Obituary Preview: Samuel Lee Hayward was born August 26, 1933, in Midway, FL just outside Tallahassee. He was the son of entrepreneur Riley Hayward and Ethel Williams-Hayward. Mrs. 1] Hayward passed away when Samuel was 4 years old. He and his sister Francis were raised by their father and grandmother Elisabeth “Lizzie” Thomas, aka Big Mama. At the age of 13, Samuel started piano lessons and thus began his musician’s journey. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, majoring in music education. This is where he met and married Ms. Carrie Bell Wilson. They married January 15, 1955. And he continued his education at USF earning a master’s degree in music education. Mr. Hayward served as Band Director at Pinellas High / Clearwater Comprehensive Middle School, Seminole High and Countryside High Schools. In each role he established a great tradition of excellence, which many former students have carried into their lives. Mr. Hayward was a regular member of the Presbyterian Church of the Reconciler where he also served as the choir director. Mr. Hayward is preceded in death by his wife Carrie Wilson-Hayward, and is survived by his second wife Johnnie Mae Wynn, sons Roderick Hayward (Torrie) of Largo FL, Franz Hayward of Tampa FL, Errol Hayward (Kriss) of Santa Clara CA, and daughters Jada Hayward of St. Petersburg FL, and Montrae Hayward of St. Petersburg FL. He is also survived by his sisters Dr. Francis Stallworth and Barbara Bradley, a number of nieces and nephews as well as 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation and Service at Mt.
