Donald D. Wickoren - October 11, 1932 - October 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: On October 25, 2022, Donald “Don” Dean Wickoren passed away suddenly in his home in Moorhead, MN, at the age of 90.

Don was born on October 11, 1932, to Ingvold and Nellie Wickoren, in their home in McLeod, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in McLeod. As a young man he enjoyed riding horses with his friends. They spent hours riding in the Sandhills near McLeod. He worked for his uncle on the farm for several years before serving two years with the National Guard in Alabama among other places.

After his time in the military, he moved to St. Paul, MN, where he worked for G. Heileman Brewing Company in the shipping department for 33 years. In 1964, he met Louise Flint; on September 12th of that year, they were married. In his spare time, he tended his gardens of hybrid tea roses. He loved to travel and during vacations he and Louise visited friends and family in many states. Don was also an avid collector of Avon products, Rosemeade Pottery from Wahpeton, ND, and Fostoria collectible glass. He made a model train layout, featuring his hometown of McLeod, that is now in the McLeod Depot Museum.

After Louise retired in 1995, she and Don moved to a townhouse on the Meadows Golf Course in Moorhead. Don enjoyed relaxing on his deck watching the golfers and visiting with them too. He also loved watching trains go by. Don was a sociable neighbor who served as president of the resident’s association for several years.

Don and Louise spent 20 winters in Mesa and Apache Junction, AZ. They were active in their local community, socializing with neighbors, friends and family and taking in the local sights, including the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and the Barleen (AZ) Opry, among others.

Don was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead and was active in the Helping Hands group. He was a lifelong member of the Kringen Lodge Sons of Norway and was part of a WDAY Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise; his son, Matthew Wickoren, St. Paul, MN; brother, Vern (Nancy) of Fargo; sisters-in-law, Kay Wickoren, Wyndmere, ND, and Barb Flint, Dilworth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Ingvold and Nellie; brothers, Earl (Merlie and Pat), and Ardell; sisters, Betty Lou (Henry) Manske, Shirley (Elwood Ankerfelt and Art Wiepking), Dorothy (Norman) Anderson, and Clarice (Duane) Halmrast; and several nephews. Don’s service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 11 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead. A visitation will take place one hour prior. Sylvia A. Dymowski - January 11, 1928 - October 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: Sylvia Ann Stigar Dymowski, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 24, 2022, in Edgewood Vista- Memory Care, in East Grand Forks, MN

Sylvia had eight children; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Sylvia was born January 11, 1928 in Warsaw, ND to Frank and Katherine (Wardinski) Stigar. She was united in marriage to Steve Dymowski and started their family. Throughout her life, Sylvia loved music and enjoyed dancing, especially the polka. A special thanks to her nephew, Junior, who always brought donuts to share. Sylvia truly was our earthly angel.

Sylvia is survived by her children; Dione, Ft. Worth, TX, Darlene of San Marcos, TX, Karen (Ed Deaton) of Highland, MI, Wayne of Austin Texas and Terry (Anne) of Grand Forks, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband Steve; two sons, Michael, Steven Gary; and one daughter, Sandra.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00AM in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Minto, ND. Following the burial, a lunch will be served at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto.

Janice M. Johnson - March 13, 1947 - October 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: Janice M. Johnson, 75, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, in Sanford Health-West Campus, Fargo, ND, with her loving husband by her side.

Janice Meretta Brett was born March 13, 1947, in Moorhead, the daughter of Milton and Virginia (Saul) Brett. She was raised on Pickerel Lake, near Detroit Lakes, MN, until she was six, when the family moved to Fargo. Janice attended school in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1965. She then moved to Texas for three years, before returning to Fargo where she worked at Harval, as a seamstress and later for Silverline, where she met Martin..

On September 12, 1980, she was united in marriage to Martin Johnson, the love of her life, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. They made their home in Moorhead and over the years, Janice worked at J & L Sports, Solid Comfort, Osco-Buttrey Bakery and Sugarsand. After retirement, Janice and Martin have continued to live in Moorhead.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Janice enjoyed spending time outdoors planting vegetables, flowers, and decorating the yard with many figurines. This also allowed her to spend time with her most recent three beloved dogs, Patches, Buster and Molly. Janice was a kind hearted and gracious lady with a contagious laugh and smile.

She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Martin; brother, James Brett; sister, Judy Smith; sisters-in-law, Sharon Brett, and Carolyn, Myrna and Gail Johnson; brother-in-law, Maynard (Eileen) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Joanie Faris; brothers, David and Robert (who passed away on October 21, 2022); an infant brother; mother and father-in-law, Katherine and Conrad Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Gary Faris, Douglas Smith and Donald, Allan and Curtis Johnson.

Memorials may be directed to Sanford Hospice.

A Visitation for Janice will be on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, November 4, 2022, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

Kenneth O. Olson - December 30, 1925 - October 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: World War II U.S. Navy Motor Machinist Mate Kenneth “Ken” Ordean Olson 96, was piped aboard his last ship on October 24, 2022. Ken was born December 30, 1925, in Blanchard, ND, to Olaf and Ida (Strom) Olson.

Ken’s father Olaf and a brother Willard, died from the flu pandemic when Ken was 9. At 13, he was already doing a man’s job in the summers working at neighboring farms to help support a large family. Ken dropped out of school in the 10th grade to work full time on local farms. Ken has many adventure stories about those years.

The day before Ken turned 18, he joined the U.S. Navy and was shipped off to boot camp in Farragut, Idaho. After completing additional training, Ken was assigned to PT Boats in the Philippine Islands. Ken tells many harrowing stories about his wartime experience, justly earning him the title of the “Greatest Generation.” In 1946, Ken was discharged and returned to Mayville, ND, where he used the GI Bill to learn auto mechanics and start a successful 45 year career.

In 1947, he spotted a good looking girl walking down the steps of the YMCA and told his companion, “that’s the girl I am going to marry” and so he did. Ken and Luella Jean Hein were married October 11, 1947. Ken loved to hunt and fish. With his trusty Mauser Rifle he spent over 60 continuous years hunting Minnesota deer. Ken and Luella purchased a Lake Ida lot and built a cabin which provided many hours of relaxation, fishing, and swimming.

After retirement from the mechanic profession, Ken worked for the Fargo Parks Department in the summers and spent winters in and around Parker, Arizona. During a Devils Lake, ND, fishing trip, Ken’s children surprised him with a trip to the Mayville High School, where he was awarded a High School Diploma. Ken attended area Lutheran churches and trusted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With 5 little kids in tow and dressed in Sunday suits, it was quite the sight. After the years made them slow down, Ken and Luella moved into a Moorhead, MN apartment. Ken hunted and fished until it became too difficult to get around, but his spirit was always in the outdoors. It would not be a fabrication to say Ken didn’t live one life but at least two or three, and all to the fullest!

Ken is survived by his wife of 75 years, Luella; his sister, Idona (Mike Ryding) Mesa, AZ; five children, Gerald, Bismarck, ND, Stephanie (Dennis Hensel) St. Cloud, MN, LDCR Wayne (Connie Urquhart) Great Falls, MT, Roger (Marian Pederson) Moorhead, Alan (Tammie DuBay) White Earth, MN, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harris, Willard, Wallace, and Avner; two sisters, Ann (Howard Olson) and Gladys (Bert Burkholder); and daughter-law, Connie (Blumer) Olson.

Memorial Service for Ken will be Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:30am in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service. Interment will be in Fargo National Cemetery with full military honors. Marvin H. Schlick - August 28, 1942 - October 19, 2022

Marvin Herman Schlick died peacefully on October 19, 2022, after a short illness.

Marvin was born on August 28, 1942, in Mahnomen, MN, to Norbert and Katherine (Haider) Schlick, growing up on the family farm in Mahnomen. He graduated from Mahnomen High School and moved to Moorhead, MN, to attend Moorhead State University.

Marvin met the love of his life, Cynthia Kersting, while both were in high school. They married young and welcomed three children, Jacqueline, Brian and Michael. Marv instilled a love of the outdoors to his kids. They all enjoyed hunting, boating, snowmobiling and taking many nature drives. Marv spent his life in sales, eventually getting his real estate license and spending 40 plus years in that line of work, making many friends along the way. He was always ready for an adventure, and if you spent time with him you were guaranteed to have a lot of laughter!

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Jacque (Kevin Karel) and her son, Jacob, Lake Park MN; son, Brian (Jan) and their children, Sophie and Angus, Moorhead, and son, Michael (Laura James) and his sons, Andrew, Christian, and Samuel, Fargo. He is also survived by his siblings, Earl Schlick and Sharon (Richard) Jokumsen; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia; grandchild, Matthew; brother, Ervin; and sister, Geraldine.

Visitation for Marvin will be Monday, October 24, 2022, from 5 – 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Philip "Phil" Peterson - June 22, 1952 - October 19, 2022

Obituary Preview: On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Phil Peterson, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away in Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, ND, at the age of 70, after a ten-year struggle with Multiple Myeloma.

Philip Edward Peterson was born on June 22, 1952, to Elmer “Tug” and Lorene (Schutz) Peterson in Mandan, ND. He joined two older brothers, Larry and Ron.

Phil attended Mandan schools and graduated from Mandan High School in 1970. He graduated from Dickinson State College and studied English, Speech and Theatre.

In the fall of 1972, Phil met a young music major at DSC, Bonnie Smokov, a farm girl from Steele, ND, After a whirlwind college courtship, they were married on August 25, 1973, and moved into married student housing. Their marriage was said to have united the Theatre and Music departments at DSC for the first time, ending a longtime rivalry and struggle for the use of the DSC stage.

Phil’s first career after graduation was as an English and Theatre teacher at Dawson County High School in Glendive, MT. After two years of teaching, the Petersons moved back to Mandan where, in 1976, Phil was called by his home congregation, First Lutheran, to serve as their first Youth and Education director. He continued that career path until 1993, serving at First Lutheran in Mandan, ND, Zion Lutheran in Rockford, IL, and First Lutheran in Fargo.

In 1977, Phil and Bonnie were blessed with a daughter, Amber. In 1980, their first son, Aaron, was born and in 1982, Adam completed the team. Phil tried to be a hands-on dad and the family often accompanied him to church or camp for the many youth activities that Phil was in charge of.

Rockford, IL, became their next home in 1985, as Phil pursued a Masters Degree in School Counseling while also working at Zion Lutheran Church for four years. He enjoyed taking Bonnie and the kids into Chicago,IL, Milwaukee, WI, and Madison, WI, for family field trips.

In 1989, the family moved back to North Dakota to be closer to their parents and Phil accepted a call to First Lutheran Church in Fargo where he served for four years.

Phil was a “techie” and was an early adopter of computers. He served as his own “secretary” at the churches where he worked which led to his career in the world of publishing later on. Phil happily spent ten years as the back shop manager with many kind and talented coworkers at the Midweek in West Fargo, ND. Working there gave him valuable experience in management which led to him launching his own business.

Phil began Peterson Productions in 2005, and worked from home. He did various and interesting desktop publishing projects through the years, which eventually led to making photo slideshows. Phil contracted with area funeral homes to create meaningful memorial videos. While working on videos, he met with the grieving families and listened to their precious stories so that he could comfort them and make the tributes as personal as possible.

In 2017, Phil took his son, Adam, into the business and together they expanded into more esoteric services. They began to specialize in media transfers. Bonnie said that they had built the “F-M Museum of Antique A-V Equipment” because Phil had accumulated so many old pieces of equipment in order to do transfers from old formats to the latest technology.

Phil loved music. He played clarinet and bass clarinet in high school and “contracted the guitar bug” in college. He sang and played for Christian coffeehouses and student worship groups in those early years. Phil always said that he didn’t have the best voice but he wasn’t afraid to sing out while playing the guitar with gusto to lead others in praise. He loved Jesus, Bonnie and the kids, the dog, good friends, traveling, TV and movies, books, his recliner and remote, and PIZZA! He didn’t like “vege-terribles”, people who didn’t do their job, and itchy clothing. Phil was always noticing things that needed fixing in the world around him. Bonnie said, “Write a book and call it “Phixing the World with Phil.”

Another thing Phil liked was a good joke and he had a sense of humor and fun. He enjoyed the times when Bonnie would say, “Let’s plan a party!” and Phil created lots of fun and crazy elements for their celebrations with family and friends over the years.

Bonnie talked Phil into adopting dogs early on but it seemed that many were neurotic rescue dogs. It wasn’t until Frampton, the miniature poodle with an attitude, joined them in 2012 that Phil finally got a dog that really liked HIM! They were a good pair as “Framp” kept Phil company in his home office while Bonnie was at work. He made the most of his last ten years and enjoyed adventures and travels with Bonnie after she retired. Phil was a fun-loving Boppa to their two grandsons and loved finding special toys for them. He knew that meant that he could play, too!

Above all, Phil was a man of faith. He came to his spiritual “AHA” moment in college and committed his life to the Lord. He tried to use his gifts to glorify God and serve others. Phil was courageous and good-humored about “living with cancer”, not just dying from it.

Picture a tall, lanky guy who was always on the move to get the job done; that was Phil. When he was diagnosed, Bonnie told him to please not be in a hurry to die and he wasn’t. Phil never feared dying and knew exactly where he was going…to be with his Lord in Heaven. He led a good life and was blessed by God in so many ways, so Phil tried hard to be a blessing to others, too.

Phil is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children, Amber of Plymouth, MN, Aaron of Missoula , MT and Adam of Fargo; grandsons, Jeremy and Spencer; his brother, Ron ( and Mary Beth) Peterson of Denver, CO; and numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tug and Lorene; and his oldest brother, Larry Peterson.

A visitation time will be held at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service in Moorhead, MN, on Sunday, October 23, from 5 – 7 PM, with a time of sharing at 6:30 PM. Phil’s celebration of life service will be on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, West Fargo, ND, at 11 AM with a pizza lunch to follow, as per Phil’s request!

Kelly Haugtvedt - April 16, 1958 - October 18, 2022

Kelly Wayne Haugtvedt was born on April 16, 1958, to Lloyd and Jean (Hoistad) Haugtvedt, in Fargo. Kelly was raised and went to school in Moorhead, MN. On July 16, 1988, he married Debbie Thimjon, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Together Kelly and Debbie made their home in Fargo. Kelly had a few different jobs over the years, but his favorite was his career at Heartland Industry. He worked at Heartland Industry for the last 13 years as a job coach.

Kelly also enjoyed activities like camping and photography. The subject of his photography was usually friends and family. He was a great cook and was well known for his apple pies and how much he loved iced coffees. He had many nieces and nephews and enjoyed all of the time he was able to spend with them over the years.

Kelly is survived by his wife, Debbie; mother, Jean; brother, Aren (Conny); sister, Vanessa (Bill) Crowell; nieces, Kirsten, Melonie, and Genny; nephew, Denis Jr.; and many other friends and family.

Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; and brother, Ross.

Kelly's memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 11 AM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Rodney O. Matson - February 18, 1959 - October 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Rodney O. Matson, 63, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with ALS, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Rodney Ordean Matson was born February 18, 1959, the son of Ordean and Delores (Bullock) Matson, in Rochester, MN. He was raised in Moorhead where he attended school. Rodney then went on to work at Matson Oil along side his dad and mom. On August 29, 1981, he was united in marriage to Robin Messerschmidt and together they had two children, Kristin and Cory. He continued to work for Matson Oil for many years and resided in Moorhead.

Rodney enjoyed fishing, was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan and had a great love for NASCAR, watching game shows and wrestling. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rodney is survived by his children, Kristin (Mike) Gomez and Cory (Sadie) Matson; grandchildren, Kayla (Nick), Kole, Aidan and Mac; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Taelynn; and sister, Terry (Marlo) Sloan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Dr. John J. Keating - August 25, 1939 - October 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Dr. John Jeffrey Keating, age 83, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at the Touchmark care facility on October 12, 2022. In his final years, he battled Parkinson's. Just like other challenges in his life he faced this one with strength, grace, and gratitude. He was a kind patient who grew to draw the admiration of the caring Touchmark and Hospice of the Red River Valley staff due to his gracious manners. Many of the nurses called him "Dr. John or Dr. Keating", as he often considered their care for him as office visits.

John Jeffrey Keating was born in Minneapolis, MN, to parents William and Marjorie Keating. He was born into a family of love as his parents and 2 older sisters, Diane and Carol, welcomed their baby brother into the world. The Keating family's world was shaken in the Fall of 1944 when their loving father, William, passed away at the young age of 36. This event shaped John's childhood and developed a determined work ethic taking on an early role as the "man of the house." His grandmother, Mable, lived with them and kept the home fires burning so John's mother could work at War Production Board.

John graduated from St Louis Park High School as valedictorian. Upon graduation from HS, John enrolled and attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a B.S. in chemistry and math. Post-graduation he worked as a computer programmer at General Mills, taught high school AP chemistry in Racine, WI, and served two years in Army Intelligence in Fort Meade, Maryland. However, he realized he was called to medicine by several former professors who felt his educational strengths lay in medicine and went on to attend the University of Minnesota Medical School. He always viewed the University of Minnesota in the highest regard, feeling he received a world-class education. He would go on to support the Golden Gophers in all areas, but he especially loved watching and cheering on the University’s sports teams.

In the Fall of 1974, he would marry the love of his life, Nancy Thingelstad whom he fell in love with while working evening shifts at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital. After graduating from medical school he took on residency programs in Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. Their first and second children were born right at the time of taking boards. He spent his residency years working at the Minneapolis VA hospital and St. Paul Ramsey.

In the Fall of 1978, with their third child due in December, John and Nancy moved their young and growing family to Fargo, ND. Dr. Keating became the first board-certified radiologist oncologist in North Dakota when he accepted a job at St. Luke's Hospital in North Fargo in l978. He would spend his early years working days that went long into the night treating patients, being a leader in the introduction of Brachytherapy, offering pediatric cancer care, and providing service to many patients in an understaffed oncology department.

John and Nancy raised their five children in the Woodcrest neighborhood of North Fargo, acquiring many friends over the years and being involved in the community. John encouraged his children's activities in the classroom, sporting arena, and personal lives and in a humble way was proud of any successes that were fortunate to come their way.

John decided to start his own private practice in Radiation Oncology in 1983 and would eventually move to the Roger Maris Cancer Center unit of MeritCare Hospital. John loved caring for cancer patients by helping them find pain relief and/or healing of cancer. His practice thrived on having a loyal staff of dedicated colleagues, technicians, physicists, and secretarial personnel. They were the best. He was in independent practice until 2001 and then continued to practice locally for Sanford and Essentia as well as at Altru in Grand Forks, ND, and in Minneapolis until 2014 when he officially retired but even then he often volunteered services to family and friends who found themselves alone on a difficult cancer journey.

John was a loving father, and devoted husband and placed a strong emphasis on faith and family. He was noted as the ultimate vacation planner, arranging many family reunions of extended family and gatherings once a year in Minnesota Lake Country or a travel destination. Some of the Keating family's most treasured memories are from these trips. He and Nancy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary--putting emphasis on thankfulness to God, reviewing both sides of family history, and thankfulness for grandchildren of whom they were blessed in abundance. In 2010, John and Nancy went to Norway on a trip organized by the Carol Juven Tours that meant very much to both of them as Nancy's ancestors derived from Norway, and John's are from the Norman Vikings.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marjorie Keating. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy; five children, William (Allison) Fargo, Annie (Alan) Fowler, Fargo, Erin (Andy) Hatlestad, Mankato, MN, Sean (Mindy) Keating, St. Peter, MN, and Molly (Alex) Buell, Bozeman, MT; and sisters, Diane, Edina, MN and Carol (Lorne) College Station, TX; and twelve grandchildren, Grady, Dane, Evie, Eddie, Violet, Sage, Thomas, Elizabeth, Madeline, Paxton, Jaxson and Willa; and three step-grandchildren, Preston, Summer, and Harper.

A Funeral Service for Dr. Keating will be 3:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2022, in the Sanctuary Events Center, 670 4th Ave N in Fargo, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Obituary Preview: Mary Lou Peterson, 94, of Fargo, ND, unexpectedly left her earthly home and the care of her three loving daughters and was welcomed into her eternal home and the care of her Heavenly Father, on October 10, 2022.

She was born to Alfred and Louetta Green on March 21, 1928, and spent her growing up years in Sabin, MN. Mary graduated high school from Moorhead State Teachers College. In October of 1950, Mary began her 65 year marriage to the love of her life, David Peterson. She faithfully prepared 3 meals and 3 snacks each and every day for those 65 years.

The Lord blessed Mary and Dave with 3 daughters, Cheryl Peterson, Fargo, Kathy (Myron) Martinson, Moorhead, and Shirley (Harry) Ueland, Fargo. Mary trusted Christ as her Savior as a young married woman. God blessed them with 21 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. She loved rocking and singing to babies and reading and playing games with the older ones.

As a homemaker, she portrayed patience, contentment, serving, giving, humility, selflessness, gratitude, and cheerfulness. Mary volunteered for 30+ years at The ARC Attic Treasures. She loved making delicious goodies for others – especially brownies, Special K bars and chocolate dipped cookies. She looked forward each week to Taco Tuesday which became Chick-fil-A Wednesday! Mary faithfully sent hundreds of cards to encourage both her family and her church family. We know she was greeted by “Welcome home, good and faithful servant!”

Visitation for Mary will be from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with a time of sharing at 4:30 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service.

Her funeral will be Friday, October 14, 2022, at 3 PM, in Calvary Church at Village Green, Moorhead.

James "Jim" T. Matchie - February 25, 1929 - October 08, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jim was born February 25, 1929, to Timothy Patrick and Catherine Agatha (Dewey) Matchie of rural Jamestown, ND. He was the eldest of four children, all of whom were born in the Fargo, ND, hospital 100 miles from home. He grew up in Rose Township until he was six when the family lost the farm in the Great Depression. A mostly stoic man, he would tell tearful stories about that time, taking his red wagon to get groceries from his grandparents; seeing men standing in soup lines. His mother started Central Dakota Business College in Jamestown, ND, which Jim eventually managed after she retired. It was here where he met one of his mother’s students, Dolores Vendsel; when she saw him she said, “I’m going to marry that man.” And she did.

He graduated high school from St. John’s Academy in Jamestown in 1947, where generations of family members were educated. He attended St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN, then enlisted in the Air Force. He and Dolores were married in Valdosta, GA, near the base on July 13, 1951. His brother Tom was their bridesmaid. He graduated Moorhead State University with a bachelor’s in education, while she worked at Blue Cross in Fargo with Ida Kolpack, the start of a life long friendship. He taught school and coached basketball in Jordan, MT, Middle River, MN, and Chaffee, ND. He led the Jordan team to win the Montana state basketball tournament.

Jim studied for his Graduate Degree in Business Education at St. Cloud State and Moorhead State University where he received his degree in 1972. In 1973, he and Dolores moved to Wausau, WI, where he taught at North Central Technical Institute for over 20 years. Dolores died in 2000. Prior to that they enjoyed camping at R&D Resort with The Traisers in Osage, MN, and Big Eau Pleine near Mosinee, WI. After Jim retired, he and his brother Tom took up riding jet skis together, and when Jim’s machine became weed laden, he’d always make Tom get off and remove them.

In 2006, Jim married Marna Kasprzycki of Wausau until 2015 when he moved to Fargo. He resided happily at Riverside Place with a beautiful view of the gardens, weekly Bingo games and the friendship and support of the staff. He often said how lucky he was to live there.

The highlight of his day was to make a trip to Randy’s University Diner where Heidi and all the folks who worked there greeted him by name; his coffee and lemon meringue pie were often waiting by the time he got to his table. With a requisite photo, he’d pose with the impossibly tall meringue before relishing every bite. Those photos were shared on Facebook and he developed a following of pie lovers around the world who also looked forward to the twinkle in his Irish eyes. The day before he died, he reaffirmed his focus was the love of his family and his hope to make the world a better place. He always looked out for “the little guy” and often said, “Ours is a very poor form of government but it’s the best in the world.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; his parents, Agatha and Tim; sister, Mary Pat Keyes; and dear friends, Karen and Bob Traiser.

Jim died on October 8, 2022, at Riverview Place under the gentle and capable care of Sanford Hospice. We are missing his love of laughter, his two thumbs up and his very dry quips, although they live on in the voices of all his grandchildren who were lucky to know him as he lived to the good age of 93, or 96, (he could never remember).

A visitation will be held at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service in Moorhead, MN, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11 AM, The memorial service will be at 12 PM, with a little lunch to follow. Audrey J. Bueide - June 05, 1933 - October 04, 2022

Obituary Preview: Audrey J. Bueide, age 89, was reunited with her beloved husband in the Kingdom of Heaven on October 4, 2022. She passed peacefully in the company of family at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer just a few weeks earlier.

Grandma (we think that was her favorite among many titles) was born June 5, 1933, to Kelly and Mamie Peterson in Northwood, ND. She attended a country primary school near the farm where she was raised. She graduated from Northwood High School at the age of 16, as she started school one year early when her older brother started school. She then moved to Moorhead, MN, and attended Concordia College for a year. Unable to complete college due to finances, Grandma then began a long career in the Fargo-Moorhead area as what we would refer to today an administrative assistant. For the bulk of her career, she worked at the Eastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota Synod offices of the ELCA. She served seven Bishops in total, retiring in 1998.

Grandma met her soulmate, Jerry, through mutual friends when he returned from active duty during the Korean Conflict. They were married September 26, 1953, at West Union Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, ND. They celebrated 56 anniversaries together before Grandpa passed away in 2010. Grandma lived and loved after that but missed him deeply, every day.

Grandma was very active in church and civic activities throughout her years. She was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, for 70 years, where she participated in Circle, WELCA, quilt-making, card-making, choir and served on call committees. She reached 5,000 volunteer hours at Sanford, mostly greeting patients and family at the Broadway facility and showing them to their destinations there. Grandma also volunteered in various capacities at Oak Grove Lutheran School and Sons of Norway.

Grandma was first and foremost a people person and most happy when she was with family and friends. She and Grandpa had several friend groups that gathered often. She loved the holidays and all other family time, both with her immediate family and with her siblings, siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families. Whether at home, at the lake, one of our houses, at church, in Northwood, on a trip or even just on the phone, she loved connecting with family and friends and cared deeply for all of them. She was very proud of and adored her grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending their sporting, music and other activities. However, she was the consummate homer, who never missed a chance to scold the refs (mostly under her breath, of course). That flaw aside, Grandma was a kind, caring, selfless, devoted and faith-filled woman. She deeply influenced and will be greatly missed by her family.

Grandma is survived by her children, Diane (Ron) Sitzer and Dan (Michelle) Bueide, both Fargo; grandchildren, Arnold Jerome "A.J." (Chelsie) Sitzer, Johanna (Nicholas) Ibarra, Peter Bueide (fiancé, Jerrica Rosendahl) and Jacob Bueide; great-grandchildren, Landyn and Jocelyn Sitzer; brother, Rodney (Gladyce) Peterson; and several nieces, nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome O. Bueide; parents; brothers, Ardell, Howard, Dale and Kent Peterson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Opal (Wayne) Pennypacker and Mary Lou (Tom) Anderson.

Larry Larson - March 15, 1937 - October 04, 2022

Obituary Preview: Larry L Larson, 85, Moorhead, MN, went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2022, at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, and under the care of Sanford Hospice.

Larry was born March 15, 1937, in Stanchfield Township, Isanti County, MN, to Albert and Myrtle (Miller) Larson, the fourth of seven children. He attended the Karmel country school and graduated from Cambridge High in 1956. He attended Prairie University in Alberta, Canada, and graduated from Briercrest College in Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1960.

He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Gail Kaale, June 28, 1958, at Karmel Covenant Church, rural Princeton, MN. They had two sons, Bradley and Bryan.

The family lived in Anoka, MN, where he worked for Sears from 1961-1973. He also served churches in Stacy, MN, Big Lake, MN, Georgetown, TX, and Moorhead. He stepped back into secular service as an independent contractor with Graebel Van Lines where he retired in 2002. During that time, he and Gail had many enjoyable vacations throughout most of the states and Canada. He also worked at the I-94 Weigh Station in Moorhead until 2020.

Larry enjoyed his retirement years immensely, being free to pursue many areas of volunteer service. He worked with the church, youth camp, AWANA clubs, Salvation Army and Youth for Christ among other avenues of service. Larry's love for the Lord and serving Him was the driving force in his life.

He loved to spend time with his family. His grandchildren were a special joy and blessing. He loved books, had a well-rounded library and was a student of history and biographies.

Larry is survived by his wife, Gail, Moorhead; two sons, Bradley (Sheila), Gardner, ND, and Bryan, Fargo ND; two grandchildren, Karl , Fargo and Kristina (Emery) Wiebe, Steinbach, Manitoba; three great-grandchildren, Robin, Isaak and Oliver; two brothers, Dennis (Shirley), West Hills, CA, and Burton (Betty), Pace, FL; three sisters, Carole Olson, Burnsville, MN, Joan Radeke, Cambridge, MN, and Dorothy Salogga (Dick), Goleta, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Ed Klos; one brother, Kenneth; and brothers-in-law, Larry Radeke and Paul Olson.

Visitation will begin at 1 PM, with a Celebration of Life service at 2 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. Larry’s service will be livestreamed, and that link will be placed on his obituary page on the Korsmo website.

James “Jim” Ness, 83, Moorhead, MN, left this world and entered the gates of heaven, his eternal home on October 2, 2022. Jim lived trusting his Lord & Savior and claiming His promises.

James Allan Ness was born on June 16, 1939, in a house in Wolverton, Minnesota to Ralph and Mary (Nellermoe) Ness, the sixth of nine children. He was baptized and confirmed at the Norwegian Lutheran Church (now Faith Lutheran) in Wolverton. He attended school in Comstock, MN through his junior year in high school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1957. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 as an Interior Communications Electrician/Petty Officer, Second Class. Jim sang in the Navy Bluejacket’s Choir and served in the Atlantic Fleet on the USS Pillsbury, Arcadia, Essex, and the aircraft carrier Constellation (CVA-64). On October 20, 1962, he married Janith “Jan” Cook at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, Minnesota. Jim and Jan raised their three children on their family farm southwest of Comstock, where they farmed for 40 years. Jim was so blessed by the vocation of farming God provided for him.

Jim is survived by his three children, Brian (Mike Weiss); Nancy (Paul Ernst) and their children Andrew (Carmen) and Konrad; David (Sara) and their children Daniel, Samuel, and Rachel; one great grandchild, Evelyn Ernst; eight siblings, Marilyn Corneliussen, Norma Olsgaard, Darlene Leach, Royal (Shari) Ness, Wallace (Audrey) Ness, Larry (Judy) Ness, Carolyn (Kenny) Kuehl, and Anna Mae Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jan; his parents, Ralph and Mary Ness; brothers-in-law, Ted Olsgaard, Lea Greene, and Roger Corneliussen; nephews, David Leach and Peter Olsgaard; and niece, Paula Rodgers.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, hunting, refinishing furniture, traveling with Jan and listening to good music. He was so grateful for his church family at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church and was blessed to have served as an elder there. Reading and studying God’s Word was a very important part of his life. He shared copies of Scripture with others through his service with Gideons International and was enthusiastic about proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and we have the assurance that he is enjoying eternity with Him.

Jim spent the final two years of his life at BeeHive Homes in Moorhead. His family is incredibly grateful for the family atmosphere, loving friendships, and amazing care they faithfully provided for him.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead from 5:00-7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service and time of sharing. The Funeral Service for Jim will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church. Nathan "Nate" Mosher - April 17, 1943 - October 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Nathan Eugene Mosher, 79, of Moorhead, MN, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 1, 2022, after a series of illnesses including several minor strokes. Nathan Mosher was born in Crookston, MN, on April 17, 1943, to Daniel Robert “DR” and Carola (Balstad) Mosher. He grew up on the family farm near Beltrami, MN. He graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1961.

After high school graduation, Nathan joined the United States Army, serving two years at Fort Sill, OK. He was proud to have served his country and to be a veteran. After being honorably discharged from the Army he moved to Moorhead. Nathan’s next four years were spent earning a Bachelor’s degree at Moorhead State University. Here he studied and received his degree in secondary education. Also, over these years at Moorhead State University, Nathan worked for a campus painting group. He learned this trade especially well and chose it as his life-long career.

He was a bachelor, but that did not keep him from having a strong interest in the lives of young people, including many of his nieces and nephews. He attended their sporting events and academic programs, shared their joys as they took their first jobs, were married, met the challenges of child raising and more.

Nathan was a generous giver among family, neighbors in his Lamb Park neighborhood, and friends. He was a farmer at heart, raising a hearty vegetable garden and sharing the produce with the Dorothy Day Food Pantry and others.

He enjoyed reading and learning. He was a reader, especially in the areas of history and current local, national and international news. He used television, radio, and the newspaper as his resources. His memory for names and recall of detail were most helpful to him as he shared ideas in conversations.

A favorite pastime for Nathan was to challenge others to a contest of cutting a full deck of cards in half with one twist of his wrists.

Nathan was most generous with his time. For example, he provided help for an elderly Kragnes, MN, couple by assisting them with driving to Moorhead for shopping, pie and coffee, doctor’s appointments and traveling to Hawley, MN, to buy lefse. They also worked together in gardening and harvesting the garden. Theirs was a friendship that lasted for years.

Nathan is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Wayne (Carrol) Mosher, Judy (Jim) Ellingson, Don (Jane) Mosher, Tom (Jan) Mosher, Vickie (Don) Payne, and Colette (Bill) Johnson; as well as thirty-two nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel R. Mosher; his mother, Carola (Balstad) Mosher; three brothers and two sisters, Eva-Jane Mosher (baby), Forrest (Joan) Mosher, Rodney (Judy) Mosher, Claude (Barbara) Mosher, and Bette (Charles) Wilkens; and two nephews.

Visitation for Nathan will begin at 10 AM, with a Celebration of Life service at 11 AM, Monday, October 17, 2022, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN. Burial, with full military honors will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Beltrami.

Thomas "T.J." Hall - August 23, 1948 - October 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Thomas James Hall or “TJ” to his friends and family, was born in Warren County, KY, in 1948 to Thomas and Clara Hall. He was the second eldest of five children: three sisters and one younger brother. He married his beautiful wife Tony in1968, in Celina, TN, and they had their daughter Brandi four years later.

Strong willed and self-reliant, TJ lived his life by the credo “I'll do that myself,” and he did that for 74 years without compromise. He was a self-taught craftsman; woodworking, home remodeling, car restoration, his ingenuity and skill set seemed endless. If he didn’t know how to do the job, he learned. He did more than just make it work, he made it right.

TJ lived most of his life on his farm in rural Kentucky, carving out a homestead with his wife and daughter. He loved them unconditionally, quietly, but in ways that were beautiful and meaningful. He lived simply and appreciated his life and the hard work that the farm required of him. He tended to have special projects or jobs he was hired to do. Or, like his last project, chose to do for himself, like his truck restoration that he completed during his retirement. He was very proud to pass that on to his young neighbor Dylan, whom he grew to love as a grandson.

His health challenges prevented him from doing the work he loved in his last years, but he never lost his sense of humor, and his faith in God never wavered. He spoke often of going home to Jesus soon, and that day finally came on October 1, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Clara Hall; his father, Thomas Hall; and younger sister, Reba Sledge. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tony; daughter, Brandi (Curt) Hassebrock; grandchildren, Jaden, Jackson, and Violet Hassebrock; honorary grandson, Dylan Weckerly; sister, Marie (Howard) Roller; sister, Bronna Jo (Terry) Willard; brother, LeBane Hall; and many extended family members and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Beverly J. Wagner - November 10, 1934 - September 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: Beverly Jane Wagner (nee Thorson), quietly joined her beloved husband Leonard in eternity, in the peace and knowledge of the Lord, on September 30, 2022, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND.

Beverly was born on November 10, 1934, in Hawley, MN, to Hinton and Grace Thorson. Beverly was the oldest of five children and had three sisters (Jodi, Carol, and Pam) and a brother (Wally). In the late 1930s, Beverly and her family moved to Hawthorne, CA, where her parents worked in the aviation defense industry in the run-up to WWII. In 1941, they returned to Minnesota, settling in Dilworth, where her dad worked for the railroad and Beverly graduated from high school. In 1952, she met the love of her life, Leonard Wagner, a Navy veteran and trade-school teacher, at a dance at the American Legion Hall in Fargo. They were immediately smitten with one another. In 1954, they became one in marriage and began their journey as a Christian family beginning in Moorhead, MN, and moving to a farmstead in Glyndon, MN, in 1971. Once empty nesters, they sold the farmstead in 1991, returning to Dilworth to live out their retirement.

Beverly loved music and especially singing. She had a beautiful voice and was featured on WDAY radio’s local talent program in the early 1950s. Music (and her voice) would fill the house as she completed her myriad of duties caring for her small army of a family. She also enjoyed other artistic pursuits including drawing, painting, and crafting. These are talents manifested in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beverly had a lifetime passion for fishing, which she pursued with a zeal that at times led to humorous situations we recall with fondness. She had a green thumb and her large garden in Glyndon provided all manner of vegetables, which she distributed both fresh and canned for her family and friends. She turned that garden bounty into the finest of home cooking which her family, relatives, and friends appreciated. Of her many qualities, none was finer than her love of and loyalty to family. She cherished her children and despite some of our shortcomings, she loved us all unconditionally. Her legacy was her family; by that measure, she lived a full life.

Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard; her parents; and sister, Jodi Hampton. She is survived by her sisters, Carol (Rick) Larson and Pam Wear; brother, Wally (Lonnie); and her eight children, Rodney (Liz), Jeri, Cheryl, James (Sheryl), Mark (Lois), Dana (Lisa), Dean (Sheryl) and Jason; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Visitation for Beverly will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM, Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.

She was born on December 4, 1949, to Elmer and MaryLou (Schenck) Rosenfeldt in Moorhead. She was raised on the family farm near Sabin, MN, attended school in the Moorhead School District, and graduated from Moorhead High in 1968. After graduation, she attended the Moorhead Area Vocational Technical Institute. She lived for a time in Fergus Falls, MN, receiving further training there. For many years, Virginia lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, working at the Swift Turkey plant. After leaving Swift, she moved to Fargo, ND. She worked at various jobs in the Fargo area, including Target, Wingate Hotel, and The Forum. Upon retirement, she moved to Parkview Terrace in Moorhead, where she lived several years. From Parkview, she moved to an assisted living situation.

Ginny loved music, she sang with the Sweet Adelines in Detroit Lakes when that chapter was formed, and rang bells at Hawley Senior Living when she lived there. She collected Pillsbury Dough Boy items, Hummel and Goebel figurines, and coffee mugs. She loved to visit with people and could start up a conversation with anybody. Over the years, she took bus trips to Branson, MO, Duluth, MN, and Michigan, as well as many other trips with her family including Washington DC, New York City, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Cincinnati, OH, the Oregon coast, Montana and one geographically challenged family trip to Missouri via Montana.

Ginny is survived by her sister, Susan (Gordon) Gruchalla of Sabin; and brother, Ernest of Moorhead. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Fred.

Ginny’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 2 PM with a visitation one hour prior, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Sandra Kay Morken, 69, of Glyndon, MN, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in her home, surrounded by family and under the care of Sanford Hospice – battling glioblastoma for four months.

Sandra, the daughter of Sanford and Irma (Hernvall) Erickson, was born November 14, 1952, in Wheaton, MN. She was raised on a farm near Wheaton and graduated from Wheaton High School. After high school she attended Moorhead Technical College and received a degree in Computer Science. After finishing school, she began working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Fargo, ND.

On November 4, 1978, she was united in marriage to Ronald Morken at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton, MN. They made their first home on a farm northeast of Glyndon, MN. During their early years of marriage, they also farmed property near Linton, ND, built a home near Kragness, MN and then moved temporarily to Fargo, ND. They resided back to their original farm near Glyndon.

Sandra continued to work at BCBS, retiring after 30 years. While working at BCBS she made a close niche of friends that became another family for her. After her retirement, Sandra became a full-time rancher with her husband, raising cattle at their farm near Glyndon.

Sandra and Ron found their first church, Knollbrook Covenant in Fargo, ND, now known as Grace Covenant.

Sandra enjoyed flowers, garage sales, music, playing the piano/organ, dancing, cross-stitching, puzzles, games, animals, and raising her baby calves.

She is survived by her husband Ronald; four children, Jennifer, Russell, and Troy Morken, all of Fargo, and Brianne Morken, Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Dustin, Nathanial, Christian and Walker Morken. She is also survived by brother, Stanley Erickson, Wheaton, MN; sister, Shirley Swenson, Bloomington, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Leighanna Morken; brother-in-law, Robert Swenson; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Erickson.

Sandra’s family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Sanford Hospice for the amazing and compassionate care they provided Sandra; and would also like to thank her friends and their support of their church, Grace Covenant.

A Visitation for Sandra will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 6:30 PM, Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.

Loren Lee Willits was born March 30, 1950, in Fargo, ND. He was the youngest of eight siblings born to Joseph and Mabel (DeLong) Willits. His father passed away when he was young, and his mother married Robert Anderson who, along with his Mom, would raise him. He grew up in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School. In 1967, Loren married Sandy (Johnson) Ystenes and to this union two sons, Dana and Dean, were born. He later attended Moorhead Technical College and received a degree in Machining.

Loren was a well-known musician for three decades in the Fargo/Moorhead area. He performed in many venues, bars, and clubs as lead singer and guitarist of the band he formed, The Sheyenne River Band. His days playing music would give him the opportunity to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN, and to record several songs. During his music career, he also worked as a Journeyman brick and stone mason while working on many building projects in the area, including Concordia College and the FargoDome. Loren married Dawn (Biteler) Thompson in 1994 and they had one daughter, Haylee. He lived in Downer, MN, and Wolverton, MN, before moving to Christine, ND. Three years ago, Loren had a stroke and had entered hospice care within the last three weeks. Over the last year, Loren began attending Eagle Valley Evangelical Free Church and recently confessed his sins to God and prayed asking Jesus Christ to be his Savior, which

brought him peace and assurance.

Loren is survived by his three children, Dana (Maria), Rothsay, MN, Dean (Mikka), Walhalla, ND, and Haylee (Joe), Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Adriana, Jesse, Mari, Colton, Garret, Amelie and Stiles; great-grandchildren, Oaklynd and Sutton; brothers, Bob and Roger, both of Moorhead, Chuck, Fargo, ND, and Jerry, Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

After retirement, Gerry and Sid spent many winters in Naples, Florida. She loved traveling and went to Norway with Sid and Europe and Hong Kong with friends.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Sid, and her parents, Gilbert and Leva (Nelson) Western.

She is survived by her children Sherri (Pat-preceded in death) Wenino, Deb (Rick) Anderson and Jeff (Lez) Engelstad. Gerry had one brother, Dale (Marian) Western, both preceded in death. She loved spending time with her family which also includes seven grandchildren; Chris (Brooke), Jon, Dan, Brian (April), Brad (Ashley), Michelle (Wesley), Jace; and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

They were united in marriage on April 22, 1951, in Crookston, MN. Margaret and Dennis built a home in Moorhead and raised their family. She enjoyed being a member of the neighborhood sewing club. Margaret worked as a Home Health Aide for 17 years with the Clay County Health Department and retired in 1992.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Brokmeier; parents and foster parents; brother, Lloyd Sorenson; and sister, Hazel Nybo.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana (John) Lund; son, Henry (Catherine) Brokmeier; grandchildren, Matthew (Kim) Lund, Alycia (Brandon) Lund-Busch, Daniel Lund, Nicole (Levi) Baron, Zachary Brokmeier, Emily Brokmeier, and Henry Brokmeier Jr; and great-grandchildren, Destani, Karson, Demetri and Jason Lund, Jonah and Cecelia Busch, and Kieron and Lucas Brokmeier.

Dezso Gerald Bandy was born on May 15, 1932, to Dezso and Julia (Kish) Bandy, in St. Paul, MN. Jerry was raised in St. Paul where he graduated from high school in 1950. Jerry went on to college graduating from St. Cloud State for his bachelor’s degree and then went to Moorhead State University for his master’s degree. In 1953, Jerry served in the army for two years, serving during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service in the army.

On December 26, 1953, Jerry was united in marriage to Bonnie Ellis, in Pine River, MN. Together the two made their home in Moorhead where they raised six children. Jerry worked as a sixth-grade teacher in various Moorhead elementary schools until he retired. He was also a wonderful violinist, who played in the FM Symphony Orchestra. Aside from Jerry’s love for music he enjoyed games, especially chess, card games like 500. Jerry was a scout master for a troop 632 at The Lutheran Church of Christ the King. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed activities that he could do with his friends and family most.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Dave (Kathy), Paul (Maggie), Kathy (Jerry) Anderson, Ruth (Casey) Cunningham, Roy (Gabi), and James (Joelle); 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Thorne; many nieces, nephews, and other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dezso and Julia.

Jerry’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11 AM, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Pine River Cemetery, Pine River, MN, at a later date.
