June K. Boulter - June 16, 1928 - March 01, 2024

Departed: 03/01/2024 (Gloucester)
Obituary Preview: June Kingsbury (Porter) Boulter, 95, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024, at her home in Rockport. She was the beloved wife of Edward Alan Boulter who passed away in 2013.
June was born in Auburn, NY, June 16, 1928, the daughter of James and Euretta (Seamans) Porter. Her auspicious beginning was being the smallest live baby to be born at the local hospital, weighing less than 3 pounds. Against the odds, June thrived and came home within 2 months. From age 9-12, June`s singing talent landed her on a local radio show and onstage at Schine Theater in Auburn. She has fond memories of this time, even waiting in the wings with the likes of a young Frank Sinatra!
As a teen, her talent for painting and sketching portraits won her the favor of friends and teachers alike. She was also a gymnast in school. Her forte was the rings suspended from the ceiling of the gym.
Rockport was June`s home since 1948. She & Alan met as next-door neighbors in Newton when her family moved there. He brought her to Pigeon Hill where his family spent summers and they bought their own house there in 1953. It was always a welcoming home filled with love, where their children, grandchildren and great grands lived and cousins, elders and neighbors visited and learned that they could always count on Junie for whatever their need might be. Beyond family, the Boulter household was a gathering place through the years for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H-ers, teenagers, lots of committee meetings, everyone`s friends, and dinners with Alan`s global network of peers in GE. Fortunately, one of June`s favorite pastimes was cooking! She also loved reading and playing piano. And how she loved to shop for bargains!
Church life was very important to her. She & Alan were active members of Rockport`s Unitarian Universalist church where they served on the Board and committees. June taught Sunday School for several years. She was committed to giving children a foundation for their spiritual and religious quests, by engaging them to learn about religions of the world with free and open hearts and minds.
June is survived by her daughter, Susan Bonior and husband, Dan, of Limington, ME; son, Robert Boulter and wife, Kathy, of Rockport; grandsons, Crispin, Micah & Aaron Boulter, Jon Alan Bonior & Brian Rocha; granddaughter, Juli Boulter; great-grandchildren Casey & Sadie Boulter; and extended family in the U.S., Brazil & Canada. June was pre-deceased by her parents, stepfather, Harold McCarthy of Auburndale, MA, sister, Sally Burnip of St. Catherine, Ontario, and son, Richard Boulter in 2016.
June`s family invites friends & acquaintances to a Memorial Service & Celebration of Life at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, 4 Cleaves St. on Saturday, March 23, 11AM.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite-B-102 Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport at the above address. She was born in Rockport, MA, to the late Charles Boynton and Helen Morse. Mary was one of nine children. Mary graduated from Rockport High School in 1939 and, shortly after, met George, the love of her life. They shared 76 years of marriage until George's passing at the age of 104 in 2021. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she was very involved. Mamey and Buppa's home was always open. Lloyd W. Schwartz - November 22, 1941 - February 13, 2024

Departed: 02/13/2024 (Gloucester)
Obituary Preview: Lloyd Walter Schwartz, beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, liveliness, and humor that will always be remembered by those who knew him.
Lloyd was born in Yonkers, NY to Walter and Elsie Schwartz and at the age of seven, moved to Rockport where he grew up. From his youth, Lloyd had a gift and love for music. He taught himself to play several instruments by ear, his favorite being harmonica and guitar. He often could be found regaling a crowd at family gatherings, holidays, and get-togethers with his music and his sharp wit.
Lloyd graduated from Gloucester High School in 1959 and went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a Mechanical Technology Design Option Certificate. He also went to the Metals Engineering Institute where he got a certificate in Elements of Physical Metallurgy and Heat Treatment of Steel. He was also enlisted in The National Guard where he was a sharpshooter.
In high school, Lloyd met the love of his life, Pamela (Tarr) but, because her father thought Lloyd was too old for her, he gave strict orders that they couldn’t date until she graduated from high school. He patiently waited and in 1965, they married and went on to enjoy 52 years together until her passing in 2017. Pam and Lloyd built a life around their children, their community and, later, their grandchildren. They were actively involved in local politics, historical organizations, and several area clubs. Lloyd served on the first City of Gloucester Charter Commission, establishing the municipal structure of government still in effect today. He was an active member of the Spiran Lodge in Rockport and served as president of The Sandy Bay Historical Society.
Additionally, Lloyd devoted countless hours coaching his children’s youth sports programs and, with Pam, teaching CCD and organizing youth volunteer programs at Sacred Heart Parish. He had a great joy and talent for cooking and loved sharing his food and recipes with others. Thus, he started his own “Friggin Pickles” business and would walk all over town delivering the pickles to his friends. More recently, Lloyd kept himself busy in cribbage leagues and he could often be found playing at the Rose Baker Senior Center, the Pilot House, and JD Myers and Friends Pub.
Lloyd had many health struggles over the years, but always overcame them, often better than before and to everyone’s amazement, even his doctors. He was determined to never let anything get in the way of living his life to the fullest. His inspiring resilience and infectious sense of humor will be greatly missed and not easily forgotten.
Lloyd is survived by his three children, Rachel (Aaron) Schwartz, Lauren (Mark) Orlando, and Joel (Christine) Schwartz. He was “Papa” to his grandchildren, the lights of his life and whom he cherished spending time with, Samantha, Marisa and Dylan Orlando, and Katie, Mikaela, Elana and Tyler Schwartz. He is also survived by a sister, Helen and her husband Blake Bidwell; sister-in-law, Patricia and her husband Paul Parisi; brother-in-law, Alfred Bolcome, and many nieces and nephews. Lloyd also leaves behind special friends, Carl Ekborg, Ron Ryan, and Andrea Mackey.
In addition to his wife, Pamela, Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Walter and Elsie Schwartz; in-laws, Arthur and Lucille Tarr; sister-in-law, Paula Bolcome, and his very dear friend, Dennis Viator.
His children would like to give special mention and gratitude to his indefatigable care team, especially Dr. M. Arsenian, Dr. T. Kelliher, and Dr. P. Marcello. Their care and compassion allowed Lloyd to live the long and happy life he led.
A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Ann’s Church (Holy Family Parish), 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester at 10:00 A.M.

Departed: 02/12/2024 (Gloucester)
Obituary Preview: Barbara J. Schlichte, 94, died peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, following an extended decline in health. Barbara was the wife of attorney Miles Schlichte, who predeceased her in 2009 after 54 years of marriage.
Barbara had a joyful and adventurous spirit and a kind heart. She was born in 1929 to Edwin and Vyvyan Palmer in Hartford, Connecticut, and attended Notre Dame Academy and Regis College, where she met her future husband on a blind date when he was given the choice of taking a Regis girl to a dance or doing detention for a late-night poker game. That date led to a happy and fruitful marriage.
In addition to raising a family, Barbara was a dedicated teacher, first on the West Coast, then Cape Cod, and finally settling in Gloucester, where she taught at Maplewood, Hovey, and Forbes schools for over 25 years. Someone once said, “A teacher is the greatest blessing of the Lord.” Barbara was just that. As a public-school teacher “Mrs. Schlichte” had a profound impact on her students, making a difference in the many lives she touched.
Barbara said yes to life. As one of her children said, "You can take Mom anywhere. Dressed to the nines, with perfect manners, she can talk to anyone!" After her husband died in 2009, Barbara traveled more frequently, remarking once that the most important thing to wear when traveling was a smile. Closer to home, Barbara loved basking in the sun, especially on Good Harbor Beach with family and friends. She loved to walk with her dogs in Dogtown Common and later in life through the streets of Gloucester. Barbara was an avid reader and crossword puzzle aficionado.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara and Ed Wierzbicki of Connecticut, Joan and Karl Stockbridge of Texas, Miles and Nancy Schlichte, George Schlichte, Mark and Tracey Schlichte, Catherine Schlichte and Shawn Henry, Patricia and Gary Johnstone, Marianne and Robert Smith, all of Gloucester; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ryan, Eric and Amanda-T Schlichte, Nathan and Matthew Wierzbicki, Katherine and Margaret Stockbridge, Zachary, Aaron, and Isaiah Smith; her sister, Maureen Cox and sister-in-law, Helen Chin Schlichte; nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will miss her tremendously.

Cheryl McCarthy - February 28, 1957 - February 08, 2024

Departed: 02/08/2024 (Gloucester)
Obituary Preview: Cheryl McCarthy, 66, of Byfield, MA, passed away on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, after a courageous battle against multiple illnesses.
Born in Gloucester, MA, on February 28th, 1957, Cheryl was the daughter of the late John and Helen (MacArthur) McCarthy. She was the oldest of five siblings, a role that would inspire a lifetime of mentorship and leadership roles in many organizations.
A graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1975, Cheryl’s love of politics blossomed while running for class office, as well as helping with local campaigns. She was always a strong supporter of standing up and fighting for what you believe in- a mantra she carried throughout her life.
While living in Gloucester, Cheryl met her husband of 38 years, Michael. As the family expanded, they outgrew their small apartment in Lanesville and moved to Byfield, where Michael built the home of her dreams by the woods.
A home healthcare professional for many years, Cheryl often worked long hours on nights and weekends to devote her full attention to homeschooling her 3 youngest children during the week. She would proudly tell anyone that being a mother was her greatest joy in life, and this joy only expanded when her eldest daughter, Jenn, gave her three grandchildren.
Cheryl had an undying love for learning her entire life, and made many dear friends through the numerous clubs and guilds she eagerly participated in. She was an avid knitter, and particularly enjoyed knitting garments for her family and friends. If there was a baby on the way, Cheryl would be straight to work knitting something special. She participated in many handspinning groups, holding leadership positions in the New Hampshire Spinners & Dyers Guild as well as the Northeast Handspinners Association. Cheryl was a member of the Newbury Garden Club, President of the Board of the Northshore Youth Symphony Orchestra, and a 4-H club leader for many years. As a devoted reader, she participated in book clubs and was a trustee for the town library. She enjoyed genealogy and was always excited to share new findings with family. She loved nature, and cherished the family camping trips she planned annually for over 20 years. When not outside enjoying nature, Cheryl could often be found in her kitchen. She especially enjoyed hosting family events, where many dishes, such as her croissants, chocolate cake, and Caesar salad, were found. Her attention to detail within the culinary arts never failed to impress, and she felt a great importance in having the next generation alongside her, learning skills to keep family traditions alive.
Cheryl admired animals, great and small. She had a special place in her heart for Siamese cats and owned many over the years. One of her life goals came to fruition in March of 2023 when her Siamese cats had a litter of kittens. Cheryl was in her glory watching the kittens grow and play.
Although Cheryl lived in Byfield for the remainder of her life, some of her favorite days were spent back in Gloucester with family on Good Harbor Beach. Often staying until after sunset, these marathon beach days were best when capped off by getting pizza with family before heading home in her beloved Saab convertible.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Michael Bowling; daughter Jennifer, wife of Thomas Fernandes; son Patrick Bowling; son Tomas Bowling; daughter Meghan Bowling; sister Susan, wife of David Conaway; brother Kevin, husband of Martha McCarthy; sister Linda, wife of Robert Callahan; sister Laura, wife of Gregory Osmond; grandchildren Jack, Katie, and Sarah Fernandes; aunt Laura Silva; her Siamese cats Lagertha, Ragnar, Bjorn, Gyda, and Floki; as well as many beloved extended family members.
Honoring her wishes, burial will be private.

Jean E. Testaverde - November 09, 1941 - February 01, 2024

Departed: 02/01/2024 (Gloucester)
Obituary Preview: Jean E. (Codinha) Testaverde, a lifelong resident of Gloucester passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at her home, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that her family will carry on in her memory. She was 82.
Jean was born to Joaquin and Esther Codinha. At age 17, she met and later married the love of her life, John. John promised her a big family, and together they realized that promise, having four children: Theresa, John, Nina, and Mary. Her door was always open, and everyone who passed through could feel the love and comfort of home. She was happiest baking in her kitchen and sharing her treats with others.
A Fisher College graduate, Jean worked a variety of jobs throughout her career, but she found her true calling at the Seaward Inn. She was the first person you’d see if you visited the small oceanside inn in Rockport. She manned the front desk, greeting every guest with a smile and the best local recommendations. She was as much of a draw as the views, and her frequent guests maintained lifetime relationships with her, calling and texting years after she retired.
To her grandkids, who she spent the latter half of her life raising, she was Mima. Mima would pick them up from school, telling them to “meet her at the big rock,” drive them past her childhood home on Beach Road, and bring them to the Orchard Road house, where she’d fill them up with fried dough and endless memories. In an age where both parents worked, Mima acted as a second mother to her grandchildren, teaching them life lessons and hosting countless sleepovers that were always a blur of Hershey’s kisses, Disney movies, and falling asleep to Magic 106.7. You could always find Mima and Papa cheering on the kids, whether it was an East Gloucester Vikings football game or a high school baseball game under the lights at Evans Field. Mima mastered the arts of Facetime, emojis, and location tracking, and she made sure to always know where her “kids” were. She sent them a “Saturday night text” every weekend.
Jean held tightly to her faith, always in communication with God through her prayers, never asking anything for herself. She was the most selfless person you’d ever meet, always putting others first. Even when she was housebound, she found ways to help others, knitting countless scarves and snowball mittens for those in need in our community, also sending some to the U.S. Army while her grandson was stationed in Europe.
Jean is survived by her four children, Theresa Testaverde and her partner, Sally Nicastro, John Testaverde and his wife, Marie, Nina Goodick and her husband, Stephen and Mary Marcantonio; her son-in-law, Bruce Emerson; her puppy, Little Angel; her brother, Paul Codinha and his partner, Nancy; her brothers-in-law, Thomas Testaverde and his wife, Roseanne and Salvatore Testaverde and his wife, JoAnn; her grandchildren, Kayla Testaverde, Cory Emerson and his wife, Isabela, John Testaverde, Jr. and his wife, Samantha, Michael Emerson, John Vitiello and his partner, Priscilla, Kathryn Vitiello, Stephanie Hyde and her husband, Barrett, Rebecca Johnston and her husband, Cory, Rayme Lachance and Derek Lachance and his wife, Monica; great-grandchildren, Luna, Kiley and Rachel; Spencer; Lochlan and Leighton; Ryan and Avery. Jean is also survived by her loving aunts, Lucinda Labrincha and Luana Klabunde; her Godchild, Diane Testaverde; cousin, Joann Meyers, who was like a sister and cousin, Monsignor Anthony Frontiero among many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jean is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John; her parents, Esther (Cortina) Smith and Joaquin Codinha; her parents-in-law, Rosario S. Testaverde and Antonina “Lena” (Randazza); her brother-in-law, Joseph Testaverde, and his wife Joanne (Puccio).
The family would like to thank Anne-Marie DiPaolo from Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home for her loving care that she gave to our mother.
Her visitation will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with a Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
