(Cole) Atkinson, age 95, of Harrisville, NY, will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00AM at Harrisville Cemetery with Pastor Robert LaClair officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Frary Funeral Home, Harrisville. Arrangements are under the care of direction of Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. Atkinson passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Clara is survived by three children, Sherry Hearnes and her husband, Kenneth, of Watertown, NY, Richard Atkinson and his wife, Shelene, of Harrisville, NY, and Lance Atkinson of Alba, TX; ten grandchildren, Shawna Mehaffy, Tamara Gross, Ryan Hearnes, Adam Atkinson, Chalo McMillen, Liza Atkinson, Sara Atkinson, Kyra Atkinson, Leah Richardson, and Cole Atkinson; and thirty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, Amira Manchester. Clara is predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Cora Cole; her brother, Floyd Cole; sisters, Estella Tuttle and Agnes Slye, and a great granddaughter, Lily Hearnes, in infancy.
Clara was born on December 14, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to the late Floyd and Cora (Grow) Cole. She graduated from Belleville Union Academy and later from Watertown School of Commerce where she obtained her associate degree. Clara married Richard C. Atkinson on August 26, 1950, in Black River, NY. He predeceased her on December 22, 2010. Clara began her career working at the Sanitarium in Watertown, later working at the First National Bank and retiring from Key Bank as a bank teller in Gouverneur, NY.
Clara enjoyed knitting and quilting, maintaining her garden at home and was an avid reader. She was a past member of the Marble City Beagle Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Grange, and Order of the Eastern Star.

Obituary Preview: Gerald E. “Joe” McIntosh, 87, Town of Pitcairn, died Thursday evening at his home under the care of Hospice and his loving family.
A Celebration of His Life will be held Sunday August 13th at the family home, 169 Osborne RD Harrisville from 2-4pm. Burial will be private.
He was born March 1, 1936 in Pitcairn to Everett and Florence Ralph McIntosh. He attended Town of Pitcairn Country School. He married Lorraine LaCross February 16, 1962 in Pitcairn. He was employed at St. Joe’s Zinc Mine in Balmat, NY retiring after 30 years. He was always a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
He loved deer hunting, fishing, trapping, and everything to do the outdoors. He played baseball, softball, bowling, and loved watching the N.Y. Yankees.
He is survived by his wife, four children, Lisa (Dave) Gerlach, Houston TX, Edward (Amy), Mooresville NC, Scott, Harrisville, Mark, Gouverneur, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Lora Lynn, died shortly after birth. He is also survived by two brothers, Calvin and Paul, Harrisville.
He is predeceased by 10 siblings. Memorial donations may be made to Stone Road Baptist Church, Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, or the American Red Cross. Arrangements are in care of Frary Funeral Home, Harrisville

Joané was predeceased by her mother and father, Lucille and Ken Twitchell. She is survived by her brother, Lowell Twitchell and his wife, Pat; her husband, Carl Humphries; children, Michael Cossette and wife, Sharon, Mimi Underhill and husband, Billy, and Carol Bonbrake; and grandchildren, Connie Deshong and husband, Toby, Jeffery Bonbrake and wife, Meghan, Angelica Bonbrake and spouse, Zach, Cody Underhill, Jaimie Underhill, and Carla Ingham. She is also survived by childhood bestfriend, Terri Zbick.
Joané was born on August 23, 1947. She was a graduate of Wayne Central School and sang one of their school songs, “We are Wayne Central Girls,” up to her final days. Mrs. Humphries worked for the Clifton-Fine Hospital from the early 2000’s until her retirement in 2018. She raised her four children and two grandchildren and was greatly involved with all of her grandkids: they were fire within her soul.
Joané was loved deeply by all of her family and will be greatly missed. She was our Mom, Mamason, Nanapunkerdunker, and best friend.

James Wyman Manchester - May 25, 1948 - April 01, 2023

Obituary Preview: Funeral Services for James Wyman Manchester, 74, will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 7:00PM at Frary Funeral Home, Harrisville with Rev. Wrightson Tongue officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 5:00PM up until the time of the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the East Pitcairn Cemetery. Jim passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at home under the care of his wife & Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley from complications of COPD and prostate cancer.
Jim was born on May 25, 1948, in Gouverneur, NY the son of Wyman W. Manchester and Mary J. (Hall) Manchester. Jim graduated from Harrisville Central School in 1966.
On August 31, 1968 Jim married his high school sweetheart, Billie Jane Smith at the South Edwards United Methodist Church where he was a member.
In July 1966 Jim was hired at Newton Falls Paper Mill Inc. as a roll finisher. Jim worked mostly on the paper machines for over 30 years. He also worked in the stock room, switchboard and shipping department. Jim was a Charter Member of the United Paper Workers Union, UPIU Local 1154 at Newton Falls Paper Mill. He was a Shop Stewart and later was President of UPIU Local 1154 for 15 years until the mill closed in October of 2000. He worked at the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 34 years.
In 1967 he enlisted in US Army Reserves and was a member of 479th Engineer Battalion in Watertown, NY and was honorably discharged in 1973. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 1539 in Newton Falls for over 25 years.
After the Newton Falls Paper Mill closed, he worked for North Counties Supply in Philadelphia, NY as a delivery driver and warehouse worker. He also worked for Newstech Paper Mill in Deferiet, NY as a roll finisher and tow motor operator until it closed. Jim worked for Lear Siegler at Fort Drum, NY as Material Coordinator for Tenth Mountain Division in the 2nd and 3rd Brigade. He retired in January of 2009.
Jim was a Town of Pitcairn Town Justice for 39 years and was a member of the NYS Magistrates Association retiring on April 1, 2018. He shared this position with his uncle, Jon E. Hall. They divided the duties by holding court every other month-Jon worked during the odd months and James worked the even months.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Billie Jane; two sons, James R. (Joanna) Manchester of Harrisville and Thomas J. (Kristina) Manchester of Harrisville; a daughter, Julie A. (Samuel) Bush of Ogdensburg; a sister Carol J. (John) Hooper of Harrisville; and an uncle, Jon E. Hall (Bea Bango) of Harrisville. Jim & Billie enjoyed watching their nine grandchildren grow: Page (Josh) Hartle, of Harrisville & Jack Manchester and his fiancée Skylyr McMillen of Carthage; Dr. Emily (Arian) Jaberi of Suffolk, VA & Ally Bush of Ogdensburg; Anna Manchester and fiancé Garrett Arnold of Natural Bridge, Amy Manchester of Evans Mills, Cameron & Nora Manchester and Brody Smith, all of Harrisville. They were thrilled to become great-grandparents to Lettie Jo, Lennox James & Stella Angeline and have two more great-grands on the way. Also survived by 2 sisters in law: James (Linda) Phillips of Cleveland, OH, Kevin (Michelle) Virkler of Lowville: 3 brothers in law: Phillip (Susan) Smith of Shortsville, Chuck Smith of Harrisville, and James (Lisa) Smith of Harrisville.
Jim was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Karen Joyce Manchester.
Jim was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching every game in retirement without worrying if the games went into extra innings- because he didn't have to work in the morning. He also became an experienced Facebook user. He loved reconnecting with many old friends. He was very proud to share endless pictures & posts of his family.

Mr. Ogrodnik passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Lewis County General Hospital-Nursing Home Unit.
Edwin is survived by a brother, Robert E. Ogrodnik and his wife, Carol Jean, of Virginia Beach, Va., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edwin is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Gladys Ogrodnik; and two brothers, Joseph D. Ogrodnik in 1972 and Leonard W. Ogrodnik in 1988.
Edwin was born on October 8, 1935, in Harrisville, NY, the son of the late Walter Stanley and Gladys Olive (McRobbie) Ogrodnik. He attended local schools in the area.
Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading magazines.

Mr. Mallette passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at his home.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Mallette of Harrisville, NY; his daughter, Shannon Moore and her husband, Victor, of Harrisville, NY; two granddaughters, Harlie Moore and Torie Moore, all of Harrisville, NY; a step grandson, Tazeren Moore of Harrisville, NY; his siblings, two sisters, Cathy Smith and her husband, Kenn, of Fort Ann, NY and Pamela Newcombe and her husband, Larry, of Whitehall, NY and a brother, Kevin Mallette of Florida. He is predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Eleanor Mallette.
Donald was born on May 24, 1948, in Carthage, NY, the son of the late Gerald L. and Eleanor (Goodrow) Mallette. Donald graduated from Harrisville Central School in 1966. He married Thelma Sullivan on September 14, 1974, at St Francis Solanus Church with Father Lalonde officiating. Donald worked for his father at his garage and later opened his own autobody business in 1970, called Alpine Auto Body in Harrisville. Mr. Mallette also worked for Viking Cives, Inc. in Harrisville as a contractor undercoating the body of state trucks. He also served at the Pitcairn town supervisor for several years.
Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling, and four wheeling. He loved watching the birds and squirrels.

Gloria M. Dowling - February 21, 1931 - December 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Guests attending the Celebration of the Lives of Gloria (Luther) Dowling and Wendell R. Dowling may come and go any time from 2 to 5 p.m. at their Celebration of Life on Tuesday, July 18 at the Social Hall of the United Methodist Church, Maple Street, Harrisville. Near the conclusion, a portion of their cremated remains will be lovingly and respectfully spread over the sparkling waters of the nearby Oswegatchie River. Later, other portions will be offered to the summer breezes over local places that were special to the couple.
Mrs. Dowling passed away Dec. 1st, 2022 and Mr. Dowling died in 2013. Longtime residents of Oswegatchie, the couple moved to Hands Flat Road Harrisville in the 1980's. Their four surviving children are Richard Dowling and Susan VanSant of Harrisville, Alice Donnelly of Florida and Thomas Dowling of Hannibal, NY. Four sons, Wendell Jr., Mark, Michael and John are deceased. The sons' lives will also be celebrated July 18 and a portion of Mark's ashes will be respectfully placed at some of his favorite fishing holes.
At the convenience of the family, the remaining ashes will be placed at the family plot in Fine Cemetery.
Gloria M. (Luther) Dowling of Harrisville and Oswegatchie passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2022, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton. She was 91.
Gloria is survived by two sons, Richard V. Dowling of Harrisville and Thomas A. Dowling of Hannibal; two daughters, Susan R. VanSant of Harrisville and Alice C. Donnelly of Hudson, FL; a brother, Ranald B. Luther of Lowville and a sister, Sandra J. Metcalf of Port Leyden, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two sons, John and Michael, who died in infancy and two adult sons, Wendell R. Dowling Jr of Fine and Mark A. Dowling of Oswegatchie.
Gloria was born on Feburary 21, 1931, in Harrisville, one of ten children of the late Roy and Ruth E. (Atkinson) Luther. She graduated as valedictorian from Harrisville High School in 1947 and married Wendell R. Dowling on Nov. 28, 1947, in Harrisville. The Dowling family called Oswegatchie home for many years and the couple moved to Hands Flat Road Harrisville in the 1980's. He died Aug. 11, 2013.
In addition to being a devoted mother, skilled deer hunter, avid bowler, accomplished cook and pretty-good homemaker, she began working at Fort Drum prior to the arrival of the 10th Mt. Division. Her career progressed through jobs in the housing office, post motor pool and various finance-related offices. She retired as an account tech with the 33rd Financial Support Unit, US Army Garrison, Fort Drum in 1991.

Wicks, Jr. of Lowville, NY, Lena Denicola and her husband, James, of North Carolina, and Richard Wicks of North Carolina; three sisters, Thelma Bango of Carthage, NY, Helen Dundon of Florida and Bernice “Rea” Ingraham of Sackets Harbor, NY; nineteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and cousins. Marion is predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Sullivan, and Thomas J. Sullivan Sr and two sisters, Florence “Tootie” Tuttle, and Pauline R. “Polly” Hall.
Marion was born on December 5, 1938, in Gouverneur, NY, the daughter of the late Guy and Helen Barnes Sullivan. She attended local schools in Edwards, NY. Marion was employed at various locations throughout the North Country in the hospitality industry.
Marion enjoyed macramé and cooking.

Robert is survived by his mother, Edna Coffie of Harrisville, NY; his siblings, Marsha Hernandez and her husband, Armando, of Pitcairn, NY, Delilah Wilson and her husband, Monty, of Palm Bay, FL, Larry Coffie of Harrisville, NY, Gary Coffie and his significant other, Robb Brigham, of Merritt Island, FL, Karen Hubbard of Fowler, NY, Donna Brown and her husband, Russ, of Harrisville, NY, Steve Coffie of Palm Bay, FL and over twenty nieces and nephews, over twenty-five great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Gerold Coffie; a brother, Dale Edward Coffie , his brother-in-law, Duane Hubbard, his nephew, Eric D. Hubbard . (Orville), and his beloved dog, Teddy Bear.
Robert was born on October 4, 1947, in Clyde, NY, the son of Gerold and Edna (Durham) Coffie. He attended Harrisville Central School. Robert was a master at tinkering with bikes and small engine repair. He could be seen riding his bike with his basket all over town, visiting with everyone he met.
Robert loved to make beaded bracelets and crafts, go fishing, woodworking, gardening, lawn mower repair, ride his bike, pick raspberries and blackberries, play Yahtzee and BINGO, watch John Wayne, old western movies, cartoons and his favorite TV channel, TV Land where he would watch Andy Griffith, Bonanza, MASH and Gun Smoke. He also enjoyed going to church services where he loved to wear his neck ties and dress up. Robert loved Halloween, wearing themed holiday hats, and watching little league games across the street where he could buy candy bars. Robert's family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Keep Home for the care and compassion for the last four years.
