Felicia Ann Martinez Alegria - October 01, 1977 - May 25, 2023

Departed: 05/25/2023 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: It’s with a heavy heart that we convey the unexpected passing of Felicia Ann Martinez-Alegria on
May 25, 2023. Felicia was born on October 1, 1977, in Denver, CO. Daughter of Felix Martinez and Vivian Riojas. Felicia was the second oldest and beloved sister of Joe & Victor.
Felicia’s life would seem too short too many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left in our hearts exceed the quality of time that she stayed here.
Felicia was married to Samuel Alegria, they met in 2001 and later wed in 2007. They shared four beautiful children whom she loved so dearly. Her oldest twins Terrance and Jacob and then Odelia and the youngest Logen. From her children came their grandchildren Ezperanza, Jeremiah, and Mateo.
Felicia had an amazing sense of humor and a contagious laugh! She made her family laugh with the shocking things she would say or her silly responses. She may have appeared shy and quiet at times but most of the time her sense of humor shined bright. Felicia’s personality was crazy, and her wit was razor sharp. She was a loving human being, she kept things “real” with no room for phoniness. Felicia loved to cook, and her specialty was cooking authentic Mexican food. Sam shared her cooking was “the sh*t”! She was a clean freak and Clorox was her friend, therefore her apartment was always spic-and-span, and she didn’t mess around. She also developed a passion to draw and was quite talented. She created so many beautiful drawings for herself, children, grandchildren, and Sam.
Felicia enjoyed the simple life. Felicia and Sam were never into materialistic things. They kept things straightforward and enjoyed and cherished the good times they had together. Loving and spending time with the children/grandchildren, going to the mountains and fishing, laughing and talking about random things, enjoying their surroundings whether driving around running errands, visiting family, cooking, lounging in front of the tv, walking around the park with the grandchildren, or just lying there in silence embraced in each other’s arms.
Felicia’s husband, children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Felicia’s ‘keep it real’ spirit, love of family and the zest for the simple life will live on through them. Felicia is survived by her husband, Samuel R. Alegria; sons Terrance Goetz, Jacob Goetz, and Logen Goetz; father Felix Martinez; brothers Joseph (Rhonda) Coronado, Victor Martinez; mother-in-law Carol Lee Ortega; sister-in-law Christine (Billy) Martinez, sister-in-law Jackie (Henry) Armijo, brother-in-law Ted (Wanda) Alegria, sisters-in-law Regina Alegria and Stephanie Alegria; three grandchildren
Ezperanza Goetz, Jeremiah Goetz, and Mateo Goetz; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Felicia is preceded in death by her daughter; Odelia Marie Goetz; mother Vivian Odelia Riojas; grandmothers Mary Hayes and Elva Martinez; grandfathers Felix Riojas and Felix Martinez.
Felicia will be greatly missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by the unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.

Lloyd Powell - December 07, 1932 - December 06, 2021

Departed: 12/06/2021 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: Born December 7th 1932 to Arthur E and Harriett Powell in Pueblo Colorado. Lloyd was raised in Pueblo and graduated from Centennial High School in 1951 He met the love of his life, Vivian Loraine Cox in 1958 while square dancing. They married each other on February 14th 1960 and spent 61 years together. He loved to dance and often reminisced about his days in high school going to various dances. Even as his body became weak and it became hard for him to walk or stand he would not miss an opportunity to dance with his wife or his grandchildren. Lloyd always put his family first, doing all he could to try and provide the best life for his wife and children. He was a "pitbull" of a man, small in stature but tough as they came. He was always the first to defend his children or those in need and while it was tough at times to find the softer side, if you found it, he was as tender and loving as they came. Lloyd was a fierce patriot, in High School he was part of the Army ROTC and following High School attempted to serve our great country. Due to back problems which plagued him most of his life he was deemed medically unfit to join. On December 6th 2021 God called him home to be with him. At the time of his passing he was surrounded with his family, yet only his daughter Cindy and son Tim were allowed to be with him in person. Lloyd was preceded in death by his Father Arthur E Powell, his Mother Harriett (NeeNee) Powell, his sister Leonna Roark and his Nephew Michael Vidmar. Lloyd is survived by his wife Vivian, children Cindy Wright (John Wright), Vicki Maggs (Ricky Maggs) and Tim Powell. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Katie Wright, Eric Wright (spouse Karina and son Gabriel), Emily Wright, Jesse Wright (spouse Haylee and daughter Kinsley) Amanda Wright, Steffany Kaudy (spouse Adam), Mark Maggs, David Maggs (spouse Brittany), Jason Powell Olmsted, Madelyn Edwards, Hannah Powell and Dominic Powell. While his family and all who knew him grieve that he is no longer with us we all rejoice for him that he has received his eternal reward, he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his body is whole and renewed and he is watching over us as we wait to join him. Memorial Services have not been scheduled at this time but will be held in Littleton CO in January of 2022

Linda Langsted - November 20, 1951 - August 15, 2021

Departed: 08/15/2021 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: Please join us in remembering the remarkable life of our most beloved Linda Langsted, who passed away surrounded by her family on August 15, 2021. From her long career as a Diabetes Nurse Educator to her constant role as an involved and caring mother, Linda's compassion and natural role as a caretaker made the lives of everyone around her better. She loved helping people, which was at the core of everything she did. Linda met her husband, high school sweetheart Jim Langsted, in Bellevue, Washington. They lived a life of adventure, from joining ski patrol together as teenagers, to traveling around the world, to packing up and moving out to the mountains of Colorado to build a home and life as a married couple. 45 wonderful years of marriage and a family of well-loved kids and cats later, she taught us so much about loving and supporting unconditionally. She also taught us the value of joy and silliness in daily life, and we dearly loved the spontaneous, light-hearted songs and dances she made up to bring light and laughter to the day. Linda was a strong leader, and could always be found at the heart of her family's activities, organizing, problem solving, communicating, planning activities, and boosting people up. She was proud of her family, who were the center of her world, and her humor and deep compassion lifted us and carried us through life's hard times. Her creativity was a blessing in all her pursuits and passions. A skilled seamstress and Costumer, she helped costume hundreds of kids in the arts over the years, teaching them along the way to love their craft and take pride in how they presented themselves. She loved musical theatre, and traveled all over the country to see her kids performing and, of course, helping out with the costumes. The homes of her friends and family are filled with her beautiful handmade quilts, pets around Colorado wear her doggy bandanas, and her favorite cat adoption shelter was able to raise crucial operating funds from her line of handmade "Lavender Cats." Her home, gardens, and sanctuary for wildlife are a haven that echo with her memory and her love forever. The wild turkeys, birds, and other wildlife of Coal Creek Canyon will also miss her dearly. Linda is survived by her husband Jim, son Evan (Meriah) Langsted, daughter Abby Langsted, sisters Celeste (Dan) Lavender and Denise (Brian) Baker, brother Brian (Lynn) Kuske, and cats Lucy, Norah, and Maisie. We will miss her more than words can say, and know that she will be with us in everything we do. Please take a moment to share any fond memories from Linda's amazing life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written announcement of a person’s death, often published in a newspaper or online. It typically includes a brief summary of the person's life, information about the funeral or memorial service, and can include a special message from the family.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a formal way to notify a community of an individual’s passing. They also provide a record of the person's life and death, serving as a historical document for future generations. Additionally, obituaries can help in the grieving process by allowing for public recognition and remembrance of the deceased.

How do you write an obituary?

Writing an obituary involves gathering key information about the deceased, such as their full name, age, date of birth, date of death, and important life events or achievements. Families often include a short biography, family details, funeral service information, and a personal message or anecdote that encapsulates the individual’s character.

Is there a standard length for an obituary?

No, there is no standard length. Obituaries can vary from a few sentences to a full column in a newspaper or more. The length often depends on the space available, the cost (if any), and the amount of information the family wishes to share.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries are typically written by a close family member or friend, sometimes with the assistance of a funeral director or a professional writer. Newspapers may also have staff writers who can help write or edit the obituary.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

An obituary usually includes the full name of the deceased, their age, notable life achievements, information about their career and education, family members, details about the funeral or memorial service, and sometimes a photo. Some also include a request for charitable donations instead of flowers.

Can I write an obituary before a person has died?

Yes, it's possible to write an "advance obituary" for someone who is still living, particularly in the case of elderly or terminally ill individuals. Some people even write their own obituaries as part of end-of-life planning.

What should I avoid including in an obituary?

It is generally advisable to avoid including overly personal or sensitive information that could embarrass the family or the deceased. Additionally, leaving out exact addresses and other personal details helps reduce the risk of burglary or fraud while the family is attending funeral services.

Can obituaries be published online?

Yes, many obituaries are published online on newspaper websites, dedicated obituary platforms, and on social media. Online obituaries have the advantage of reaching a wider audience and can often include multimedia elements, like photo albums and video tributes.

Are obituaries reviewed or edited by someone else?

Yes, when submitted to newspapers or online platforms, obituaries may be reviewed and edited for clarity, length, and adherence to the publication's style. If written by a family member, it's also common for other family members to review it.

Do obituaries have to be published in a newspaper?

No, while newspapers have traditionally been the medium for obituaries, they can also be shared through various online platforms, at the funeral home’s website, or merely circulated among family and friends.

Is there a cost to publish an obituary?

There can be. Many newspapers charge a fee based on the length of the obituary and any additional features like photos. Online platforms may offer different pricing structures, including some free options.

How soon after death should an obituary be published?

The timing can vary, but it is common to publish an obituary as soon as possible after death, particularly if it includes information about the funeral service or memorial which attendees may need to plan to attend.

Can an obituary be updated?

Once an obituary is published in print, it cannot typically be updated. However, online obituaries often allow for updates or additional information to be added at a later time.

What is a death notice and how does it differ from an obituary?

A death notice is a more straightforward announcement of death, often without the life story or detailed information found in an obituary. Death notices are usually shorter and may be provided by a funeral home as a basic service, sometimes for a lesser cost than an obituary.

Should children or infants have an obituary?

Yes, obituaries are written for individuals of any age to acknowledge their life, however brief, and to offer an opportunity for communal mourning. Sensitive details about the child’s death are often omitted out of respect for the family's privacy.

How does one submit an obituary to a newspaper or online service?

Obituaries can be submitted to newspapers through their classified advertising departments, either online or by contacting them directly. Online services typically have a submission form and will offer guidance on how to proceed.

Is it okay to include religious or cultural elements in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to reflect their religious beliefs or cultural traditions in the obituary. This can offer comfort to those who share these beliefs and educate others about the deceased's background and traditions.

What if I don't have all the information for an obituary?

It is acceptable to publish an obituary with limited information. You can include details that you do know, and, if desired, you may be able to update or add to the obituary at a later date, especially if it is published online.

What do I do if I find an error in an obituary?

If an error is found, contact the newspaper or online service where the obituary was published as soon as possible to have the mistake corrected. Prompt action can prevent further distribution of the incorrect information.

Can I add a personal message to the obituary?

Absolutely. Personal messages, such as a poem, a favorite quote, or a brief story about the deceased, are often included to give a more complete picture of the individual and to make the obituary more meaningful for readers and those who knew the person.

Is there support available for writing an obituary?

Yes, many funeral homes offer assistance in drafting obituaries, and some offer templates to help you get started. There are also professional writers and services that can create a customized obituary, although they will usually charge a fee for their services.

How can I ensure the obituary honors the deceased’s life?

To honor the deceased, focus on their positive attributes, major life accomplishments, and the impact they had on their loved ones. Including details about their passions, kindness, and personal stories can also create a touching tribute to their life.
