Charles Arnold Rodgers - October 15, 1926 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (Winchester)
Obituary Preview: Charles “Chuck” Rodgers, 97, of Winchester, Virginia died peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Westminster Canterbury Shenandoah Valley where he had lived since 2007. His family and friends find joy in knowing he is now playing endless rounds of golf, keeping it in the fairway, and never three-putting.
Chuck was born on October 15, 1926 to Peter and Blossom Rodgers in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he graduated high school before enlisting in the Army Air Force Pilot Training program in 1944. Due to the surplus of pilots after the war ended, he was stationed with occupying forces in Japan and Korea as a parachute packer. After serving, he enrolled at Colorado A&M to pursue a degree in chemistry. It was there that he met his future bride, Dorothy Jean Rankin. They were married in 1949. He worked toward an advanced degree in biochemistry at what is now Colorado State University while helping his dad as a master plumber in the family business, Rodgers Heating and Plumbing. In 1966, he joined the US Fish and Wildlife Service as a research chemist. The job took him to labs in Denver, Colorado, Columbia, Missouri, Cortland, New York, and lastly, to Lee Town, West Virginia as Chief of Fish Management Training at the Fisheries Academy. He retired in 1989.
Chuck and Jean called Winchester home since 1981 and he was deeply involved in community activities. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and on many committees; he was a President of the Kiwanis Club, something he had done in two other states over the years; he was part of the original Winchester Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering at the Winchester Medical Center Emergency Room for over 12 years. In addition, he greatly enjoyed working with Winchester businesses as part of the Calling Team for the Winchester Frederick County Economic Development Commission. Chuck and Jean loved to travel and explored many places around the globe, often as part of Elder Hostel groups eager to learn new things. He enjoyed fly fishing and woodworking - his family and friends treasure the many birdhouses, Santas, and pieces of furniture that he made.
But anyone who knew Chuck knew his passions were his beloved Colorado State University Aggies, the beautiful Colorado mountains in Estes Park, and golf. Even at 97, no matter the time of year, if the weather was good he could be found golfing at Winchester Country Club, three days a week, almost always in his CSU gear. He particularly loved being part of the annual Links to Freedom tournament in support of Veterans.
He is survived by his three children, Vicki Lane (Richard) of Webster Groves, Missouri, Steve Rodgers (partner Patty Stafford) of Thornton, Colorado, and Julie Titone (Joseph) of Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire. He had seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Jean, his beloved wife of 62 years, his brother Richard Rodgers of Denver, Colorado, and his parents.
The family would like to thank the Westminster Canterbury medical staff for their compassionate and wonderful care, his friends and the Westminster community for their support, and his golfing buddies who kept him active.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 20, 11:00 AM at the Westminster Canterbury Chapel, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, VA.

Vivian Barbara Baldwin - January 04, 1935 - February 03, 2024

Departed: 02/03/2024 (Winchester)
Obituary Preview: Vivian B. Baldwin, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with our Lord on February 3, 2024 at the age of 89, in Winchester, VA.
She was raised in the Germantown area of Philadelphia along with one older brother. She met her husband as the little nine-year-old boy who moved in across the street from her in West Oak Ln. As the years progressed, he took her to her Junior prom and she wrote to him daily after he enlisted in the Air Force and was shipped to Korea during the conflict. Three hundred letters later he returned, and within four months they were engaged and 10 months later were married. They had 68 years together and were looking forward to their 69th anniversary this April.
When Ray returned after his tour in Korea, he finished his undergraduate degree at Drexel University at night, a 7 year process, during which they had three children, Dianne, Barbara, and Raymond. Since her husband worked and attended school at night, Viv provided the care and training necessary with only small support from her husband.
Viv only graduated from high school and had a passion for children and raised three intelligent children who love the Lord. Viv was a great encourager and supported her husband as he and the three children acquired 7 college degrees which she was always very proud of.
When they moved to Lionville PA, she helped her husband start and build an Evangelical Christian church. The physical construction with other amateur builders took over a year and the church lasted 40 years until it was sold to another denomination. Through all of this, Viv was the glue that held them all together and kept them laughing, despite the paint she sprayed on them.
Viv was the most friendly and inquisitive person in the family. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. What a blessing to know, we'll be together again in Heaven.
