Obituary Preview: Paul Douglas Philpott, 96, of Franklinton passed away on August 27, 2023. He was born on October 18, 1926, to the late Clinton Philpott and Esther Preddy Abbott. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Marie Dixon Philpott.
Paul is survived by his son: Tony Philpott (Darlene); his daughter Angela Stroud (Vincent Smillie); his 6 grandchildren, Kristen Philpott, Angel Boyd, Andy Philpott (Holly), Gina Ellis, Paige Faison, and Jacob Philpott (Maria); his 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Paul retired as a Master Sergeant after more than 30 years with the North Carolina National Guard. He was very sociable, never meeting a stranger; he was known for his walks all around Franklinton. He was a member of American Legion Post 52 and Franklinton Baptist Church. Paul was a craftsman with masonry and woodworking, and a jack of all trades. Through the years Paul cared for numerous members of his family, both young and old. When he was younger, he was a member of the Franklinton Volunteer Fire Department.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton with the Reverends Harold Woodlief and David Averette officiating.

David Gupton - July 12, 1960 - August 24, 2023

Obituary Preview: David Allen Gupton, 63, of Henderson passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1960 to Mr. Alvin Gupton and Mrs. Virginia O’neal Gupton in Vance County, North Carolina.
David was known to the community for his knowledge and expertise in gunsmithing. He worked at Gupton’s Sporting Goods which was owned by his father. David worked there from childhood through adulthood and became a highly skilled gunsmith and marksman. He completed several extensive NRA gunsmithing curriculums at universities throughout the United States. His passion for the business would shine through with his enthusiasm and willingness to learn and expand his knowledge through the universities. David also had an extensive knowledge of construction and handy man work.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joey Gupton; and three sisters, Betty, Judy and Christy.
David is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gupton; a daughter, Heather Gupton; sister, Lindy Marshall; brother, Fenner Gupton; his grandchildren, Karissa, Kaylee, Landon and Joey; and his special friend Doug Marshall.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:00pm at New Hope Baptist Church, 6868 Raleigh Rd, Kittrell, NC and will be officiated by Rev. Henry Abbott.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services of Louisburg.

Obituary Preview: Thomas Edward O’Donohue, 78, of Youngsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1945, to the late Patrick and Catherine Marshall O’Donohue. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his siblings, Pat and Cathy O’Donohue
Tom is survived by his wife, Deborah Dorsey O’Donohue; his children, Diana O’Donohue Steinbrecher (Jason), and Patrick Lloyd O’Donohue (Laure); his stepchildren, Joey Dement, Christy Puckett, Nick Buche and Kelli Scholler (Bob); his grandkids, Kyler Campbell, Evan Steinbrecher, Kaleigh O’Donohue, Maddie O’Donohue, Kristin Rodriguez (Alex), and Shane Gallion (Bailey); his great-granddaughters, Margaux and Tatum; and his brother, Jesse Miller.
Tom was a great husband, a loyal friend, a hard worker with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He loved his children and grandkids very much. Tom enjoyed listening to the AM radio and reading the newspaper every morning, and feeding the birds and squirels. He loved to cook and especially grill. He was a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, he enjoyed working on cars and was a great storyteller.
Services for Tom will be private.

Harold Hunt - March 22, 1951 - August 20, 2023

Obituary Preview: Harold “Duke” Hunt, Jr., 72, of Henderson passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born on March 22, 1951 to the late Harold Sr. and Shirley Riggan Hunt. In addition to his parents Duke was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Hicks Hunt; his son, Harold D. Hunt, III; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Hunt; his brother Jimmy Hunt; and his sister, Carolyn Hunt.
Duke is survived by his daughters, Mary “Missy” Gore (Aaron) and Samantha Hunt; his granddaughter, Alissa Lagos (Erick); his brothers, Robert Hunt and David Hunt; and his best friend, Thomas McDaniel.
Duke was a hard-working man, working sun up to sun down to provide for his family and make sure they had what they needed. He made sure that his children stayed close and didn’t grow apart.
Services for Mr. Hunt will be held on September 2, 2023 at 11:00am at Freedom Life Church in Henderson, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
