Obituary Preview: William A. Estes, was born in Wake Forest, North Carolina, on March 31, 1935, to the late Isaiah Estes and Nellie Kittrell Estes. He peacefully departed from this world on February 13, 2024 at home.
Al was a 1955 graduate of Dubois High School in Wake Forest. He endeared himself to many with his warm, charming and infectious personality. After high school, he settled in New York’s Hudson Valley, where he met and married Arrimenta Fisher.
He was a dedicated worker at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 35 years and devoted 29 years of service to St. John's Lutheran Church.
“Big” Al knew his way around the grill and kitchen, and we all reaped the benefits of his culinary skills. He was an avid jazz enthusiast and Washington Redskins fan.
Al will be remembered for his kindness, laughter and dedication to family and friends. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit lives on in the cherished memories and loved ones he leaves behind.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Isaiah and Nellie Estes; siblings Blanche Estes Williams, Issac Estes, Robert L. Estes, Clarence C. Estes and Pearl Louise Burnett.
He is survived by his wife Arrimenta F. Estes, two daughters, Tracey Bodner (Bradford) of Raleigh, NC and Leslie F. Estes of Arlington, VA, one son Michael Hillman of Arlington, VA , one granddaughter, Holland Bodner and two grandsons, Chandler Bodner and Maxwell Estes.

Obituary Preview: June Karen Allen, born June Karen Slayton, entered this world on June 24,1962, and left for her heavenly home on January 24, 2024. She was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Lucille and the late Willie Slayton. She attended the Halifax County public school system until the age of 12 at which time she relocated to New Castle, Delaware. There she attended DeLaWarr School and graduated from William Penn High School. June then attended a travelers college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to become an airline stewardess. She shifted directions and became a secretary for the University of Delaware library, after which June became a ticket issuer for the Greyhound bus station. Eventually, she ended her career as a banker with First Union Bank.
At the age of nine June dedicated her life to the Lord at first Buffalo Baptist Church in Virginia and as an adult attended New Hope Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, and Union Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware. From her first union, June gave birth to the late Kendall Bryant Jr. and Kristin (Bryant) Blake. In her second union, she spent 28 years with her loving husband Vinson Allen, with whom she liked to travel, laugh, and create special memories. June was known for her exquisite desserts, especially her much-loved strawberry cheesecake but she would not share the recipe. June loved to work in the yard planting flowers. You could find her on the dance floor at any function and enjoyed being in the presence of her family and friends. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and participate in activities as well as her favorite shows Blue Bloods and The Price is Right. June is survived by her husband, Vinson Allen; daughter, Kristin Blake; son-in-law, Cory Blake; granddaughters, Kyndol Bryant and Riley Blake, grandson, Ja’Cori Bryant–Blake, mother Lucille Waters, brothers, Willie (Jerry) Slayton (Tonya), Dwayne Slayton (Bert), Earl Slayton (Sakinah), and sister Camille Miller, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended fa

in many different arenas. Ruby enjoyed her last place of employment which was Sara Lee in Tarboro, NC. She also loved the senior community where she resided for the past few years. Often, she would sit downstairs to sing and testify to the residents about the goodness of Jesus. She was not ashamed to proclaim the name of the Lord. Before retirement, Ruby loved cooking and decorating. She was outspoken and very, very comical. Ruby was very friendly, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Ray Wiggins after 28 years of marriage; and
three brothers, Council Randolph, William Randolph, and Charlie James Randolph. Ruby leaves to cherish her four sons and three daughters, Russell Randolph of High Point, NC, Izell Randolph (Angela) of Raleigh, NC, Katie Richardson (Rodney) of Wilson, NC, Walter Randolph (Teresa) of Tarboro, NC, Alton Higgs of Long Island, NY, Angelia Daughteridge (Thomas) of Wilson, NC, and Sharon Higgs of Raleigh, NC; five sisters, Mary Frances Randolph of Tarboro, NC, Ada B. Dorothy E. Collins - April 27, 1926 - January 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dorothy Elnora Collins, affectionately known as “Doll,” was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 22, 2024; surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In Quinnimont, WV, Fayette County, Doll was born on April 27, 1926, to her late parents, Charles and Bertha Jackson.
In 1947, Dororthy married the love of her life, Willie “Wolfcat” Collins, raised eight children, and stayed adventurously married until his passing in 1991.
As a young woman, with primary education, Dorothy began to blossom into a phenomenal hairdresser, seamstress, and homemaker. Alongside her career, she enjoyed canning, cooking homemade meals, baking bread, taking care of her grandchildren, and devoting her life in West Virginia at McAlpin Church, Stotesbury Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, and served as one of the Mothers of Church at Heart of God Ministries.
To be closer to her family, Doll moved to Raleigh, NC in 2009 and joined Abundant Life Christian Center and continued to serve as one of the Mothers of the church and mentor young women. As we all knew Doll, she has never met a stranger. From Doll’s first “Heyyy” she was forever friends with anyone she met. She was courageous, outspoken, funny, strong-willed, and faithful.
Dorothy is preceded in death by both her parents, husband, Willie Collins Sr; children, Lawrence Jackson, Cora Donzella Collins, and Willie Jr. Collins; grandchildren, Debbie Jackson and Velina Ann Collins; sisters, Geneva Jackson, Annie Mae Dearmon Jones, and Lou Bertha Dearmon; and brothers, Charles Jackson, James Dearmon, Willie “Ranzie” Dearmon, Isaiah Zennie Dearmon, and George C. Dearmon.
Doll is survived by her sister, Evelyn Turner of Columbus, Ohio; children, Sylvia Jean Small of Cary, NC, Loretta Jo Walker of Knightdale, NC, Dwight Collins of Patterson, NJ, Bertha Hurtte (Tyrone) of Raleigh, NC, Tony Collins (Sharon) of Raleigh, NC, 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews and her beloved son-in-law Jimmie Williams.
