Obituary Preview: Dr. John (Andy) Butler, 71, of Sugar Camp, a beloved partner, father, brother, and Wausau Plastic Surgeon, passed away peacefully on April 23, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by his family and close friend Dr. Tom Stoffel.

John was a man who made a profound impact on everyone he met. This included his friends and patients. He took great interest in others and the stories they had to share. To those who knew and loved John, he will be remembered for his love of family especially his boys Tayte and Jonathan, his storytelling, sense of humor, generosity, reading, and music. He also loved fishing, hunting, and hiking with neighbors and friends at his home in Sugar Camp.

John was born on December 11, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, to Jack and Betty Butler. He graduated in 1969, from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, WI. He went to Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and received a B.A. in Biology in 1973. John continued his education attending the University of Chicago earning a degree in Respiratory Therapy. With the encouragement of Dr. Phil Hacker, John then earned his Doctorate Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison WI, in 1988. He was board certified in Plastics and General Surgery. Following his residency, John and his family moved to Wausau, WI, and joined the Plastic Surgery Group. John practiced with this independent group (Plastic Surgery and Vein Clinic) until his retirement in July 2016. He was also very instrumental in the formation of Wausau Surgery Center, the first surgery center in the Wausau area. John was a Visionary who could see the focus of health care for the future. He served as the Medical Director and Partnership Chairman for many years during his career at the Wausau Surgery Center.

While his many achievements were important to him, his greatest passion was for his boys Tayte and Jonathan. After his retirement, he built a home up in Sugar Camp with partner Julie Allen and resided there until his death. John is survived by his loving partner Julie, son Tayte of Chicago, sister Jennifer (Tom) Youtsos of Bonita Springs, FL, nieces Alison (Ken) Carlson of Woodbury, MN, Jackie Youtsos, MD (Eric Bradshaw), Pittsburg, KS, and Katie Youtsos, Minneapolis, MN. He also is survived by his two Scottish Terriers Violet and Lily.

John was predeceased by his parents and son, Jonathan.

John’s family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ahuja, the Aspirus Cancer center and all of the Aspirus ICU staff for their caring and kindness while he was in their care.

Visitation will be held at Brainard Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 522 Adams Street in Wausau, from 4: 00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a service of reflection and sharing of memories to follow. A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at his home in June.

Krista M. Salas - March 11, 1963 - April 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Krista Marie (Skola) Salas was welcomed into heaven on April 22, 2022 after a brave five-year battle with cancer. She died on Earth Day surrounded by her family, her dogs at her side. She was 59.

Born on March 11, 1963 to Frank Skola and Patricia (Skola) Metter, Krista had an adventurous spirit and was known for her generosity and tenaciousness. She graduated from Wausau East High School before attending Lawrence University in Appleton, where she developed a love of science and a strong appreciation for the Earth. At Lawrence, she was part of the writing, fencing and international clubs and completed extensive course studies in English Literature before graduating in 1985 with a B.A. in Geological Studies. One of the greatest experiences in her life was a trip to the Yukon Territory as part of a Geology Field Camp expedition, where she made lifelong friends and deepened her appreciation for the natural world.

In 1989 Krista packed up her things and moved solo across the country to California’s Bay Area, where she embarked on a long and prosperous career in sales, working for companies such as Ashtech, Magellan and TomTom Inc. In January 2009, she realized a lifelong dream and founded Earth Insight, Inc., a nonprofit organization that funds and supports earth science research with a specific focus on climate change. Her passion for saving the Earth was matched only by her love of animals and strong desire to make the world a better place. Krista was a proud hospice volunteer, providing pet therapy for patients with her beloved dogs, Luke and Rue, and supported a wide range of charitable organizations throughout her life. She was a talented violinist, an avid reader with a strong appreciation for poetry, a voracious lover of strong coffee and good wine, a fabulous cook and a strong proponent of living life to its fullest. She loved to travel, enjoyed a wide range of music, was an avid runner and a voracious Golden State Warriors fan, and she sure  knew how to throw a party. She understood the value of true friendships and family ties and was a fierce advocate for the people she loved. In 2013, Krista moved back to Wausau to own and operate The Rosenberry Inn before her cancer diagnosis.

In 1992, Krista married John Salas at a mountaintop vineyard near San Jose, California. Though the couple separated in 2013, they remained close friends and confidantes. The entire family is grateful to John for his unwavering support of Krista, especially in her final days.

Krista was preceded in death by her beloved father, Frank, as well as her stepfather, William Metter. In addition to her husband Krista is survived by her mother, Patricia; her aunt, Ann Adams; her brother David Skola (Lori Napstad); her sisters, Wendy Skola (David Ermeling) and Shereen (Darren) Siewert; her beloved nephews and nieces: Rowan Flynn, Devon Flynn (Linda Nguyen), Aidyn Dorzak and Megan Hibbard (Dan Castro); her dogs, Pretzel and Cassie; along with countless additional relatives, friends and coworkers.

A celebration of Krista’s life will be held Sunday, May 1 at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a brief memorial service at 3. Friends and family members are invited to join us from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Palms Supper Club, 5912 Bus. Hwy. 51  in Weston to raise a glass, share stories and memories, and celebrate Krista’s life.

Please wear a green item of clothing to the memorial, if you choose, as it was Krista’s favorite color and signifies her love of nature and the Earth.

Jean "Jeannie" C. Burgoyne - April 30, 1943 - April 05, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jean C. Burgoyne, 78, of Wausau, Wisconsin, went to her heavenly home on April 5th, 2022, with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Emil & Leona Beckman on April 30, 1943, in Wausau, WI and was 10 minutes older than her twin sister, Joan Walters. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Karl Beckman. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dale Burgoyne, who has been by her side the last 3 years as she battled Parkinson’s; her two children, Pam Williams (Jason) and Kevin Burgoyne (Darcie); her sisters, Joan Walters and Sharon Will; her brothers, Danny Beckman (Dawn) and Rick Beckman (Mary Ellen); and several nieces and nephews. She was also a beloved Grandma to her five grandchildren: Zachary Williams, Emily Williams, Caleb Williams, Sadie Burgoyne, Samantha Burgoyne.

Jean loved her family and friends and especially her husband, Dale. Jean and Dale were married on August 16, 1969, in Wausau and honeymooned at Mackinac Island. They spent 52 years loving each other and taking care of their family. Snowmobiling and spending the week at Eagle River every year for the snowmobile races were some of their best memories together.

Jean graduated in 1961 from Wausau East High School. Upon graduation, she worked at HG Phillips Company. Jean then worked as a saleswoman for WSAU and later moved to sales at WSAW Channel 7. She was very outgoing, and she enjoyed talking and building relationships with new people. After Jean and Dale retired, they sold their home in Wausau and moved into a motor home. They spent their years in a motor home doing the things they loved most. They visited grandchildren, went to NASCAR races to watch Dale Earnhardt, played with their beloved Boston Terrier, also named Earnhardt, watched ballgames, enjoyed time at casinos, and toured the country for a number of years until Jean’s health worsened and they returned to their hometown of Wausau.

Jean loved puzzles, reading, any kind of chocolate, watching the 49ers, Brewers, Mississippi State Softball, snowmobiling, sitting in the sunshine, playing slot machines, and listening to music, especially Willie Nelson songs. She was very patriotic and proud of family for serving their country.

Jean left her family with many memories but will be missed tremendously.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Brainard Funeral Home in Wausau on Monday, April 11th from 9-11am with the service to follow starting at 11am.

Her family would like to give special thanks to the hospice nurses (Kayla, Lynn, Susan) and doctors at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau for giving her the love and care she deserved.

Nick E. Smith - February 20, 1944 - April 05, 2022

Obituary Preview: Nick Esher Smith, 78, left this world on April, 5, 2022, in the care of Aspirus Hospice House. Nick was born in Ashland, PA, on February 20, 1944, to Wendell and Regina (Butler) Smith. In 1959, they moved to Waukesha, WI. While attending Carroll University, he met his wife-to-be, Gail Jacobi. They were married for almost 55 years. Nick worked 34 years in several positions at Wausau Insurance, excelling at Directing HMO Development. Nick was a very caring person to many – transporting friends, shopping and making soup for all. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Wausau, serving as a Deacon and Elder numerous terms, and singing in the choir. He was the Christmas angel! Music was a huge part of Nick’s life, sharing many good times with dear friends and family sing-a-longs. When he wasn’t singing and playing his guitar, he was reading or fishing. The first Saturday in May was a religious holiday!

He was a wonderful and loving father to Wendy (Luke) Coenen, Hatley, WI, Stephanie (Michael) Mille, Appleton, WI, and Jennifer (Mark) Nelson, Appleton, WI. He was cherished by each of his wonderful grandchildren, Jacob, Vincent and Kate Coenen, Allison and Michael Mille, Garrett and Natalie Fisher, and Clayton and Cohen, Dylan and Aaron Nelson. Humor was perfected by Nick! A friend once said, “He had an inappropriate story for every occasion!”

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Wendy, and his favorite uncle, Vincent Butler. A celebration of his life will be held, April 18, 2022, at 2:00, at The First Presbyterian Church, 406 Grant Street, Wausau, WI 54403, following a visitation time with family and friends, from 12-2 in the sanctuary.

Daniel S. Nelson - November 10, 1950 - April 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Daniel S. Nelson, age 71, of Wausau died on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Mountain Terrace.

Daniel was born on November 10, 1950, in Wausau to the late Elmer and Shirley (Ostring) Nelson.  He married Sharon St. Clair on August 21, 1971, in Wausau. She passed away on October 20, 1997, and since then Dan always looked forward to their sweet reunion in Heaven.

Danny, that most knew him by, grew up in Wausau. The family did move around during his childhood to different towns in Wisconsin but eventually settled in Wausau. After High School he served in the Army as a medic in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Danny moved back to Wausau. Soon after returning to Wausau, he met the love of his life who happened to live just down the street! He worked as a driver for Wausau Taxi for a few years before he started his 36 year career as a Journeyman Plate Maker at what is now Graphic Packaging. When Dan started it was known as American Can and was later named James River along with Fort James. Danny enjoyed building model fire trucks, woodworking, history and reading. After his retirement he was a proud member of the Red Apple Social Club and a frequent patron of Angelo's. We were often told by many that Danny was "quite the character". He had a goofy sense of humor and was loved by his many friends that he has made over the years. He liked to give people a hard time and as long as you could dish it back - you were in!

Daniel is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Allan) Manning of Weston and Kimberly (Seth) Devine of Edgar; grandchildren Zachery (Fiance Krystal) Manning and Lilyan Manning and Kennedi and Avery Devine; sisters Sherry Wunsch and Debbie (Mike) Krueger, sister-in-law Linda (Ralph) Hankermeyer; brother-in-law Duane (Eileen) St. Clair; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his wife Sharon, siblings Tommy and Jancy, brother-in-law Roger Wunsch and mother-in-law Hazel St. Clair.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau.  The service will also be available via livestream on his obituary page at www.brainardfuneral.com Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM til 7:00 PM on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Brainard Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Audrey Mae Viergutz - January 04, 1929 - March 31, 2022

Obituary Preview: Audrey Viergutz, 93, died on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau.

Audrey was born January 4, 1929, in Edgar, the daughter of Walter and Amy (Schmidt) Kratwell.  She married Dale Viergutz on April 28, 1951, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar.  He preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.  She attended Edgar High School and graduated from Edgar High in the class of 1947.  She was active with the Wausau Story Drum & Bugle Corps as a chaperon from 1971 through 1978 traveling over most of the mid-west and southern United States.  She was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau.  She enjoyed bowling and going to state and national senior tournaments with many of her friends.  Besides dancing and bowling, she enjoyed watching the packers and Nascar on TV.  She was a member of the VFW 388 Ladies Auxiliary.  She was employed at SS Kresge on 3rd Street and Marathon Battery for several years and at Wilson-Hurd in Wausau for 25 years retiring in 1991.

Survivors include one son Jeffery (Late: Cindy) Viergutz, Marshfield, WI; one granddaughter, Heather Braden, Hartford, WI; and one grandson, Casey Cavanaugh, Lathrop, CA; five great-grandchildren; one niece Sandra Wagner; and Sister-in-law, Carolyn Viergutz.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, Walter and Amy Kratwell; and a brother Merville Kratwell.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan Street, Wausau. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Brainard Funeral Home's Wausau Chapel is assisting the family.

Obituary Preview: Wilma J. Hamilton, age 80, of Wausau died on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Pride TLC with her family by her side after a short battle with Leukemia.

Wilma was born on March 4, 1942 in Hastings, Michigan to the late Basil and Fern (Moore) Tobias.  She graduated from Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music with a degree in Music.  It was here that she met Duane Hamilton.  The two were united in marriage on October 3, 1964 at Cedar Creek Bible Church in Delton, Michigan.  They would later move to Wausau where Wilma was employed at the Family Resource Center.  Wilma enjoyed gardening, camping and genealogy.

Wilma is survived by her husband of 57 years, Duane Hamilton; children Dan (Carrie) Hamilton and Dawn (Kurt) Engebrecht; grandchildren Brendan, Jordyn and Kyra Hamilton and Ian (Brenda) Engebrecht, Felicia Engebrecht and Josiah Engebrecht; great grandson Peter James Engebrecht; siblings Eugene (Linda) Tobias and Kendall (Joanne) Tobias; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau.  The Rev. Jeanine A. Helling - March 18, 1955 - March 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jeanine Ann Helling, 67, passed away on Tuesday, March 22nd at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.

Jeanie was born in Wausau on March 18th, 1955 to Ervin H. and Geneva M. (Mortenson) Lambrecht, the third of four children. She graduated from Newman Catholic High School in 1973. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Radant Insurance Agency for several years.

Jeanie met her future husband, Thomas Helling, at a friend’s New Year’s Eve party in Wausau and they married on October 18th, 1980. After the birth of their first child, Jeanie left work to become a stay-at-home mom, which she loved. After her children were older, she shared her warmth and love by babysitting for other children at her home for many years.

Born with a heart defect, Jeanie underwent a pioneering surgery at the University of Minnesota when she was six years old. A second heart surgery followed in 1986 after the birth of her daughter. Despite life-long health issues related to her heart, she was not one to complain and was a quiet model of strength.

Jeanie inherited a lifelong love of antiques from her mother. She loved to read, enjoyed baking and crafts, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She took great pleasure in decorating the house for each holiday of the year. She shared the family sweet tooth and enjoyed reminiscing about favorite childhood candies with her siblings.

Jeanie was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She showed her love for her family and others every day with her kindness, patience, and welcoming nature. She will be missed immensely.

Jeanie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Tom Helling, son Matthew (Catherine) Helling, all of Wausau, and daughter Allison (Patrick) Shabino, and grandchildren Evelyn and Henry Shabino, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is further survived by her sister Mary Kay (David) Odegard, Minocqua, brothers Wayne (Barbara) Lambrecht, Wausau, and John (Michelle) Lambrecht, Schofield, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Geneva Lambrecht.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31st, 2022 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wausau, from 9 to 11 a.m., with a funeral mass to follow. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wausau, followed by a luncheon at the church. Brainard Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Obituary Preview: With great sadness, the family of Mark Belec report his passing on March 20, 2022, after a short battle with lung cancer. He loved hunting, fishing, grilling a good steak, and all things technology oriented. Nothing made Mark happier than when he was surrounded by the people he loved, to share good food, movies, and lots of laughter. He was a gentle man, loyal to the people he loved, who had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him best.

Mark leaves behind one son, Justin Belec of Madison; one daughter, Sarah Belec of Wausau; their mother, Kathy Stone of Wausau; and an older brother, Ron Belec of Oswego, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bernice (Povilaitis) Belec and Donald Belec of Gurnee, Illinois; his best friend, Kevin Foster of Round Lake, Illinois; and his beloved hound, Zekey.

Obituary Preview: Arvilla (Gresens) Berens, age 92, was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at home with her family by her side.

Arvilla was born on January 14, 1930 in Marathon to the late Robert and Elenore (Plautz) Gresens.

On October 7, 1950 on her parents 39th wedding anniversary, she married the love of her life, James Berens at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.  He preceded her in death on August 22, 2013.

Arvilla is survived by her sons Mike (Julie Wichman) Berens of Rib Mountain and Steve (Connie) Berens of Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law, Mary Berens; grandchildren Cody, Drew, Elizabeth “Libby” Berens all of Wausau, Ashley (John) Arnette of Georgia, and Shana (Brent) Radant Duffy and great grandchildren Addicyn and Jax, Zachary, Katelyn and Emily and Trianna Roze.

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son Andy Berens, daughter-in-law Diane Berens, and brothers Harry (Helen) Gresens, Walter (Violet) Gresens, Alfred (Irma) Gresens, and Wilmer (Georgette) Gresens and infant brother Alvin Gresens.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 1, 2022 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Dr., Wausau.  The Rev. Eric Hauan will officiate.  Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church on Friday.  Burial will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Marathon City.

Kenneth D. Voigt - February 07, 1941 - March 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Kenneth D. Voigt, 81, of Wausau, passed on while under the care of Hospice House on March 18, 2022, with his beloved daughter Jamie by his side.

Ken was born February 7, 1941, in Wausau to the late Meldon and Harriet (Hetzel) Voigt. He was their only child. He proudly served his country in the National Guard. Once honorably discharged, he married Sally Opichka Voigt on September 23, 1967. Together they welcomed their only daughter, Jamie, on April 28, 1979. Kenny worked at Wilson-Hurd Company and Kraft Foods. Later, he owned his own excavating business and then his own heating and duct cleaning business. He loved his German Shepherd dogs and loved inventing and building. He is dearly loved forever and always, and was a wonderful man. He was a very hard worker; and was a devoted family man.

Kenny is survived by his daughter Jamie Voigt; cousin Barbara Kurtzweil and her family; niece Ann Osborne, who often helped around the house; his canine companion Shawncy; and many in-laws, cousins, friends and neighbors. Ken is preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

A funeral will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 11:30 am at Restlawn Memorial Park Chapel, 235962 N Troy Street, Wausau. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am and burial will follow the service.

Roger L. Scheffler - December 30, 1941 - March 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Roger Lee Scheffler, 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Aspirus Hospital of Wausau. Roger was born of the late Herman Scheffler, Sr. and the late Ella (Krueger) Scheffler on December 30, 1941 in the Township of Texas, rural Wausau, WI and was the youngest of four brothers and six sisters. He graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1960. Soon after high school, Roger met his soulmate, Doris (Breunig), where they worked together at Marathon Battery (Wausau) before he joined the military.

Roger was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 23 and he attended basic training in Missouri. After basic training, he was stationed for one year in California and a second year in Augusta, GA where he served as a chaplain’s assistant and was assigned clerical work, including handling and addressing letters, some of which were labelled for Mike Wallace of CBS news to cover events during the Vietnam War. Roger’s interest in playing organ hymns during his military assignment was crucial to his own survival along with many others.

After fulfilling his military service, Roger returned to Wausau to continue his upcoming lifelong relationship with Doris and were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Wausau) on October 8th, 1966.

Roger and Doris both became employed at General Telephone (GTE) where he started as a travelling payphone collector for several years throughout northern Wisconsin and later became a construction detailer in the GTE engineering department. Roger and Doris retired together in 1995. He then continued his engineering career as a subcontractor for Verizon Communications for an additional two years before focusing on playing the church organ weekly for almost three decades at Trinity Lutheran church (rural Township of Wausau) until one year prior to his death. He was also an organist at a variety of area churches, including St. Michael’s parish (Wausau) until the early 1990’s and St. Peters Lutheran Church (rural Township of Wausau). He recorded his own album of organ hymns in 2004 at the Lawrence University Memorial Chapel in Appleton, WI. Roger was a church organist for 64 years starting when he was just sixteen years old.

Roger enjoyed many activities during his and Doris’ retirement. They travelled the state often and spent their time at Lambeau Field, several area casinos, the Amish stores, rummage sales, and state tourist attractions. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Milwaukee Bucks, the History Channel, numerous classic movies, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. Roger and Doris spent many Friday fish fries together with beloved family and close friends. In 2006 and 2010 they travelled to Germany to be introduced to Doris’ newly found relatives and also hosted them back here in their home during this time. Roger would often spend time outdoors working in the yard, cutting firewood, vegetable and flower gardening, gathering blackberries, making maple syrup, fishing, whitetail deer hunting, and collecting agates and other rocks with his children and Doris along the railroad tracks. He loved his family pets over the years and also raised chickens through the 1970’s. Roger had a natural talent of being surrounded by song birds and various wildlife while sitting on the back patio at home. He admired time spent with his family in nature while at the mobile home at The Fish Trap Resort on Lake Nokomis and while at the family woods in the Township of Texas

north of Wausau. He also enjoyed baking and cooking at home serving traditional recipes which his mother taught him as a child.

Roger is survived by his wife, Doris, three sons, Matthew (Betty) Scheffler, Mark Scheffler (Karen Bruno) and Christian Scheffler. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Scheffler, Nicole Scheffler, Will Scheffler, 1 great grandson, Cooper, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters including Ferdinand, Leona, Norman, Viola, Gertrude, Evangeline, Dorothy, Herman Jr., Kenneth, and Shirley and their respective spouses.

A sincere appreciation is also extended to his recent caregivers at Aspirus Hospital and Marshfield Clinic, and to his church members and staff at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church (rural Township of Wausau) with visitation at 9:30am up until the Rite of Christian Burial at 11am featuring Roger’s recorded organ music.

Obituary Preview: Edward Lee Stubbe passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022.

He was born in Wausau on November 27, 1928, to Edward and Ella (Reismann) Stubbe.  On May 14, 1955, he married Marge Mroczenski of Edgar at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wausau.

Edward graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in 1943, and Wausau High School in 1947.  He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was a proud recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Medal.  He retired from his employment at the Wausau Post Office after 30 years.

He enjoyed a game of golf with his post office buddies and the golfing vacations he took with his wife.  He was an avid Brewers, Packers, and Badgers fan.  There was always a puzzle on the table somewhere, just because.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Burns Post #388 and was a part of their honor guard.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marge; one son, Jeff (Becky) Stubbe of Wausau; two daughters, Jill Sickler (Ricky Matz) of Ringle, and Jane Sharma of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Brad, Michael, Ashley, Jeremy and Nicholas; and three great-grandchildren, Jennings, Emma and Leonardo.

Edward was preceded in death by two sons, Alan J. and John H.A., his parents, siblings, Lucille Streck, Donald, Clayton, and Floyd Stubbe and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Anthony.

Graveside services will be held at a future date at Pine Grove Cemetery where military honors will be conducted, with a celebration of his life to follow the ceremony.  Brainard Funeral Home – Wausau Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Obituary Preview: Henrietta Marie Woodkey passed away on March 9, 2022, after a short battle from cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will be forever grateful for the person she was. She was born into this world on September 22, 1947, as the daughter of August and Olive Mundt.

Henrietta was a fiercely independent, strong-willed, and loving woman who lived life on her own terms. These qualities allowed her to become the woman that everyone loved and cherished. People often underestimated the inner strength that she possessed due to her being petite, however they would come to realize that she stood strong against the challenges of everyday life.

She truly was the greatest sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Her passing will be felt for generations to come. She was extremely loyal to everyone she loved and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. And above all, Henrietta had “one heck of a heart” and would put everyone else first before herself.

She is preceded in death by her sister Donna Muller, brother Charles Mundt and her lovely granddaughter Alicia May St. John who passed away on April 14, 2018, after a battle with cancer at the age of 27.

She is survived by her wonderful and loving sister Joann (Dale) Thompson, son Danny Thompson, daughters Pam (James) Schultz and Jennifer (Nick) Klimpke. She is further survived by her son Kevin (Jessica) St. John and their daughter Jocelyn; son Larry (Dee) St. John and his children Alicia, Sara, and Lawrence; daughter Renee (Leroy) Olson and her children Crystal Olerich, Brandi (Patrick IV) Stevens. And of course, there are the 11 great grandchildren Henrietta loved so much: Audrina, Patrick V, Jordan, Corban, Ayanna, Kavarei, Cyrain, Lamaya, Kyaire, Devon, and Ember.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Brainard Funeral Home, located at 522 Adams Street in Wausau. She enjoyed reading a good book and baking goodies in the kitchen. She liked to camp with her husband and loved to go anywhere warm. More than anything, she liked to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, William Singstock; three daughters, Brenda Singstock, Rhonda Singstock and Melinda (Joshua) Thompson; and three grandchildren, Alexander Singstock, Valerie Thompson, and Brooke Thompson. She is further survived by her siblings, Joan Petrykowski, Harry Untiedt, Jr., Karen (Barry) D’Orazio, Geraldine (Paul) Hein, and Beverly Untiedt; sisters-in-law, Olga Untiedt and Lee Untiedt; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Randy grew up in Wausau, and graduated from Wausau West High School in 1973, during this time he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  He attended UW Stout in Menomonie and earned a Bachelors Degree in Hotel, Motel Restaurant Management.  After an extensive career in restaurants including manager and executive chef at the Northernaire Resort in Three Lakes, WI and Tuscumbia Country Club & 680 North in Green Lake, WI, he later completed an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering/Structural Management from Moraine Park Technical College in 1995 and obtained his certification in land surveying.  He went on to work for Saylor Land Surveying and was the Director of Field Operations for the City of Duluth.

Randy was an avid Badger, Brewer and Packer fan, and enjoyed watching his teams compete throughout the years.  He was passionate about hunting and fishing and looked forward to the annual deer hunt with family and friends at the Mathwick Hunting 80 near Willard.  Randy was rarely seen without his canine companion, Maggie.

Randy is survived by his sister Kay (Jamie) Beck, Devils Lake, ND; niece Madison; nephews Christian, Matthew and Cameron.  Special friends Rick and Marcia Zeigler and Todd Shirley.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey (2017) and Ethel (1982), brothers Robert (2005) and Ronald (1991).

Jan’s favorite pastimes were, shooting pool in leagues, going fishing, sewing, playing cribbage with her friend Sylvia, quilting, and baking large chocolate chip cookies for her children’s birthday.

Jan is survived by her children; Kathi Reamer, Brian (Laura) Reamer, Robert Reamer, and Richard Reamer, her grandchildren; Nicole (Kris), Thomas (Anissa), Travis (Miranda), Robert, Chelsea (Justin), Taneekah (Brad & Mindy), James, Ryan (Alyssa), Logan (Amanda), and Cassidy, her great-grandchildren; Aubrey, Kinsley, Jayson, Jaxon, Clara, Charlotte, Emma, Amara, Savannah, Brinley, Airyabella, Allyazzah,   her siblings; Richard (Jan), Rani, Bruce, and Marcia (Jerry).

Some of Dorothy’s favorite hobbies were golfing, fishing, gardening, collecting knick-knacks, and birdhouses. She was a caring mother, wife, and friend. She loved her family and they were her whole world. When Dorothy and William were not home, they would be traveling south in their RV or north to Alaska.  Dorothy is survived by her children, Bruce (Connie) Werba, Jim (Sara) Werba, and Nancy (John) Hrebik,; her grandchildren Denise (Mark), William (Alex), Bruce Jr., Jaron, Katie, Josh (Brittney), Travis, Tom (Angie), Jenny, John (Mari), and Joel (Dana); 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, her siblings, and her granddaughter Gwendolyn Flores Hoffman.  A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Restlawn Memorial Park – Chapel, 235962 N Troy Street, Wausau. JoAnn was born September 28, 1946, in Stambaugh, Michigan to the late Earl and Shirley (Abrams) Maki. Prior to retirement, JoAnn was owner and bookkeeper of K&S Fuel Injection, Inc. She enjoyed many things, but especially loved a good game of cribbage and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She especially liked the word jumble in the newspaper and commented often how much she missed doing the jumble and reading books to her friend Jayne over the phone prior to Jayne’s passing. In her younger years, she could be found riding and caring for her horses, playing volleyball, and attending the Hodag with the crew from Antigo. In her later years, she could be found in her yard mowing the lawn, tending to her plants and flowers, piling wood, or working on the family trees. Her love of knitting and crocheting allowed her to make mittens, hats, scarfs, socks, afghans, and washcloths for anyone who needed them.

JoAnn is survived by her significant other Eric Arndt; children Terri (fiancé Tom Brandt) Kosky, Michael Kosky, and Jason Maki; grandchildren Matthew Zoromski, Shawn (Jerica) Kosky, Taylor Kosky (girlfriend Mandy Buehler), and Carter Maki; great-grandchildren Emmalyn Kosky and Raelyne Kosky; siblings G. Maki, Sharon (Doug) Brown, and James Maki; special friend Lorri Zoromski; many nieces and nephews, with special mention of Cara Zoromski and Christy Gant; nephews Brian Kovacik and Scott Kovacik. Also survived by sisters-in-law Lynette Kosky, Diane Kosky, Cindy Kosky, and their children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Earl Maki, Jr.; niece Joette Kovacik; and nephew Bruce Kovacik.

Kim Nelson - May 22, 1959 - February 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Kim Patricia Nelson, 62, of Rib Mountain, passed away on February 18, 2022, with her husband and daughter by her side. Kim was born May 22, 1959, in Wausau to Jeanette Rohloff and Pat Bresnahan.

Following her high school graduation, Kim began working at Wausau Insurance Companies.   She took a brief break from the insurance business to pursue her dream of being in the service industry, working at Tavern on the Square.   Kim ultimately returned to Wausau Insurance Companies/Liberty Mutual, continuing her insurance education and holding various positions of increasing responsibility until her retirement in 2018 after 35 years of service.

Kim met Patrick Nelson in February 2000.    They were married on March 6, 2003.

Kim loved being a mother and a grandmother, spending treasured time with her daughter Jenny, and her grandchildren, Reese and Grey.

Kim was adventurous and was not content unless she had a vacation planned.   She and her husband loved taking their annual trips to Jamaica and visiting historical sites throughout the United States.

When Kim wasn’t traveling with her husband, she enjoyed having lunch with her mother and taking casino trips with her girlfriends.    Her girlfriends converted her to a county music fan and she enjoyed several trips with them to Nashville for the country music festival.

Kim loved watching the Green Bay Packers and entertaining with family and friends.   She enjoyed cooking, baking, doing diamond paintings and puzzles.

Kim was a great friend to many and a best friend to her husband Patrick.   She was fun loving, enjoyed life, and will be sadly missed by everyone who had the privilege of having her in theirs. Kim is survived by her mother Jeanette Bresnahan, her loving husband Patrick, daughter Jenny (Mike) Trzebiatowski, two precious grandchildren, Reese Harper and Grey Michael, siblings Pat (Terri) Bresnahan, Jill (Roger) Reisner, John Bresnahan, brother and sister in laws, Steve (Julie) Nelson, Steph (Dan) Wage, Paul (Amy) Nelson, Jay (Mindy) Nelson, her mother-in-law, Jeanette (Cleo) Woodward, and all of her loving nieces and nephews

Carl E. Hertting - October 23, 1926 - February 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Carl Edwin Hertting, age 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 13th.  Carl was the son of the late Hugo and Alta Hertting, Milwaukee, WI.  Carl was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy extends far beyond the many titles he held to those around him. He was a World War II veteran, a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Carl was a long time employee at Wausau Insurance as an underwriter (CPCU) retiring as an Assistant Vice President. Carl served on national boards for Workmen’s Compensation Insurance and worked in Chicago, Indianapolis and Wausau.  Carl was a member of Golden Kiwanis, as well as a SCORE volunteer for many years.  He also was a member of the Woodson YMCA for over 50 years; swimming miles in their pools.

Carl was endlessly giving to those around him, whether that be knowledgeable advice, financial assistance, or a corny joke that couldn’t resist a smile. He married Sarah Louise (Sally) Sell in 1951, recently celebrating 70 years of marriage.  Together they had six children: Kathy (Daniel) Ohrmundt, Susan (Jon) Shilling, Laurie (Clyde) Joyce, Michael Hertting, Karen (Greg) Harter, and Scott (Robin) Hertting.

Carl was grandfather to 13:  Kathy and Dan’s Children, Amy (Joshua) Hutchinson, and Katie (Jeremiah) Boughton.  Susan and Jon’s  Children: Casey (Dan Lyman) Shilling, Matthew (Laura) Shilling, and Allison (Jonny) Grenier.  Laurie and Clyde’s children:   Spencer (Abigail) Joyce and Andrew (Elise) Joyce.  Karen and Greg’s Children: Adam and Cora Harter.  Scott and Robin’s children: Greysen Hertting, Hazel (Evan Benner) Hertting, Iris Hertting and Jude Hertting. Carl has 8 great grandchildren. Family was everything to Carl. He delighted in the successes of his children and grandchildren. Carl is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
