Obituary Preview: Vernon Harrill, age 91, of Forest City, NC passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.  He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Newton of Forest City, NC; son, Jim Harrill and wife, Emily, of Mason, Ohio; three grandchildren, Michelle Morgan of Fletcher, NC, Jennifer Moore and husband, Nick, of Greensboro, NC and Chris Harrill of Philadelphia, PA; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Joyce Crawley Harrill; his parents William Vance Harrill and Flora Jane McDaniel Harrill; five sisters, three brothers and special friend Eula Childers.  He will be dearly missed.
Vernon worked forty-seven years for Burlington Industries.  Throughout his life, and especially in retirement, he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, country music, Major League Baseball (especially the Atlanta Braves), and Tarheel basketball.
At the family’s request, a socially distanced funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating.  Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in a socially distanced manner one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Obituary Preview: Shawn David Reece, age 17, of Bostic, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Shawn was born Monday, August 18, 2003 to Marsha Rochester Cassels and Donald Reece. He loved spending time with his older brother, who was his best friend. Shawn enjoyed listening to music, playing video games, reading his Bible and tinkering with gadgets.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Rochester.
In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include a grandmother, Beverly Rochester of Bostic; brother, Jonathan Reece of Bostic; stepfather, Marshall Rippy and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert "Bob" Boyd - May 02, 1943 - May 03, 2021

Obituary Preview: Robert (Bob) Harold Boyd, age 78 left this beautiful earth on May 3, 2021 to return to His Heavenly home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law and child of God. Although the last two years of his life was full of health issues, he lived a life full of family, church and work. He was a long-distance truck driver for almost 40 years and had been to all the lower 48 states, Canada and Mexico. He drove for a number of national companies, was in business for himself for several years and retired from Truck Services of Forest City, NC in 2007.
He served his country in the US Army with most of his time stationed in Germany, which enabled him to visit many of the European countries. His love of travel endured after his retirement, when he and his beloved wife were able to take month long trips across the United States and visit most of the Provinces of Canada. He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who loved his Heavenly Father and served in a variety of callings in his church including Executive Secretary, Young Men’s teacher and Priests Quorum President. His family was the most important thing in his life, he loved the family trips to the beach, the picnics, the reunions or just visiting on the back porch.
He was a man of many interests, music, fishing, bird watching, poetry and as his grandchildren called him “Mr. Fixit”, because no matter what they broke he was able to repair it. He was of Scottish ancestry and enjoyed attending the Scottish Games.
He has his wife of 54 years, Sandra Smith Boyd, his daughter Jennifer Gosey, his son Jason and daughter-in-law Joannie Boyd, his grandchildren, Leanne, Jacob and Hannah Gosey and Jordan and Ira Boyd to treasure his memory. He has three sisters, Ruth Ditty of Colfax, CA, Doris (Bill) Phillips of Marion, NC, Ann (Gene) Harrell of Marion, NC and one brother Ralph (Joy) Boyd of Marion, NC. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ella Hollifield Boyd of Marion, brother Glen Boyd, sister Helen McKinney, four infant siblings, niece Tammy Boyd Grindstaff, great niece McKenzie Cook and brothers-in-law Jim Ditty and Ray McKinney.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Forest City, to be followed by a private family service at the church at 3:00 pm.
All attendees must adhere to Covid guidelines and wear a mask while in the church.

She enjoyed shopping, reading and especially having conversations while sitting on her front porch. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar C. Ledford; brother, Johnny McDaniel; great granddaughter, Haven Ledford and a great-great grandchild.

As long as her health allowed, she always enjoyed watching the church nursey. She also enjoyed reading and knitting. Lois was a dedicated Christian wife, mother and friend and loved the Lord with all of her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Smith, Helena Ford, Susan Leck and a grandson, Herbert Smith.

Harold was born Tuesday, November 24, 1942 in Rutherford County to the late John William Carswell and Ethel Louise Bright Carswell. He worked as a milk delivery man for many years and then for Scott Vending for over twelve years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Forest City. Harold was known for his ability to find humor in everyday life. His sense of humor never went away, even in the midst of his battle with cancer. Harold loved spending time with his late wife, Revonda, who passed in February. They were an inseparable pair. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, listening to music and was an avid collector of model cars. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Revonda Crowe Carswell and a sister, Judy Bailey.

Bobby was born Saturday, June 17, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Fred Conner and Louise Moore Conner. In his early years, he worked for Spindale Mill and was named “Super Doffer of the Year” several times. He then went to work for Truck Service of Forest City and was a truck driver for twenty-five years before retirement. Bobby was a car and truck enthusiast and enjoyed yard work. He was dedicated to his family and loved each of them dearly. Bobby served as a past deacon of Adaville Baptist Church and was currently a faithful member of the Element Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jed Drummond; three sisters and a brother.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-years, Brenda Lovelace Conner; three sons, Ricky Conner (Michelle) of Forest City, Brian Conner (Debra) of Rutherfordton; Larry Conner (Tammy) of Lake Lure and a daughter, Tracy Murray (Scott) of Rutherfordton; brother, Jimmy Conner (Karen) of Forest City; two special brothers-in-law, Roger Lovelace of Forest City and David Lovelace of Rutherfordton. He was a gifted athlete and excelled in both baseball and basketball. Caleb had a heart for the “underdogs” in the world. He had a caring spirit and enjoyed working with children who were disabled. Caleb especially loved his family and invested his life in his two sons. He was also an avid Tarheels fan.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Dan McGinnis.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Angel Watts McGinnis (Clint) of Forest City and father, Spencer Lancaster of Morganton; fiancé, Madison Terry of Ellenboro; sons, Cooper Haze Lancaster and Candyn Reed Lancaster of the home; two brothers, Jackson McGinnis of Fayetteville, NC and Zeke McGinnis of Forest City; grandparents, Tim and Crystal Watts and Ricky Lancaster all of Forest City and Sharon McGinnis of Ellenboro. David was born Thursday, August 2, 1951 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Thomas Leland Higginbotham and Billie Ruth Cochran Lofton. He honorably served as a fire specialist/paramedic in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. David proudly earned an Associate’s Degree from Isothermal Community College. He worked as an EMT in Portland, Oregon for several years and for National Textiles and Timken Company before retirement. David was a motorcycle enthusiast and coached Little League baseball for several years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sandy Higginbotham, a brother, Danny Higginbotham.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Debra Higginbotham; son, Jason Leland Higginbotham (Danielle) of Lander, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Justin Leland Higginbotham, Connor Mark Higginbotham, Kaydan Raymond Higginbotham, London Grace Higginbotham and a sister, Donna Ellis of Delaware.

Earls and Sarah Estelle Godfrey Earls. He was a graduate of Crest High School, class of 1962 and served his country honorably in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  Wilbur was an electrician by trade and owned and operated Riverside Building Maintenance for over twenty years.  His business serviced the electrical contracting for AT&T. He was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church. Wilbur was fondly known as “Bapaw” to his family and he especially loved spending time with his children and grandkids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-eight years, Beatrice “Kaye” Keown Earls; brothers, Buck, John and Opal Earls and a sister, Carolyn Earls.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tammy Cogdell (Billy) of Bostic, Teresa Hudson (Robert) of Ellenboro, Tony Earls (Bobbie) of Mooresboro, Tanya Earls of Shelby and Doug Earls (Christa) of Mooresboro; five brothers and four sisters. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. She is survived by her husband, Wesley Browning; three sons, Jared Hudgins (Kaitlyn), Tyler Hudgins (Sarah) and Andrew Browning. Mary is also survived by her sister, Cheryl Bradley; two brothers, David McCutcheon and Ray McCutcheon (Renea). She has three nephews, Chris Bagnall, Cody McCutcheon, Michael McCutcheon and niece, Katie Holcomb.
Mary was preceded in death her father, Leonard McCutcheon and mother June Stansell McCutcheon. She was born in Artesia, New Mexico on March 21, 1966 and graduated from Big Spring High School. She also earned two bachelor’s degrees from Angelo State University. One in Psychology, which she used working in the State Hospital and another in Art Therapy. Mary enjoyed painting and created beautiful works of art throughout her life. She also had love for children, which was exemplified by her work as a public-school teacher and her doting love for her children. She adored playing with her grandchildren and making memories. This past year, her love for Jesus grew significantly and was baptized. Mary married Wesley on December 10, 1994 and had celebrated twenty-six years of marriage this past year. She and Wesley loved riding motorcycles and enjoyed one another’s company to the fullest.
A memorial service will be held in Midland, TX on a future announced date.

Clyde was born Saturday, September 25, 1931 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Charles Luther Huskey and Dee Esther Shelton Huskey. He was a graduate of Bearden High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Tank Crew Chief in the 6th Tank Battalion as a part of the 24th Infantry Division. He later worked for Briggs Meat Packing and as a production engineer for Giant Foods for thirty years before retirement. Clyde had attended Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church and was an avid Washington Redskins Fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Ann Adkins Huskey and two brothers, Robert Huskey and Frank Huskey.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Deborah Bailey (Bill) of Stevensville, Maryland, Diana Simmons (James) of Chester, Maryland, and Linda Orin (John) of Mebane, NC; sisters, Nancy Joan Waltz of Texas, Barbara Huskey of Rutherfordton, Carol Sue Holder of Forest City and Brenda Minnich also of Henrietta; two brothers, C.L. Huskey (Delores) of Atlanta, GA and James Huskey (Lillian) of Jacksonville, NC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing for the family and friends at 6:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jeff was born Saturday, June 8, 1974 to Judy Tate Estep who resides in Forest City and the late Michael Stephen Estep. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1993 and had worked several years for American Zinc Products (AZP). Jeff was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, going to the movies and grilling out. He especially loved spending time with his nephew and being with his family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Herman and Myrtle Tate, Helen Tate and Merlin and Margaret Hines.
Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Stephanie Estep Phillips of Mooresboro; nephew, Dillon Phillips of Forest City; great-aunt, Betty Ray of Forest City and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Jessica Godfrey and Reverend Greg Qualls officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

Roy was born Friday, November 28, 1947 in Gaston County, to the late William Russell Greene and Virginia Caldwell Greene. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War.  Roy worked for Century Construction Company for many years and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Padgett and a brother, Charles Greene.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Patsy Greene Self (Leonard) of Boiling Springs, NC and two brothers, Preston Greene and Ronnie Greene both of Ellenboro.
A private family celebration of Roy’s life is planned for a later date.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela Stacey and Betty Jane Wishion; sons, Gary Shehan and Robert Waters; brother, Frank Wishion and sister, Maudie Waters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of twenty-four years, Elizabeth Wishion; children, Raymond Waters (Denise) of Ellenboro, Boyce Wishion (Angie) of Forest City, Gail McDaniel (Joey) of Rhodhiss, NC, Crystal Lahrmer of Forest City, Tommy Wishion (Dawn) of Ellenboro, Randy Tesseneer of Ellenboro, Mary Tesseneer of Forest City; eight grandchildren, Joannie Waters, Mikayla Waters, Amy Newton, Brandon Ryan, Danielle Beheler, Benji Tesseneer, Madison Wishion, Rocky Wishion and ten great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Plainview Baptist Church with Reverend Marshall Dill and Reverend Dennis Hurdt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jimmy was born Friday, November 15, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late Horton Rumfelt and Lillie Williams Rumfelt. He served honorably in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Jimmy worked most of his life in textiles and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He was often referred to as the distinguished “Mayor of Low Bridge” by the community.  Jimmy was an avid Braves fan, enjoyed gardening and going to auctions. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Adam McNeely and Christopher McNeely; brothers, Clyde, Charlie, Henry and Norris Rumfelt; three sisters, Pearl Rumfelt, Dot Ensley and Virginia Terry. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-three years, Mittie Campbell Rumfelt; children, Norma McNeely (Robin) of Sunshine, Jimmy “Buddy” Rumfelt, Jr. (Rita) of Cliffside and Shela Trotter (Michael) of Forest City; sister, Peggy Harris of Forest City; twenty-two grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren (with one on the way), one great-great grandchild and his beloved pet, “Chipper.”

Obituary Preview: Montgomery Joshelyn Coggins, infant daughter of Joshua and Nikki Coggins, of Shelby went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.
Montgomery was born Saturday, March 27th at Atrium Health-Shelby. She was dedicated to God through the holy sacrament of baptism on March 31st and is now with the host of heavenly angels. Even though her life on earth was short in days, she made a lasting impression on the hearts of many and will be forever loved and remembered.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Harry Coggins; uncle, Travis Coggins and great-great grandparents, James and Rosie Wilkie.
In addition to her loving parents, her memory will be cherished by two sisters, Memphis Coggins and Sailor-Mae Coggins; maternal grandparents, Sharon Peralta (Charlie) of Ellenboro and Mario Peralta of Mooresboro; maternal great-grandparents, Don and Judy Wilkie of Dobbinsville; paternal grandmother, Millie Coggins of Shelby; several uncles and aunts, which includes special aunts, Stephanie Peralta and Ashley Smith and a special uncle, John Peralta.
Montgomery will lie in state from 5:00 until 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Harrelson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 pm on Saturday in the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Chris Glawson officiating.
