Charlotte Renee Badger - February 17, 1957 - May 13, 2023

Departed: 05/13/2023 (Denver)
Obituary Preview: Charlotte Renee Badger was the 4th born child to Pearl Lee Edwards and William Louis Edwards, on February 17th, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas. She was blessed to share her childhood and help raise her brother, Keith, and sisters, Nina, Lisa, Monica, and Denise.
Charlotte matriculated through the San Antonio Public school system, graduating from Edison High School in 1975. Charlotte was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church. A woman of faith and love of God, she instilled the same principals to her family.
In the fall of 1975, Charlotte married Royce Earl Badger. To this union, two beautiful daughters, Erica and Janita were born. Charlotte loved her daughters and lived her life for them. She was always uplifting, caring, funny, and she taught them how to love and be loved.  It is because of her example that they are great moms to their own children. It was no secret that Charlotte adored her daughters, but when she was blessed with grandchildren, she expressed an entirely different kind of love to them. Affectionately called “Granny Ball”, she spoiled them rotten. If they asked for it, Charlotte would make sure they had it. She loved each of her grandchildren the way they needed to be loved, even when they would try sneaking out of the house.
Charlotte’s love for children inspired her to become a state licensed childcare provider. She was an incredibly loving and great teacher to the children she cared for over the years. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed interior designing, cooking, shopping, going to brunch, and maintaining her self-care rituals with her best friend, Sharon Nelson.
Charlotte had a kind spirit and loving soul. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren, and she loved her family beyond their faults. She will be missed by everyone blessed to meet her acquaintance. She is preceded in death by her parents; William Louis Edwards, and Pearl Lee Edwards; brothers, Sorney “Junior” Calvert and William Keith Edwards; and sister, Denise Palmer
Charlotte Renee Badger took her Savior by the hand on Saturday May 13th, 2023. Those left behind to carry on her legacy of love and devoted nurture include her husband of 48 years, Royce Badger, her beautiful daughters, Erica Badger and Janita Badger; her grandchildren, Shekirah Marzett,  Marlynn Green, Natalie Tucciarelli, and Austin Tucciarelli; great grandchild, Zahlani Smith; sisters, Pearl Manning, Nina Taylor, Lisa Woods, Monica Edward Hicks; brother, T.C. Calvert; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Apostle Lawrence E. Powell - May 26, 1946 - May 05, 2023

Departed: 05/05/2023 (Denver)
Obituary Preview: The Preachers Story Apostle Lawrence E. Powell To begin with, the very first thing Apostle Lawrence would want made clear:  “If anyone should ever write my life story…for whatever reason there might be…Jesus was there!…through every pain and any glory…JESUS IS THE BEST THING, THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME! Now, Apostle Lawrence, affectionately called by family and some friends, “Larry,” was born to Clayton DeWitt Powell and Mary Alzada Harold in Denver, Colorado on May 26, 1946. His wife, Apostle Sandra, often teased him as she stated “he was one of the 11 people actually born in Colorado!” Lawrence was 4th of 6 children and the middle son out of 3. He matriculated in several elementary schools in the Denver area, before attending Carlos M. Cole Jr. High School and continuing to Manual High School and graduating in 1964. While a Thunderbolt at Manual High, he and his friends Mackey and John Williams—to name a few, spent an inornate amount of time across the street from the school in the park ‘discussing the ways of the world!’
In 1970 he met and married Sue Gadison.  And to this union were raised three children, Sean Ryan, Lavies DuPriest and Sefra Kali.  In 1993 their daughter Sefra presented them with a handsome grandson, Christoffer, who grew up in their home also. They were a very loving and happy family. Sue preceded him in death on May 11, 1999.
As a young man, after graduation from high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Army.  He was trained as a Cook, assigned to the Army Post at Fort Carson, Colorado.  He received numerous commendations for his meritorious service. During his time in Denver, before leaving for military duty, he dated and became engaged to his present wife, none other than Sandra Washington.  When he left for the military, she graduated from high school and accepted a scholarship to Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kansas.  After two years, she transferred and completed her studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  He was honorably discharged from the army, and they called off their engagement and moved forward in their lives keeping in touch through family and meeting up occasionally at Homegoing Celebrations.
After twenty plus years, they would reunite after the transition of Lawrence’s  wife, and after Dr. Sandra had served in the pastorate in Los Angeles for 10 years, then moved to Tulsa, OK to matriculate and complete graduate studies at Oral Roberts University.  She now had three beautiful children and had moved back to Colorado to plant Soul Care Full Gospel Center.
Meantime, Lawrence had become a pastor and planted Genesis Chapel Church here in Colorado.  He had matriculated at Denver Seminary and at Liberty University while he had served at Shorter Community AME Church under the mentoring leadership of Pastor J. Langston Boyd, Jr. Fast Forward…Pastor Lawrence and Dr. Sandra miraculously connected once again after all those years apart living victorious lives and returning with three children each!  Both had two sons and one daughter.  Now Sefra “Rev. Sefra Burrell” had a younger sister, and Patrice “Tricey boo” had a big sister!  Our boys now were brothers!!  Of course, Pastor Powell was a ‘girl dad!’  Nothing he wouldn’t do for his girls!  Although, he also diligently taught all his boys valuable lessons that godly-men must know to please the Lord and receive favor from Him!  He exemplified every day of his life how to be a strong loving caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather!  He felt so privileged and honored to have raised one family, then be blessed by Almighty God to do it again!!
He and Dr. Sandra Powell were married in the year 2000.  Together they became a powerful force in Kingdom Ministry!  They were consecrated to the Apostolic in 2004 by Apostle L.A. Anderson & Old Campground Ministries International, then located in Chicago, Illinois.  They served under the awesome leadership covering of Bishop Harold W. Jones and Full Gospel Family Outreach Ministries of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Under the leadership of Apostles Lawrence and Dr. Sandra Powell, Soul Care Full Gospel Center flourishes in an Apostolic anointing characterized by a rich deposit of God’s wisdom to release apostolic teaching and ministry with demonstration of Kingdom power!  The love and labor Apostle Lawrence showed for Kingdom concerns was unmatched!  He and Dr. Sandra have taught & preached on Gospel Radio weekly for over 20 years.  They’ve sent out a daily Christian devotional Monday through Friday for many years.  This year they would have hosted their 29th International Pow Wow Christian Leadership Conference founded by Dr. Sandra, which has convened in well over 20 States and hosted twice out of the Country.  They were Chancellors and Chief Instructors in the Soul Care Bible Institute & Academy of Ministry—with an ongoing number of ministry-prepared graduates.  They have published numerous Training Manuals, with Apostle Lawrence’s greatest accomplishment being his Commentary on the Book of Revelations.  Their Ministry accomplishments go on and on…culminating with their Apostolic Covering of 4 anointed Ministries under their Umbrella of Churches… To God Be The Glory!
On May 5, 2023, Chief Apostle Lawrence E. Powell departed this life to the embrace of the Lord. Those left to cherish his precious memory and mourn his exodus include his devoted wife of 23 years, Apostle Dr. Sandra Powell; children, Sean (Shantel), Lavies (Dolores), Reverend Sefra (Chris), Stephan, Wil, Sr., Patrice (Derick); grandchildren, Tiana, Mariah, Lavies Jr, Christoffer, Dominic (Stephanie), Joelle, Alexis, Gerald, Zmarea, Caleb, Alianna, Wil Jr,; great grandchildren:  Mia & Anthony… sisters, Carol Carter (Early) and Cheryl Jackson; brother, Clayton DeWitt Powell, Jr. (Ora); sister-in-law, Joyce Stringfield, brother-in-law, Clarence Washington… And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, other extended family, & The Soul Care Full Gospel Center Family & Friends!  REST VICTORIOUSLY ANOINTED GENERAL:  CHIEF APOSTLE LAWRENCE EARL POWELL.

Deacon Ervin D. Stokes - November 14, 1932 - May 04, 2023

Departed: 05/04/2023 (Denver)
Obituary Preview: Life’s journey Deacon Ervin D Stokes
It is written that when life begins it is like an open book with many blank pages; each day that we live our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning. The pages of this book began for Ervin D Stokes
in Florence, North Carolina on November 14, 1932. He was the second child of nine born to the union of Roosevelt and Verdi Stokes. Though we celebrated his birthdate as 1932, he often stated that he was actually born in 1931. Either way, he enjoyed 90+ years of life. Ervin received his formal education from Pamlico
High School in North Carolina.  He dedicated his life to the Lord as a child and remained committed to Christ his entire life. He was mechanically inclined at a very young age. Always repairing, creating and building things, including go karts. He was also blessed with the ability to grow fruits and Vegetables.
Ervin joined the United States Air Force at the age of eighteen. While enlisted in the Air Force, he married Roberta Bryant, this marriage was later dissolved. He later met a lovely lady by the name Lillie Walker Miles and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1977. The couple enjoyed 43 years of marriage until Lillie’s passing in March of 2020. When he was stationed at Lowry, Ervin became the Commander of the food service. He was also the Chairman of the Lowry Air Force Base NCO club.
After retiring from the United States Air Force as a Master Sargent, Ervin went to Mechanic school and became an auto mechanic. This was something he enjoyed immensely. A man of faith, Ervin became deacon of Antioch Church of God and Christ.
Those that knew him best describe him as an avid sports fan. He loved basketball, football, and tennis. He had an even better time when he watched sporting events on TV with family and friends. He often visited the auto shop in which he worked to just hang out with friends as well as long phone calls with his brothers and sisters in North Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Verdi stokes; and sisters, Laverda Stokes and Rosetta Stokes.
He leaves to cherish his memory and will be missed by his brothers and sister, Vaughan Stokes , Erma Bell, Roosevelt Stokes Bradford Stokes, William Stokes and Duey Stokes; children , Ronnie Stokes, Marcus Miles and Monica Miles-Wood; grandchildren, Adrienne Wood, Milan Miles, Antonio Miles, Messiah Miles, Emily Claire Stokes and Carly Ann Stokes; great grandchildren, Adonis, M, Jimerson, and Ace W. Jimmerson, and a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the life of the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also give family and friends an opportunity to pay tribute to their loved one and share memories.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral or memorial service details.

Who writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also offer assistance in writing and publishing obituaries.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs. A good rule of thumb is to keep it concise yet meaningful.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Check the publication's website or contact their customer service department for submission guidelines. Some may accept online submissions, while others require email or phone submissions.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online platforms charge a fee for publishing an obituary. The cost varies depending on the publication, word count, and additional features such as photos or video tributes.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the death, you can opt for a private obituary or create a memorial page on a password-protected website or social media platform.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber. Including humorous stories or personality traits can help celebrate the person's life and make the tribute more relatable.

How do I handle errors or corrections in an already published obituary?

Contact the publication or online platform where the obituary was published and provide correction details. They will work with you to correct the error and republish the revised obituary.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a worthy cause.

What if I want to publish an obituary in multiple languages?

Some publications and online platforms offer translation services or accommodate multilingual submissions. Be sure to check their policies before submitting your obituary.

Can I create an online memorial or tribute page instead of an obituary?

Yes, online memorial pages are becoming increasingly popular as they allow for more flexibility and creativity in celebrating a loved one's life. These pages can remain active for years to come.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the publication or online platform. Some may publish within hours or days, while others may take longer due to editorial review processes.

Can I edit or update an already published obituary?

In some cases, yes. Check with the publication or online platform for their editing policies. Keep in mind that changes may not always be possible once an obituary has been published.

What if I want to publish an obituary for someone who passed away years ago?

You can still publish an obituary even if the person passed away years ago. This can be especially meaningful if you're creating a memorial page or wanting to share their story with others.

Can I include quotes, poems, or songs in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, poems, or song lyrics can add depth and personalization to the tribute.

How do I ensure that my loved one's legacy lives on through their obituary?

Beyond publishing an obituary, consider creating a memorial fund, planting trees, or establishing a scholarship in their name. These gestures can help keep their memory alive for years to come.

What resources are available to help me write an obituary?

You can find templates and guidelines online, consult with funeral homes or mortuaries, or seek guidance from friends and family members who have written obituaries in the past.

Can I republish an existing obituary on social media or other online platforms?

YES! You can share existing obituaries on social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter, or republish them on other websites or blogs with permission from the original publisher.
