Russell of Wilkesboro and his brother Dale Gant and wife, Helen of Wilson and ex-spouse of 16 years relationship, Linda Gibson Gant of Boone.
A small Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

He remodeled his 1950 Black Ford F100 with his own hands. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be in our hearts forever.

She served in the United States Army for 8 years. She was a stay at home mom who loved to laugh, do arts and crafts and have karaoke nights with the family. She will forever be in our hearts.

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and friend. Bon Robert-Skot Eaker, 35, left us on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
Bon was born August 20, 1988. He graduated from Crest High School in 2006 and attended Cleveland Community College. Bon was big-hearted with an infectious smile and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and participated in Motocross racing and Hare Scrambles for many years. He was a hard worker, skilled in the flooring industry. He was creative in the arts, specifically pencil drawing, and had many ideas for remodeling projects and problem solving. He was selfless, always willing to help friends and family in need. He loved working on cars and his house, and flea market finds.He will be tremendously missed and we are at peace knowing he is with Jesus.
Bon is survived by his mother, Wendy Bridges Kiser and his father and stepmother, Scott and Libby Eaker, his four sisters, who loved him dearly, Brea Kiser, Lydia Wright (Chase), Rose Toney (Jordan) and Hannah Kale (Jacob), nieces and nephews, Piper, Aurora, Sawyer, Lilian, Ezra, Joanna, Jude, Asher, Sophia, and Harper. He also leaves behind his girlfriend, Elizabeth Bowen, stepfather, David Kiser, and grandparents, Robert W. Bridges, Bruce and Phyllis Eaker and Pete Heavner.
He is preceded in death by grandmothers, Carolyn Willis Owens and Diane Wright Heavner.

She loved to crochet, loved pigs, and loved her family. She was a Registered Nurse and Nurse Midwife for over 20 years and loved teaching childbirth classes. She will truly be missed and remain forever in our hearts.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 62 years, John William Black of the home, son, Ronnie Black of Shelby, granddaughter, Ansley Robinson and husband Jonathan of Shelby as well as a grandson, Brandon Cryder and his girlfriend, Alli Howell of Parker, Colorado, great-grandchildren, Loretta Robinson and Lennon Robinson, a sister, Nancy Raley of Shelby; as well as her nephews and their families.
Linda retired from Universal Manufacturing and later Carolina trophies in Shelby, where she spent many years working diligently and making friends with everyone she met. Linda was a faithful member of Christopher Road Baptist Church in Shelby. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed spending time fishing, camping and vacationing with her family. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2022 at Christopher Road Baptist Church, 420 Christopher Church Road, Shelby, NC 20152. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be immediately following the service at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Born March 30, 1946 he was the son of the late Baxter and Bertha Hawkins Scruggs and grew up on the farm with his two brothers.  All three sons received Immeasurable Blessings that come from being raised by loving Christian parents. Also predeceasing Jerry was an older brother Russell Scruggs.
Jerry is survived by his younger brother , Danny Scruggs and his spouse Wanda; and the following nieces and nephews: Mark Scruggs (Shelly), Eva Scruggs des Francs (Eduardo)' Kelly Scruggs Palacioys (Patrick), Davis Scruggs (Haley). A special friend and loved one Carol Harper who held a special place in Jerrys heart. Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Crest High School and upon graduation started a career in various poultry farming during his lifetime. He had many and various interest during his life. He was an avid Crest sports supporter and attended their sporting events regularly. He was a member of the Horseshoe Club, Sons of the Confederacy, the Herb Society, the Republican Party and the Geneaology Society. He loved music and was quite the dancer, teaching square dance lessons at the senior centers. He was also a beekeeper giving away the honey they produced. He loved studying his Bible, contemplating its message and applying its truths to his life.

Obituary Preview: Jerry Ronald Scruggs, 77, of Shelby transitioned to his eternal home on Jan. 20, 2024.  Born on March 30, 1946 in Shelby, NC, he was a son of the late Baxter and Bertha Hawkins Scruggs and grew up on the farm with his two brothers.  All three sons received the immeasurable blessings that come from being raised by loving Christian parents.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his older brother Russell Scruggs.
He is survived by his younger brother, Danny Scruggs and his spouse, Wanda, and the following nephews and nieces; Mark Scruggs and spouse, Shelley, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Eva Scruggs des Francs and spouse, Edouard, of Charleston, SC, Kelly Scruggs Palacios and spouse Patrick of Manassas, VA, and David Scruggs and spouse Haley of Shelby, NC.
Special friend and loved one, Carol Harper and her family, held a special place in Jerry’s heart and he treasured the time he spent with them.
Jerry graduated from Crest High School in 1964 and started a career in various types of poultry farming over the course of his lifetime.
His life was filled with various interest.  He loved to attend Crest High sporting events and was an avid supporter of Crest High sports.  He was a member of various organizations including; Horseshoe Club, Sons of the Confederacy, Herb society, Republican party, and Genealogy Society.    He loved music and was quite the dancer, teaching square dance lessons at senior centers. He was a beekeeper, giving away the honey he produced.  And he loved studying the Bible, contemplating its message, and applying its truths to his life.

He was a member at Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church. He worked as Manager for Pest Control for most of his career. He was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and step-father. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Obituary Preview: Jeremy David London, 46, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023. He was hospitalized from November 23 - December 12th. He was hospitalized for  19 days and was diagnosed with Non-alcoholic Cirrhosis of the Liver. He was at home with his son when he collapsed on December 21st. He was rushed to the hospital and was unresponsive on arrival. He was then diagnosed with Acute Kidney Failure. The following day, December 22nd , he passed away at the Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. NC.
He lived in North Carolina with his 3 sons. However, the rest of his family lived in Utah. He is predeceased by one son, David London.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Shaylie London; sons, Justin London, William London and Joshua London; parents, Sylvia London and David London; sister, Catherine Webster; brothers, Mark London and Jonathan London.
He worked as a Security Guard for most of his career. He was an avid hunter, his favorite color was camo. The only thing he loved more than hunting was his children. He was a wonderful father, son and brother that will be missed by many.
Celebration of Life Services will be held in Utah at a later date.

Bill was a graduate of Chase High School. He was an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer for much of his work career. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Volunteer Fireman and First Responder at Cliffside and later at Grassy Pond in Gaffney. Bill also served on the Upstate Carolina Board of Trustees. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaffney. He enjoyed golfing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Scruggs, Sr. and Lib Gantt Scruggs; father-in-law, Gene Taylor; brother-in-law, Eddie Taylor; grandson, Gavin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ann Taylor Scruggs; daughter, Jessie Scruggs; granddaughter, Luci; mother-in-law, Billie Taylor of Gaffney; sister, Mary Beason and husband, Freddie of Cliffside; sister-in-law, Robin Taylor; loving nieces Lindsey Brown and Kendall Terry; great-niece, Paden Patterson; great-nephew, Taylor Patterson; best friend, Brian Godfrey and his beloved dog, Hoss. He was a devoted family man, loving husband, father, pawpaw, brother and he will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023.
