Obituary Preview: Marie (Moroso) Palumbo, 93, of Westerly, joined her heavenly family on Friday, February 2, 2024 in her home, surrounded by her family.
Marie was born in Westerly, the daughter of the late Annie and Salvatore “Tutti” Moroso. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph Palumbo, and her brothers, Anthony Moroso and Leo Moroso, Sr.
Marie retired from the Westerly School system in 1990. She started her career as a volunteer in the hallways of State Street School. She handed out books to children before school libraries were incorporated into public schools. The principal offered her a job when the first library was opened, and she spent more than 20 years in the school’s libraries, until her retirement.
She enjoyed having her summers off with her family. She spent more than 20 years in Florida enjoying retired life with her beloved husband until his passing in 1999. Marie made many friends and enjoyed traveling, being a part of the club house theatre, and collecting toys for kids in her community. She belonged to the sewing club, helped in the gift shop, and enjoyed playing cards with her card group. Marie was always ready to go anywhere. Her biggest joy came when her family and friends came to visit, always the best hostess. She spent her final four years back in Westerly, enjoying her family, with trips to family functions, dinners out, and the casino with her brother.
She leaves behind her three daughters, Carol (Palumbo) Korineck and her husband Joseph of East Lyme, CT, Diane (Palumbo) York and her husband Alfred of Westerly, and JoAnn Palumbo of Wood River Jct., RI. The family would like to thank her private care aide, Debbie Mosena, whom she loved and without whom we could not have given our mom home care. God sent us our own angel.
We would also like to thank Beacon Hospice for providing all the comfort and care we could have asked for.
